CalWORKs payment missing & homeless housing assistance case questions - HELP!

Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my CalWORKs payment. It was supposed to come through today, but there's nothing in my account. This is only my second time getting it, so I'm not sure what's going on. Also, I need to finish up my homeless housing assistance case and find out when that payment will be made for my hotel rooms. Anyone else dealing with delays or have advice on how to handle this?

Ugh, I feel you. CalWORKs can be such a pain sometimes. Have you tried calling their office? It might be worth checking if there's any issue with your case.

I've been trying to call all morning, but the lines are always busy. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. Sometimes you can get through faster that way.

Thanks for the advice! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning.

I had a similar issue last month. Turns out there was a glitch in their system and a bunch of payments were delayed. It got sorted out after a few days, but it was super stressful.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/4RyuKFckT6k

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

0 coins

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

I get it, but for me, it was worth it. Time is money, and I couldn't afford to sit on hold all day.

For the homeless housing assistance, make sure you keep all your receipts for the hotel rooms. They might ask for proof when processing the payment.

Oh, that's good to know! I've been keeping them just in case, but I'll make sure they're all organized. Thanks!

I've been dealing with CalWORKs for years now, and here's what I've learned: • Payments usually come on the same day each month, but holidays can mess things up • Sometimes there are system glitches that cause delays • Keep a record of all your communications with them • If you can't get through on the phone, try emailing or visiting the office in person • For the homeless housing assistance, make sure you've submitted all required documentation • Don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor if you're not getting answers Hang in there, OP. I know it's tough, but you'll get it sorted out!

have you checked your EBT card balance? sometimes they load it there instead of direct deposit

I didn't even think of that! I'll check right now, thanks for the suggestion.

Hey OP, just a heads up - there was a news article yesterday about some CalWORKs payments being delayed due to a system upgrade. Might be why you haven't received yours yet.

0 coins

Oh really? That would explain a lot. Do you have a link to the article by any chance?

Sure thing! Here you go: [link to fictional news article]

Anyone else feel like we're always playing catch-up with these benefits? It's like they expect us to live on air while they sort out their issues 🤦‍♀️

Preach! 🙌 It's a constant struggle.

Fr fr. The system is rigged against us, I swear.

I'm going through something similar right now - my CalWORKs payment didn't show up when it was supposed to either. I called the customer service line this morning and they told me there's been a system-wide delay affecting payments this week. The representative said they're working to get everything processed by Friday, but didn't give me a firm date. For your homeless housing assistance case, I'd recommend calling your caseworker directly if you have their number - they usually have better info about those specific payments than the general line. Hope this helps and we both get our payments sorted out soon! 🤞

Thank you so much for sharing this info! It's such a relief to know I'm not the only one dealing with this right now. I was starting to panic thinking something was wrong with my case. Really appreciate you taking the time to call and find out what's going on - Friday can't come soon enough! 🙏

I work at a local community organization that helps people navigate DPSS services, and I can confirm what others have said about the system delays this week. A few things that might help: 1) You can check your case status online through the DPSS portal - sometimes payments show as "processed" there before they hit your account, 2) For the homeless housing assistance, make sure you've submitted your final documentation to your caseworker - those payments usually take 5-10 business days after everything is complete, and 3) If you're staying in hotels, ask if they participate in the county's direct pay program - that way DPSS can pay them directly instead of reimbursing you. Hang in there, these delays are temporary but I know how stressful they can be when you're depending on the funds.

Drake

This is incredibly helpful information! Thank you for taking the time to explain all of this. I had no idea about the DPSS portal - I'm going to check that right now to see if my payment shows as processed. And the direct pay program for hotels sounds like it could save me a lot of hassle. Do you know if there's a list somewhere of which hotels participate in that program? I really appreciate you sharing your expertise with us!

I've been in a similar situation with CalWORKs payments before, and it's incredibly stressful when you're counting on that money. One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts through the EDD/DPSS system - they'll send you notifications when payments are processed or if there are any issues with your case. Also, if you have a smartphone, the MyBenefits CalWIN app can sometimes show payment status updates faster than calling. For your homeless housing assistance, definitely keep all your hotel receipts organized in a folder or envelope - I learned the hard way that they might ask for them weeks later. The waiting is the worst part, but hang in there. Most of these system delays get resolved within a few days, even though it feels like forever when you need the funds. Sending you positive vibes that everything gets sorted out quickly! 💙
