CalWORKs suspended after worker didn't upload my CF 37 - need help before rent is due!
I'm having a complete nightmare with my CalWORKs benefits right now. My worker told me I needed to submit a CF 37 form to verify my income changes, so I sent everything they asked for through BenefitsCal last month. Just checked my account yesterday and saw my cash aid was SUSPENDED! Called my worker and they said they never received my forms (even though I have the confirmation email!!). Now they're saying it'll take 10 business days to process everything once they "find" my documents. My rent is due next week and I have NO IDEA how I'm supposed to pay it. Has anyone dealt with this before? Can I request emergency assistance or something? I'm seriously about to have a panic attack about getting evicted. 🫠🫠ðŸ«

•Yes! I have screenshots AND the confirmation email from BenefitsCal showing exactly when I uploaded everything. The worker just keeps saying they don't see it in the system. I'm so frustrated I could scream.

I'm sorry you're going through this. There are a few things you can try immediately: 1. Ask to speak with a supervisor - explain that you have proof of submission and need urgent resolution 2. Request expedited processing due to imminent risk of eviction - they can technically process your reinstatement within 3 days if you explain it's an emergency situation 3. Apply for homeless assistance even though you're not homeless yet - CalWORKs has emergency rental assistance for families at risk of homelessness 4. Request a review of your case at the Customer Service Center, not just through your regular worker Make sure to emphasize that this was THEIR error, not yours. Keep all your proof of submission handy when you call.

•Thank you for this! I didn't know about the expedited processing option. Will definitely ask for that tomorrow. Do you know if I request homeless assistance if that would delay my regular benefits getting fixed?

u might wanna try callin ur landlord and explain the situation. some landlords will give u an extension if u show them proof that ur benefits r coming. worth a shot

•I already tried that but my landlord isn't very understanding. He said he's heard "every excuse in the book" and wants the rent on time or he'll start eviction. ðŸ˜

I had the EXACT same issue last month! My worker claimed they never received my SAR7 even though I had confirmation. I ended up wasting HOURS trying to get through to someone who could help. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that connected me directly to a CalWORKs supervisor who resolved it in minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE Seriously saved me from losing my benefits for another month. My worker magically "found" my documents after the supervisor looked into it.

This happens ALL THE TIME and it's absolutely ridiculous that we're the ones who suffer when THEY mess up! I've had my benefits suspended THREE TIMES because of their errors. And then they act like they're doing you a favor by fixing THEIR mistake. The whole system is designed to make us fail, I swear. You need to go IN PERSON to the office. Phone calls don't get you anywhere. Bring ALL your documentation, the confirmation emails, everything. And don't leave until they fix it. That's literally the only way I've ever gotten results. The 10-day waiting period is BS - they can fix it immediately if they want to.

•You're so right about the system feeling designed to make us fail. I'm going to try going in person tomorrow morning. Should I bring my lease agreement too to show them the rent is due?

if ur cash aid was just suspended n not terminated u might still get it reactivatd in time. suspended means they just need verification. terminated is the bad 1. did they say suspended or terminated?

•It definitely says SUSPENDED on my account. The worker said once they process my documents it should be reinstated, but the 10 business days timeline is what's killing me with rent due.

If you absolutely can't get it resolved before rent is due, ask about Emergency Special Needs payments. CalWORKs can sometimes provide one-time emergency payments separate from your regular cash aid. Also, make sure to check your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT). If your CF 37 was reporting income changes, make sure you weren't over your IRT, as that could be why they suspended benefits even though they claim they didn't receive the form. Finally, in the future, I recommend hand-delivering important documents to the office and getting a receipt, or using the BenefitsCal app but also calling to confirm they received it the next day. It's extra work, but saves these nightmares.

•Thank you! I was definitely under my IRT - just reporting some extra hours I got for a couple weeks. I'm going to ask about that Emergency Special Needs payment when I go in tomorrow. Really appreciate the advice!

I remember when this happend to me it was because I accidently uploaded the CF 37 under the wrong category in BenefitsCal (I put it under "verification" instead of "periodic report" or something). Maybe ask them to look under all your uploaded documents not just where it should be? The workers don't always check thoroughly.

•That's a really good point! I always get confused with all those different upload categories. I'll definitely ask them to check all my uploaded documents. Thank you!

u know whats crazy, is that they expect us to have everything perfect but then they lose our stuff all the time and were just supposed to deal with it?? like how is that fair?? and then we gotta wait while our kids are hungry

•EXACTLY!! If we're late with paperwork even by ONE DAY they cut us off immediately. But when they make mistakes we just have to wait and suffer. It's so frustrating.

Update us on what happens! And remember to request a State Hearing if they don't resolve this quickly. You can request a hearing online through the CDSS website. Having a pending hearing sometimes motivates counties to resolve issues faster. Also, make sure to document every conversation - who you spoke with, date/time, and what was said. This will be important if you need to escalate the issue. Take names and ID numbers of everyone you speak with.

•I will definitely update! And thank you for the reminder about documenting everything. I've started keeping notes of all my calls in a notebook, but I didn't think to ask for ID numbers. That's a good tip.
