Submitted SAR7 5 days late - will my CalWORKs get discontinued?

I'm freaking out right now!! I just realized my SAR7 was due on the 14th of this month but I never got any mail reminder about it. Thank god I randomly checked BenefitsCal today or I wouldn't have known at all! I rushed to fill it out and upload it but it's already 5 days late. Has anyone had their CalWORKs discontinued for turning in SAR7 a few days late? Will they cut me off completely or is there some grace period? I have two kids and rent is due next week - I CANNOT lose this Cash Aid right now! Do I need to call my worker or just wait and see what happens? I'm so stressed!

you should be ok as long as you submitted it before the end of the month. they give you til the last day of the month before they actually cut you off. happened to me twice before lol

Omg thank you for replying! So even though it was due on the 14th, they won't actually discontinue until the end of the month? That's a relief. Did you have to do anything special when you were late before, or did your benefits just continue normally?

The SAR7 is technically due by the 5th of your SAR month, but they give you until the 11th to submit it without issues. After that, it goes into what's called 'delayed processing' status. You do have until the last day of the month to submit it to prevent discontinuance, but here's what happens: 1. If submitted between the 12th-19th: Your benefits might be delayed, but usually still processed for the next month 2. If submitted after the 19th: Your benefits will likely be discontinued but can be restored without a new application if submitted before the end of the month Since you submitted on the 19th, you're right at the cutoff point. I'd recommend calling your worker directly to confirm they received it and ask about the status of your case for next month. The fact that you never received a reminder notice could also work in your favor if you need to request a review.

Thank you for breaking it down like this! I didn't even know the official due date was the 5th - I've always just gone by whatever date shows up on my notices. The 14th was what it said on BenefitsCal when I checked. I'll definitely try calling my worker tomorrow to make sure everything's ok.

YOUR FNE OMG DONT WORRY! Thy always tell u its due on one day but u actually have untill the LAST day of the month before they stop ur benefits. The date they give is just when they WANT it by but not when they NEED it by lol. Trust me ive been on calworks for 4 yrs and turned in late SAR7 so many times and never got cut off!!! Just make sure u filled everything out right and signed it!!!!

Thank you so much! That makes me feel a lot better. I filled everything out completely and triple-checked it before submitting. I just hope they don't delay the payment since rent is due soon!

I work for the county (not saying which one lol) and yes, technically you have until the end of the month to submit your SAR7 without getting discontinued. BUT your benefits could still be delayed for next month depending on your county's workload. Some offices are getting through late reports quickly, others have major backlogs. Calling your worker might not help if they're backed up with cases. I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a person faster. It's a service that navigates the phone system for you so you don't waste time on hold. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. Getting confirmation that they received your SAR7 and putting in a request to process it ASAP could make the difference between getting paid on time or dealing with a delay.

Is this service legit?? I've spent HOURS trying to reach someone at my county office and either get disconnected or told to call back later. Does anyone know if this claimyr thing actually works?

Just to clarify some important points here: 1. Yes, you technically have until the end of the month to submit a late SAR7, but submitting after the due date always risks processing delays 2. The 14th you saw was likely your "Must Be Received By" date, which is different from the official submission date of the 5th 3. Even if your benefits continue, you might receive them later than normal if your SAR7 was processed late 4. If you need your benefits on time for rent, I strongly suggest calling your county office ASAP and specifically mention that your housing stability depends on timely benefits The county can request an expedited processing of your report if you explain the urgency. Don't just assume everything will be fine - be proactive!

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I definitely need my benefits on time for rent. I've been trying to call the county office all morning but keep getting the "all representatives are busy" message and then it disconnects me. So frustrating! I might try calling right when they open tomorrow.

Same thing happened to me in November. Turned in SAR7 like 8 days late and my worker called me asking for paystubs I forgot to attach. I freaked out but got everything in by the 22nd and still got my cash aid on time. They just want it earlier to have time to process everything but the actual cutoff is end of month. Your benefits should be fine!

I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when I couldn't reach my CalWORKs worker for WEEKS. It actually worked! Got through in about 15 minutes when I had been trying on my own for days. The worker I spoke with told me they can expedite processing on late SAR7s if you have an urgent need like rent or utilities due. Just make sure to specifically ask for this when you get through.

That's really good to know! I might try it if I can't get through tomorrow. Did you have to pay a lot for the service? It would be worth it to make sure I don't miss rent.

It wasn't expensive compared to the stress of possibly missing rent. They just charge a small fee and then you don't have to deal with all the holding and getting disconnected. The video demo on their site shows exactly how it works. Definitely better than trying 50 times on your own!

One more important thing to check - look at your BenefitsCal account and see if your case status shows "Pending" or "Discontinued". If it says "Pending", that's usually a good sign that they're processing your SAR7. If it says "Discontinued", don't panic yet - call your worker to confirm whether they received your late submission. Sometimes the online system doesn't update immediately after they process a late report.

It currently shows "Pending" so that's a good sign! Thanks for mentioning this - would have freaked out otherwise if I saw it change to Discontinued before talking to someone.

um did anyone notice the original poster said they didn't get ANY mail about the SAR7 being due? that's actually a good reason to appeal if they do try to cut you off. they're required to send you a reminder notice. make sure to mention that when you talk to your worker.

YEA THTS RIGHT they HAVE TO send reminders!!! My neighbor got discontinued once and appealed it cuz she didn't get the notice and they had to reinstate her benefits AND give her back pay!! Save any mail you get from them now as proof!!!

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at the county office! They confirmed they received my SAR7 and said that since I submitted it before the end of the month, my benefits won't be discontinued. The worker did say that my payment might be a couple days late next month because of the late submission, but at least I'm not losing my benefits entirely. She also made a note in my file that I didn't receive the reminder notice in the mail. Thanks everyone for your help and advice - this group is seriously a lifesaver!!
