Will my CalWORKs get terminated if I submit SAR 7 at the end of the month?
I'm freaking out right now. I completely forgot to turn in my SAR 7 form and just realized today it was due earlier this month. It's now the 29th and I'm worried my benefits will get cut off. I filled it out this morning and am dropping it off at the county office today, but I'm terrified it won't get processed in time. How long does it usually take for them to process a SAR 7 once they receive it? Will my Cash Aid get terminated because I'm submitting so late? I have two kids and rent is due next week - I can't afford to miss my CalWORKs payment. Has anyone submitted their SAR 7 super late and still gotten their benefits?

You still have time! CalWORKs has a 'submit month' policy. Even though your SAR 7 was technically due earlier this month, you have until the last day of the month to turn it in before your benefits are affected. Make sure you get a receipt or proof that you submitted it today. Processing usually takes 3-5 business days in my experience, but they shouldn't cut you off if you submit before the month ends. It's called a 'cure period.' Just make sure ALL sections are completed correctly – if anything is missing, they'll return it to you and that could cause delays.

•Thank you so much! That's a huge relief. I triple checked all the boxes and made sure I filled out the income section even though I didn't have any income changes. I'll definitely ask for a receipt when I drop it off. Do you know if I need to call my worker after I submit it or will they just process it automatically?

•This is partly right but partly wrong advice. Yes, you have until the end of the month to submit, but waiting until the last minute is risky. If there are ANY errors or missing info on your SAR 7, they'll send it back to you for corrections. If that happens after the month ends, your benefits WILL be discontinued and you'll have to reapply. Always better to submit early so there's time to fix any issues.

I've worked in this field for years, and here's what you need to know: The SAR 7 is technically due by the 5th of your submit month, but you have until the last day of that month to turn it in without penalty (this is called the "cure period"). However, processing time varies by county - some process within 1-2 days, others might take 5-7 business days. Since you're at the end of the month, I strongly recommend you: 1. Get a date-stamped receipt when you submit it 2. Take a photo/copy of your completed form before submitting 3. Contact your worker directly after submitting If your benefits do get discontinued because of processing delays, you can request them to be restored since you submitted within the cure period. Also, make sure you're submitting to the right place - some counties have special SAR 7 processing units.

•Thank you for the detailed info. I just dropped it off and got a receipt with today's date stamped on it. The lady at the counter said they're processing them pretty quickly right now, but I'll try calling my worker tomorrow just to make sure. I appreciate the peace of mind!

I had the EXACT same issue last year! Totally forgot about my SAR 7 until the last week of the month. I panicked and called my worker about 20 times but couldn't get through. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to reach someone - they got me connected to a real person at the county in like 15 minutes instead of waiting on hold forever. The worker told me I could submit it through BenefitsCal even that late in the month and it would be processed in time. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE if you're interested. Saved me so much stress since I was able to confirm they received it and would process it before the cutoff date.

•I've never heard of that service before. I've been trying to reach my worker for weeks about other questions. I'll check it out if I don't hear anything about my SAR 7 processing by tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

THEY ALWAYS DO THIS TO US!!!! make the forms complicated, give weird deadlines, then cut people off even when we follow their rules! i submitted my SAR7 on time TWICE and they still cut me off saying they "never received it" even tho i had proof!!! had to go without cash aid for almost 3 weeks while they "fixed" their mistake. the whole system is designed to kick people off benefits IMO

•I understand your frustration, but it's important to know your rights in these situations. If you submit your SAR 7 and have proof (receipt with date stamp), you can request a hearing if your benefits are wrongfully discontinued. Also, if you request the hearing within 10 days of receiving the discontinuance notice, you can ask for "aid paid pending" which means your benefits continue until the hearing decision.

•Yes! Everything worked out fine. They processed it within 3 days after I submitted it and my payment came through on time. Just make sure you get a receipt when you turn yours in!

One more important thing no one mentioned: If you've had ANY income changes (even small ones) in the past 6 months that you haven't reported yet, make sure those are ALL included on your SAR 7. If they find out later you didn't report income accurately, you could face an overpayment situation where you have to pay back benefits. Also, remember the Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) - if your income goes above that amount (listed on your last approval letter), you're supposed to report it within 10 days, not wait for the SAR 7.

•I didn't have any income this reporting period, but that's good to know for the future. My last approval letter has my IRT amount on it - I think it's like $2,800 for my family size. I'll definitely report right away if I ever get close to that amount. Thanks for the reminder!
