Late SAR 7 form - Will CalWORKs benefits be delayed or stopped this month?
I'm freaking out right now!! I just checked my mail today and found my SAR 7 form that says it was due YESTERDAY (the 5th). I normally get my Cash Aid deposited on the 9th of each month, which is in 3 days. Does turning in a late SAR 7 mean my benefits will be stopped completely this month? Or will they just be delayed? I really need this money for rent and can't afford to miss a payment. Has anyone dealt with turning in their SAR 7 late? Should I just go directly to the office tomorrow morning with the completed form instead of mailing it? I'm a single mom with 2 kids and this is our only income right now until I finish my certification program.

•Thanks, I'm definitely going first thing tomorrow morning. Did they give you any trouble about being late when you went in?

You need to submit your SAR 7 immediately! When your SAR 7 is late, CalWORKs can stop your benefits for the following month, but they typically give you 10 days from the due date to submit it before taking action. This is called the "submit by" date - usually around the 15th of the month. Here's what you should do: 1. Complete the form tonight - make sure EVERY section is filled out 2. Go to the office in person tomorrow morning with your completed SAR 7 3. Ask for a receipt showing you submitted it 4. If you have any income verification documents, bring those too If you submit it within the 10-day grace period and it's complete, your benefits should still be issued on time. If it's processed after your regular payment date, you might get it a few days late, but you should still get it for this month.

•my worker told me its actually until the end of the month that they give you to turn it in before they cut you off but its just that the PROCESSING takes forever if ur late so u end up with no money for weeks sometimes even if ur technically still eligible

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! This is really helpful. I'm going to fill it out tonight and bring all my paystubs from my part-time job. Do I need to bring anything else for verification?

The same exact thing happened to me in February! I was 2 days late with my SAR 7 and totally panicked. I rushed to the office and waited 3 hours but they processed it that day and my benefits came on time. Just make sure your form is COMPLETELY filled out - even boxes that don't apply to you should be marked N/A. If they find even one section missing they'll send you home to fix it. Also if anyone in your household had ANY income, even a single babysitting job, make sure you have proof of that or they might delay processing.

•That's a relief to hear you still got your benefits on time! I'll double check every single box on the form. I have my paystubs from my part-time job at the grocery store but nothing else since that's my only income right now.

I know it's super stressful, but try not to panic too much. The 5th is the "due date" but there's actually a grace period before they take action. Like others said, go to the office in person ASAP with your completed form. One thing to know: if your benefits do get delayed because of the late SAR 7, they will issue them retroactively once your form is processed. So even in the worst case, you'll still get the money, just later than usual. If you have trouble getting through to someone at the office or face long wait times, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I started using them when I had issues with my CalWORKs case and couldn't get through on the phone. They connect you directly to a live person at the CalWORKs office and it saved me hours of waiting. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE. Might be worth it if you need to follow up on your case after submitting the form.

•Thank you for letting me know about the retroactive payment - that's somewhat reassuring. I'll still try to get it processed ASAP though. I've heard about Claimyr but haven't tried it yet. Might be worth it if I can't get answers tomorrow.

this is why the system is so broken!!! they expect people to keep track of all these stupid deadlines when half the time they don't even send the forms until right before they're due!! happened to me THREE TIMES last year. and then they act all high and mighty when u turn it in late like we're not all just trying to survive and feed our kids. the whole system is designed to make us fail i swear

•fr they dont even care that ppl cant pay rent when benefits r late. like my worker literally told me "plan better" when i called crying about being late on rent bc they delayed my payment 🙄🙄

•I know what you mean. The timing is always so tight, and I swear this form came later than usual. I'm always careful about checking my mail but somehow missed it until today.

Make sure when you go to the office you ask them to date-stamp a copy for you to keep as proof you submitted it! I learned this the hard way when they claimed they never received my SAR 7 even though I had turned it in. Now I always get proof. Also if the line is super long, sometimes you can just drop it in their drop box and take a picture of yourself doing it as evidence, but getting it actually processed by a person is better if you can wait.

•That's really smart about getting it date-stamped. I'll definitely do that. And I'll plan to wait in line rather than using the drop box so hopefully it gets processed faster.

One more important thing - if you do end up having your benefits discontinued because of the late SAR 7, you have the right to request a "restoration of aid" once you submit the completed form. This is different from having to reapply completely. Make sure to specifically ask about this if they tell you your benefits will be cut off. Also, if you're in a Welfare to Work program with CalWORKs, make sure your WTW specialist knows about any potential benefit delay, as it could impact other services like childcare assistance.

•I didn't know about the "restoration of aid" option - thank you for mentioning that! I am in a Welfare to Work program and taking classes, so I'll definitely make sure to let my WTW specialist know what's happening.

•I just checked BenefitsCal and don't see any messages or notices about my SAR 7 being late. I'm hoping that's a good sign.
