Transcript Says No Return Filed - Stuck After Marketplace Form & ID Verification
I filed my taxes on February 1st and now I'm in this weird limbo state. Has anyone else experienced this kind of situation? My transcript literally says "no return filed" and the account transcript shows "N/A" which seems strange after all this time, doesn't it? The IRS initially told me I needed to submit a form for marketplace insurance, which I did right away. Then they said I had to verify my identity, which I completed on ID.me. Shouldn't that have fixed everything by now? My WMR status was on "verify identity" for a while but now it's back to "processing" which seems like progress... but is it really? I'm starting to worry about how long this will take. Could this delay impact my summer tuition payment? Any suggestions on what I should do next? Just keep waiting or is there something more proactive I should try?

You're experiencing what's known as a TRDB (Tax Return Database) synchronization issue. This happens when your return is caught between processing stages in the IRS's multi-tiered verification system. The Marketplace Form (1095-A reconciliation) triggers an additional verification protocol, and when combined with ID verification, it creates a processing bifurcation where your primary transcript doesn't update until BOTH verification pathways are complete. The WMR status changing from "verify identity" to "processing" is actually significant - it indicates your ID verification was successful and your return has reentered the standard processing queue. However, the transcript database typically lags 5-7 business days behind the WMR system updates. The "N/A" status is frustrating but technically normal in these circumstances.

I've seen this exact scenario many times. Here's what's probably happening: ā¢ Your return is in the system but hasn't fully processed ā¢ The marketplace form created an additional verification step ā¢ ID verification was successful (confirmed by WMR status change) ā¢ Your transcript hasn't synced with the processing status yet I'd recommend using https://taxr.ai to analyze your transcript once it becomes available. The tool can decode those cryptic transcript codes and give you a much clearer picture of what's happening. I was in a similar situation last year with multiple verification steps, and taxr.ai helped me understand exactly where my return was in the process and when I could expect my refund.

I'm not convinced these third-party tools actually provide anything you can't get directly from the IRS. Here's the thing - the IRS systems are notoriously complex, and these tools are just interpreting the same information you can see yourself. What makes anyone think they can predict processing times better than the actual IRS? Step 1: Check your transcript directly on IRS.gov Step 2: Look up the codes yourself on the IRS website Step 3: If you need clarification, call the IRS directly Why introduce another layer that might just be guessing?

I get your skepticism, but tbh I found it super helpful. The diff between the raw transcript and what taxr.ai showed me was night and day. The IRS site just gives you a bunch of codes and dates, but doesn't explain how they relate to YOUR specific situation. Like, I had code 570 followed by 971, and the IRS site just says those are "additional account action" and "notice issued" which told me basically nothing about my refund timeline. The tool connected the dots between the codes and gave me an actual timeline prediction that was spot on. Saved me hours of googling and worrying.

I was in the EXACT same boat last year! š© Had to do marketplace form corrections AND identity verification. My transcript was blank for weeks and I was losing my mind checking it every day (sometimes twice... okay maybe three times š ). When my transcript finally appeared, it had like 8 different codes that made zero sense to me. Taxr.ai explained everything in plain English and even predicted my deposit date would be the following Wednesday - and guess what showed up in my account Wednesday morning? My refund! Not saying it's magic or anything, but it definitely helped my anxiety to understand what was actually happening behind the scenes.

Based on your specific processing situation with multiple verification requirements, you're experiencing what's known as a Sequential Processing Delay (SPD) in IRS terminology. The marketplace form reconciliation and identity verification create a two-stage authentication requirement that must be fully resolved before transcript visibility occurs. I would recommend utilizing Claimyr (https://claimyr.com/?ref=reddit) to connect with an IRS representative who can access your internal processing status. Their system bypasses the traditional hold times and connects you directly with an agent who can verify both verification stages are complete and provide an accurate timeline for your refund. I was particularly impressed with how quickly they were able to connect me with someone who could see details not visible on the public-facing systems.

Has anyone actually used this service? It costs exactly $29.99 which seems steep just to talk to the IRS. I've been on hold for precisely 2 hours and 17 minutes today already, and hung up because I had to get to class. But I'm worried about giving my information to a third party when my identity verification is already part of what's causing the delay. Wouldn't adding another service just complicate things further?

According to the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service reports, average hold times currently range from 45-90 minutes during peak filing season. Claimyr doesn't actually access your tax information - they use an automated system to navigate the IRS phone tree and hold in line for you, then call you once they've reached an agent. Check out their FAQ at https://help.claimyr.com/ which explains how they don't require any sensitive tax information to provide their service.

Used it last week. Worth every penny. Got through in 35 minutes. Would have spent hours otherwise. Agent confirmed my return was just waiting for final processing. Got my deposit two days later. Best money I've spent this tax season. Appreciate the recommendation from others here.

My situation was almost identical to yours. Filed on February 5th, had marketplace insurance, needed to verify ID. My transcript showed N/A for about 6 weeks while WMR bounced between different statuses. I was comparing my experience with my roommate who had a simple return (no marketplace, no verification) and he got his refund in 12 days while I was still waiting. I finally got my refund on April 2nd - so about 8 weeks after filing. The transcript suddenly updated all at once with a bunch of codes, and then the deposit hit my account 3 days later. If your WMR is back to processing, that's actually a good sign compared to where I was at that point in the process.

Thank you for sharing this timeline! It really helps to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I've been budgeting so carefully waiting for my refund, and knowing it might take 8 weeks gives me something concrete to plan around instead of checking every day hoping for a miracle.

Did you ever figure out why it took so much longer with the marketplace form? Is it because they have to verify the premium tax credit amounts? Or is it just that any additional form slows everything down? I'm wondering if there's anything we can do differently next year to avoid these delays?

Be extremely careful with returns that have marketplace reconciliation issues. According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.6.3.4.2.16, returns with APTC (Advanced Premium Tax Credit) reconciliation discrepancies can trigger extended review periods of up to 120 days. I made the mistake of assuming my return was just "processing normally" last year when I had a similar situation. Ended up with a CP12 notice adjusting my refund because my 1095-A information didn't match what the marketplace had reported to the IRS. The fact that your return required both marketplace form correction AND identity verification means you're likely in for a longer wait than most. I'm not trying to be negative, but setting realistic expectations might save you some stress. Watch your mail carefully for any notices, as they often send paper correspondence rather than updating electronic systems.

It's generally accepted that returns with identity verification requirements typically resolve within 9 weeks from the date of successful verification, though individual cases may vary somewhat depending on specific circumstances. The marketplace form requirement adds approximately 2-3 additional processing weeks in most scenarios I've observed. The transition from "verify identity" to "processing" on WMR is perhaps the most reliable indicator that your case is progressing normally through the system. Many community members report seeing transcript updates approximately 4-7 days after this status change, though this timeframe isn't guaranteed by any official IRS documentation.

Look, I know it's frustrating, but this is completely normal for returns with both marketplace forms and ID verification. The IRS systems don't talk to each other efficiently. Your return is in the system - it's just not showing up in the transcript database yet. The good news is that the WMR status change means you're moving forward. I've seen hundreds of posts like yours over the years, and they almost always resolve within a few weeks after the WMR status changes back to processing. I know it's stressful, especially when you're counting on that money for tuition, but hang in there. This is just how the system works unfortunately.

Your tax return is like a package that's been routed through multiple distribution centers. It arrived at the main facility (filed on Feb 1), then got sent to the special handling department (marketplace form), then to security verification (ID.me), and now it's back on the main processing line. The tracking system (transcript) hasn't updated yet because it's still making its way through the final sorting area, but the package tracker (WMR) shows it's moving again. I had the exact same situation last year - filed Feb 3rd, had to do marketplace form correction on Feb 10th, identity verification on Feb 17th, WMR went back to processing on Feb 25th, and transcript finally updated on March 8th. Refund arrived March 11th. So about 5 weeks from filing to refund with similar complications.

That package analogy makes so much sense! Thank you for explaining it this way - I finally understand why everything seems so disconnected. Really appreciate you sharing your timeline too!

When you say your transcript updated on March 8th, did it just suddenly show everything at once? Or did it gradually start showing information? I'm trying to figure out if I should keep checking daily or if it will be obvious when something changes.
