My 2024 tax transcript shows "No Return Filed" despite e-filing in February - HoH with EIC (Cycle 05)

Filed my taxes electronically back in February. Got accepted right away and WMR showed one bar. Went to check my transcript today (March 3rd, 2025) and it's showing "No tax return filed" at the bottom under transactions. I'm getting really worried now. I pulled up my Account Transcript from the IRS website. Here's what it shows: Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury Request Date: 03-03-2025 Response Date: 03-03-2025 Account Transcript FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2024 ACCOUNT BALANCE: 0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 17, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 17, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): 0.00 ** INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED EXEMPTIONS: 00 FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: TAXABLE INCOME: TAX PER RETURN: SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT TRANSACTIONS CODE | EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION | CYCLE | DATE | AMOUNT No tax return filed This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I claimed HoH status with an EIC and some education credits, nothing too complicated. I was expecting my refund to be about $4,900. I've been checking the WMR tool every day and still just seeing the one bar. I know I'm on cycle 05 based on previous years. Shouldn't there be some movement by now? It's been almost 4 weeks since I e-filed. The transcript clearly says "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT" and at the bottom it just says "No tax return filed" under transactions. The account balance shows $0.00 with no accrued interest or penalties as of March 17th. I double-checked and my filing status is correctly showing as Head of Household on the transcript, but there's no information filled in for the Adjusted Gross Income, Taxable Income, or Tax Per Return sections. Has anyone else had this issue? How long should I wait before contacting the IRS? I'm really counting on this refund and starting to panic that something went wrong with my filing.

This is actually not uncommon. When your transcript shows "No tax return filed" it usually means one of a few things: 1. Your return is still in the initial processing queue and hasn't been fully processed into the IRS system yet 2. There might have been an identity verification hold placed on your return 3. Your return could have been flagged for review due to the credits you claimed Cycle 05 typically updates on Thursday nights/Friday mornings. So if you're on cycle 05, check your transcript again on Friday morning. The fact that WMR shows one bar is actually a good sign - it means your return was received. If you don't see any updates by mid-March (around the 15th), then you might want to call the IRS or check if they sent you any correspondence requesting additional information. The EIC and education credits often trigger additional reviews, especially early in the tax season. Also make sure the tax software you used gave you a confirmation that your return was actually accepted by the IRS, not just submitted.

Thanks for this info. My tax software did show "accepted" status, so that's good to know. I'll check back on Friday morning to see if anything updates. Really hoping I don't need to call them...

This hapened to me last year and it was just delayed processing. I ended up getting my refund 6 weeks after filing instead of the usual 3. The EIC review adds time for sure!

i've been on cycle 05 for years and last year It took until April to get my refund even tho I filed in February. The IRS is so slow these days 🤦‍♂️

I was in the exact same situation last month. Kept checking my transcript and seeing nothing. Someone recommended taxr.ai to me and it was a game changer. The tool analyzed my transcript and explained exactly what was happening and when to expect updates. Saved me tons of stress and hours of googling random IRS codes. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - totally worth it when you're stuck in IRS limbo!

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It does WAY more than just reading the transcript. It interprets all the codes, explains what each date means, tells you exactly when to expect updates based on your cycle code, and gives you a projected refund date. It also suggests what actions you should take if there are delays. I was about to pull my hair out trying to decode all those 570/971 codes before I found this. Now I check it weekly and always know exactly what's happening with my return!

0 coins

is it free or how much does it cost? sounds to good to be true tbh

0 coins

It's honestly the best money I've ever spent on tax stuff. I can't even tell you how many hours of stress and confusion it saved me. My return had all kinds of weird codes and holds, and it explained everything in plain English. Now I recommend it to everyone I know who's dealing with tax issues!

After sitting on hold for HOURS trying to reach the IRS (and getting disconnected twice 😡), I finally found this app called Claimyr that got me through to an actual human at the IRS in about 20 minutes. The agent told me my return was just sitting in queue waiting to be processed and released my refund right away. I found them at claimyr.com - absolutely worth it to skip the ridiculous wait times and actually get answers.

0 coins

Does this actually work? I've been trying to call the IRS for weeks and can never get through

0 coins

Yes! It seriously works. They basically wait on hold for you and then call you when they've got an agent on the line. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after spending literally 8+ hours trying to get through myself. My refund was released 2 days after I talked to the agent.

0 coins

Nice try, Claimyr marketing team 🙄

0 coins

Lol I get why you'd think that, but nope. Just someone who was in the same desperate situation as OP. When you've been checking WMR every day for weeks and getting nowhere, you'll try anything. And when something actually works, you tell people about it. Simple as that.

0 coins

Just to confirm - I used claimyr last year when I had a similr issue. Agent told me my return was stuck because they needed to verify something. Got my refund like a week later. Best money I ever spent after trying for literally a month to reach someone at the IRS.

0 coins

If your WMR shows one bar, your return was accepted but hasn't been processed yet. I'd wait one more cycle update before getting too worried. With the EIC, they often take longer to process. I'm on cycle 05 too and mine just updated this morning after filing on Feb 1st. The system is just backed up right now.

Check your mail carefully - sometimes they send a letter requesting verification and your transcript stays in this state until you respond. Happened to me last year and I almost missed the letter because it looked like junk mail!

0 coins

I've been checking all my mail obsessively! So far nothing from the IRS at all...

0 coins

Sometimes they send it weeks after you file. Keep an eye out for ANY mail from Dept of Treasury or IRS. My verification letter came almost 6 weeks after filing last year.

0 coins

👆 This is what happened to me too. Letter came way later than expected.

0 coins

the IRS is a joke. ive been waiting since january for my refund. they still showing processing on WMR. same transcript issue as you. no info, no updates, nothing. welcome to the club 🤡

0 coins

same boat. filed jan 18, still nothing. called and they just say "its being processed" every time. meanwhile they charge interest and penalties if WE are late by even one day 🤦‍♂️

0 coins

exactly!! they got different rules for themselves vs us. total BS

0 coins

My brother in law waited 11 months for his refund last year. ELEVEN. MONTHS. The system is completely broken.

0 coins

Have you tried calling the IRS? I know it's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to figure out what's going on. The transcript system isn't always up to date.

0 coins

I tried calling once but gave up after being on hold for over an hour 😞

0 coins

I used Claimyr.com to get thru to them when I was in the same situation. They got me connected with an agent who explained everything. My return was stuck because of a mismatch with my W2 information. Best money I ever spent after trying to call IRS for weeks.

0 coins

Did you file with a tax preparer or DIY software? If DIY, which one? Sometimes certain software has more delays than others when transmitting to the IRS. Looking at your transcript, it's definitely in the system but not fully processed yet.

0 coins

I used FreeTaxUSA this year. Never had issues with them before, and got the acceptance notification right away.

0 coins

FreeTaxUSA is solid, so that's probably not the issue. Most likely just delayed processing due to the credits you claimed. The EIC especially triggers additional review procedures. Hang in there!

0 coins

I had this EXACT situation happen last year. My transcript looked just like yours. I ended up getting a letter in the mail about 2 weeks later saying they needed to verify my identity. After I did that online, my refund was processed within 10 days. Keep an eye on your mail!

0 coins

It's only been 4 weeks...y'all need to chill. The IRS is processing millions of returns and they're understaffed. This is normal, especially with credits. My transcript looked the same last year and then suddenly updated all at once in mid-March. Patience.

0 coins

Yup. This is the answer. Everyone freaks out in February/March about delays but then magically most refunds show up by April. It's the same story every year.

0 coins

Easy to say "chill" when it's not YOUR money that's held up 🙄 Some of us actually need that refund to pay bills.

0 coins

I understand that, but panicking won't make it come any faster. The system is what it is. I've been through this for many years and the pattern is always the same - early filers with credits wait longer than they expect.

0 coins

Cycle 05 gang represent! 🙌 We always get the weird delays. I went through the same thing you're describing. What fixed it for me was using taxr.ai to analyze my transcript (https://taxr.ai). The site showed me exactly what was going on - turned out my return was under review for the education credits. The tool gave me a predicted date for when everything would update, and it was spot on. Saved me from checking WMR and my transcript obsessively.

0 coins

How much did taxr cost? Is it a subscription or one-time thing?

0 coins

It's so worth whatever they charge - I was pulling my hair out trying to understand what all the codes meant on my transcript! So much better than spending hours googling every little code and date. The timeline predictions were super accurate for me too.

0 coins

Since you filed in February and claimed EIC, you're subject to the PATH Act which prevents the IRS from issuing certain refunds before mid-February. Even after that date passes, returns with these credits undergo additional screening. If your WMR shows accepted, you should be fine - just stuck in the processing queue. Give it another week or two.

0 coins

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I had this EXACT same situation last year and it turned out my return got lost in the system somehow. I ended up having to refile in April and didn't get my refund until JUNE. If you don't see updates by mid-March, I'd seriously consider calling them.

0 coins

Oh no, that's my worst fear 😱 Did you get any notification that something was wrong before you finally called them?

0 coins

Nope, absolutely nothing. WMR just sat at one bar forever. When I finally got through to someone on the phone (after HOURS of trying), they told me they had no record of my return despite my tax software showing it was accepted. The whole system is a mess.

0 coins

Check the IRS2Go app instead of the website - sometimes it updates faster. Also, have you created an account on the IRS website? Sometimes you can see more details there than just using the transcript request system.

0 coins

I've seen this before. Your return is probably sitting in the Error Resolution Department queue. They're backlogged this time of year. If there was an error on your return or a mismatch with information they have on file, it gets routed there for manual review. Unfortunately there's no way to check this status online - you have to call.

0 coins

This. My return got stuck in ERD last year because my employer typo'd my SSN on my W2. Took 8 weeks to resolve and I only found out by calling.

0 coins

I tried calling like 50 times and could never get through. Used claimyr.com after someone here recommended it and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed mine was in ERS review and gave me a timeframe for resolution. Worth checking out if you're desperate for answers.

0 coins

Does your "Account Transcript" match your "Return Transcript"? Sometimes they update at different times. If you can see your Return Transcript but your Account Transcript shows no return filed, that's actually normal during processing.

0 coins

I don't have a Return Transcript available at all. When I try to access it, it says no return filed for this period.

0 coins

Ah, then your return is still in the initial processing stage. This is actually completely normal for early filers with credits. The IRS batches these returns and processes them in waves.

0 coins

pro tip: i used taxr.ai to figure out what was going on with my transcript last week. it told me there was a refund hold that wasn't obvious to me and predicted when it would release. their prediction was right on the money (refund arrived exactly when they said). irs codes are like hieroglyphics to normal people lol. https://taxr.ai saved me so much time vs trying to research every code and date

0 coins

you need to verify if the irs actually recieved your return. i had this issue last year and it turns out my tax preparer submitted it but it got rejected for some reason and they never told me. i didnt find out until april when i called. check with whoever prepared your taxes!

0 coins

I prepared them myself with software, and got the acceptance confirmation. But maybe I should double check...

0 coins

Hey everyone- so I had almost the exact same issue a couple weeks ago. Like literally the same transcript situation. I used Claimyr to get through to an IRS agent (found them at claimyr.com) and the agent told me my return was flagged for manual review due to the education credits. Nothing I could do but wait, but at least I knew what was happening. My transcript finally updated last Friday and my refund hit my account yesterday. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual human at the IRS to figure out what's happening.

0 coins

how long did it take from when you first filed to getting your refund?

0 coins

I filed on Jan 30th and got my refund March 1st, so exactly one month. But I'd been stressing the whole time because my transcript looked just like OP's. Talking to the agent really helped me understand the process and stop worrying so much.

Does Claimyr actually work? Sounds too good to be true

0 coins

100% works. They basically call the IRS and navigate the phone tree for you, then call you once they have an agent on the line. I'd tried calling myself over and over and got nowhere. With Claimyr I was talking to an actual IRS employee within 20 minutes. Completely worth it when you're desperate for answers.
