Filed Feb 24th but IRS Transcript Shows "No Return Filed" with March 20 Interest Date Despite $0 Balance
Filed my taxes on February 24th and still stuck on one bar with tax topic 152 on Where's My Refund. Looking at my Account Transcript from the IRS (pulled on 03-06-2023), I see something concerning. I'm posting the transcript details below: Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data Request Date: 03-06-2023 Response Date: 03-06-2023 Account Transcript FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2022 ACCOUNT BALANCE: 0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 21, 2023 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 21, 2023 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): 0.00 ** INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED ** EXEMPTIONS: 00 FILING STATUS: Single ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: TAXABLE INCOME: TAX PER RETURN: SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT No tax return filed This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I'm especially worried because I definitely filed over two weeks ago but my transcript shows "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT" and "No tax return filed" under the transactions section. What's going on with these March 21st dates for the accrued interest and penalty (both showing $0.00)? Is this normal during processing or does it mean my return was rejected somehow? My account balance is showing $0.00 which seems right since I haven't received my refund yet, but why would it say no return was filed? Anyone else seeing similar dates or status on their transcript? The transcript clearly shows tax period Dec. 31, 2022, and my filing status as Single. Really starting to get anxious about this. Should I refile or wait longer? It's been almost two weeks since I filed on February 24th.

The transcript shows several key indicators about your tax return status. While you filed on February 24th, the IRS transcript dated March 6th, 2023, shows "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT" which indicates your return is still in the pre-processing queue. Your filing status is correctly showing as Single, but most fields are empty because the return hasn't been officially processed into the IRS system yet. The March 20, 2023 dates you're seeing next to "ACCRUED INTEREST" and "ACCRUED PENALTY" (both $0.00) are standard placeholder dates - they don't indicate any actual issues with your return. Your account balance showing $0.00 is also normal at this stage. The "No tax return filed" under transactions and missing information for items like "ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME" and "TAXABLE INCOME" are all consistent with a return that's been submitted but hasn't yet been processed. The Tax Topic 152 you're seeing on Where's My Refund is a standard code that simply indicates you're claiming a refund. This transcript pattern is typical for recently filed returns still awaiting processing. Nothing in these details suggests any problems with your submission.

Hey guys, instead of trying to decode these transcripts like we're all detectives, I've been using taxr.ai. It's only $1 and it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and when to expect your refund. Way better than guessing! https://taxr.ai

•Yeah its legit! Used it for both my 2021 and 2022 returns. It basically reads all the codes and dates and tells you exactly whats happening. Better than asking strangers online lol

Those dates usually dont mean anything until you see actual processing codes show up. Its just standard placeholder dates tbh

Called IRS this morning and was told returns filed end of Feb are taking longer than usual due to high volume. They said to keep checking WMR and transcripts.
