Filed taxes 5 weeks ago - IRS transcript shows 'Single' filing status but all financial data is blank, no refund updates on $3,200 return accepted March 11

I e-filed my taxes 5 weeks ago and still don't have any updates. Nothing on Where's My Refund, nothing on my transcript. I checked my transcript today and it shows a zero balance but doesn't even acknowledge that I filed for 2024. Here's what I'm seeing on my Internal Revenue Service transcript from the United States Department of the Treasury: FORM NUMBER: 1040 ACCOUNT BALANCE: 0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): 0.00 ** INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN ** EXEMPTIONS: 00 FILING STATUS: Single ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: [blank] TAXABLE INCOME: [blank] TAX PER RETURN: [blank] SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: [blank] SE TAXABLE INCOME: [blank] My filing status shows as Single, but there's literally no other information - just zeros everywhere. No adjusted gross income, no taxable income, no tax per return. I'm supposed to get a refund of around $3,200. I got confirmation from my tax software that the IRS accepted my return on March 11, but there's absolutely no record of it on my transcript. The transcript clearly shows my filing status is Single, but all the other important fields are completely empty. Not even zeros - just blank spaces where my income and tax information should be. It's like the IRS has my basic information but none of the actual tax data I submitted. Did the IRS lose my return? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I just file again or wait longer? I'm really counting on this refund and getting worried that something went wrong with my filing.

This is completely normal for the current tax season. When your transcript shows all zeros like that, it means the IRS has received your return but hasn't processed it yet. The Account Balance of 0.00 is accurate - you don't owe anything. The current processing time for e-filed returns with refunds is 6-8 weeks (sometimes longer), and paper returns can take 3+ months. Since you e-filed 5 weeks ago, you're still within the normal processing window. The IRS is extremely backlogged right now. A few things to check: 1. Verify that your tax software shows "accepted" not just "transmitted" 2. Make sure you're looking at the right tax year transcript 3. Check your email for any notices from your tax software about rejections Don't file again! That will absolutely cause problems and further delay your refund. Just keep checking your transcript weekly - eventually you'll see a 150 cycle code appear when they process your return, and then other codes like 846 when your refund is scheduled.

Thanks for the reassurance. My tax software definitely shows "accepted" and I haven't received any rejection notices. I'll try to be more patient!

I waited 11 weeks last year, its a complete nightmare. The IRS is so broken it's not even funny 🤦‍♂️

0 coins

what does the 150 code exactly mean? I've seen it on my transcript but not sure

0 coins

150 code means your return has been processed and the tax has been assessed. It's basically the starting point for everything else. Without that, nothing else happens with your refund.

my return took TWO MONTHS last year and i filed in february! the irs is a disaster right now with all the backlogs.

Anyone know if calling the IRS helps speed things up? I've been waiting 7 weeks now 😫

I was in exactly this situation last month. Spent days trying to figure out what was going on with my transcripts and getting nowhere. Finally decided to try taxr.ai and it was a GAME CHANGER. It actually explained exactly what was happening with my return and why it wasn't showing up yet. Turns out there was a verification hold that wasn't even visible in my transcripts yet. The tool told me exactly what to expect next and when my refund would likely be released. Sure enough, everything happened exactly as predicted. Saved me so much stress and uncertainty - https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It does wayyy more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all the codes, dates, and amounts to identify patterns the IRS doesn't make obvious. It also explained what each code actually meant for MY specific situation, not just generic definitions. The best part was getting a clear timeline prediction - mine was accurate to the day! I've become a total evangelist for this service because dealing with the IRS is such a nightmare otherwise.

0 coins

Just tried it and WOW. It answered questions I didn't even know to ask about my return! 100% worth it - finally understand what's happening with my refund instead of just guessing.

0 coins

does it need your personal info? seems sketchy

0 coins

You just upload your transcript that you download from the IRS. The analysis is instant and helped me understand exactly what was happening instead of me trying to decode all those weird IRS codes myself.

After waiting 6 weeks with no movement on my refund, I was desperate for answers. Tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an IRS agent in less than 20 minutes. Worth every penny to finally talk to a real person who could tell me what was going on with my return. Found out there was a simple verification issue they needed to clear up, and my refund was released a week later. Talking to an actual human at the IRS instead of getting automated messages or waiting on hold for hours was such a relief.

0 coins

hold up, what's this claimyr thing? The IRS never answers their phones...

0 coins

It's a service that navigates the IRS phone system for you and calls you back when they have an agent on the line. Saved me from spending hours on hold. The agent I talked to was able to see things about my return that weren't showing up online yet.

0 coins

sounds too good to be true tbh. The IRS phone lines are impossible. 🧢

0 coins

I was skeptical too but desperate after my return was stuck for almost 2 months. It was honestly the best decision I made - agent told me there was a flag on my account that needed to be cleared, did it right then on the phone, and my refund was processed the next week.

0 coins

Wish I'd known about this earlier. Spent 3 hours on hold yesterday only to get disconnected 😡

0 coins

Do they work for dependent verification issues too? My return's been held up for that.

0 coins

Yeah, it works for any IRS issue - they just get you connected to an agent who can look up your specific case. Way better than trying to decipher the vague online status.

From your screenshot, I can tell your transcript just hasn't been updated yet. Mine looked exactly like this for about 6 weeks before anything showed up. Then suddenly one day all the info appeared and my refund was issued the next week. The IRS is running super slow this year.

0 coins

DO NOT FILE AGAIN!!!! This will flag your return and cause a HUGE delay. Your return has been received but probably hasn't been processed yet. If your tax software says it was accepted, then the IRS has it. Be patient, I know it sucks but filing again will only make things worse!

0 coins

Ok I won't file again! Thanks for the warning.

0 coins

learned this the hard way last year and ended up waiting until September for my refund. Def don't file twice!!!!

The all zeroes transcript is normal at this stage. Don't worry. The IRS is taking forever this year processing returns. I filed end of February and just got my refund last week. Your return is in the system but they havent gotten to it yet. Check your transcripts on Friday mornings - thats when they typically update.

0 coins

why friday mornings specifically? is that when their computer system updates or something?

0 coins

Yep! The IRS updates transcripts in batches based on what they call "cycles" - most updates happen overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Not all accounts update every week, but Friday is when you're most likely to see changes.

0 coins

I checked ur image and that's what my transcript looked like for weeks before it got updated. Don't worry. The zeros are normal when the return is in the queue but hasn't been processed yet. As long as you got an acceptance confirmation from ur tax software ur good. Just gonna have to wait it out like the rest of us 🙃

0 coins

I'm in this exact same situation right now. Filed March 4th, accepted same day, and absolutely nothing on transcripts or WMR since then. Just says "Your tax return is still being processed." 🤬 I'm due around $4100 and really need that money. So frustrating not knowing what's happening.

0 coins

Try checking your transcripts for code 570 or 971. Those indicate there might be a hold on your account that needs addressing.

0 coins

That's the problem - there are NO codes on my transcript at all. Just zeros like OP's screenshot. Nothing to even indicate they've looked at my return.

0 coins

I had to call the IRS about this exact issue. They told me that even tho my return was "accepted" it was still in the processing queue and hadn't been assigned to a reviewer yet. Said to wait 8 weeks from the filing date before calling back. Super frustrating but apparently normal for how backed up they are.

0 coins

How did you even get through to them? I've been calling for days and can't get past the automated system.

0 coins

I called right when they opened at 7am and still waited 45 minutes. Their phone system is a complete joke.

0 coins

try claimyr.com - i used them and got thru in 20 min after trying to call for 2 weeks on my own with no luck. talking to a human who could actually explain what was going on with my return was totally worth it.

0 coins

The IRS is still processing returns from LAST YEAR so don't expect anything quick. My transcript looked exactly like yours for 9 weeks before anything happened. Then it suddenly updated and I got my refund a week later. Nothing you can do but wait unfortunately.

0 coins

My tax preparer said that a lot of returns filed in March are taking longer this year because of some new anti-fraud measures. If there's anything even slightly unusual about your return (self-employment income, earned income credit, etc) it might take longer to process. The transcript with all zeros is normal during this waiting period.

0 coins

I did claim the earned income credit... that might explain it. Thanks for the info!

0 coins

Im a tax preparer and we're seeing tons of delays this year. Average wait time for refunds is now 6-8 weeks even for simple returns. As long as you got the "accepted" notification (not just "received") from your software, your return is in the system. The all-zeros transcript is completely normal at this stage - it just means processing hasn't started yet. Hold tight!

0 coins

I was totally confused by my transcript too! Spent hours trying to figure it out on my own. Finally used taxr.ai and it explained everything that was happening behind the scenes with my refund. Turns out there was a processing delay that wasn't even visible on my transcript yet. The site predicted exactly when my refund would come through and it was spot on. Worth checking out if you're sick of trying to decode IRS jargon - https://taxr.ai

0 coins

how does it know more than what's on the transcript? seems impossible

0 coins

It analyzes patterns in the data that aren't obvious to us regular humans. Like certain date combinations or sequence of codes that indicate specific IRS processes. It also tracks processing timelines across thousands of returns so it can predict what will happen next. Saved me from checking WMR 10 times a day lol

0 coins

Did u file with a tax preparer or software? If software, which one? Some of them have been having issues this year with transmissions to the IRS.

0 coins

I used TurboTax. But I got the acceptance confirmation so it should be in their system.

0 coins

Yeah if TurboTax showed accepted you're fine. Just a waiting game now. Their system is overwhelmed every year.

0 coins

Your transcript is showing Account Balance 0.00 which is correct - you don't owe anything. Since you're expecting a refund, this would be normal. The zeros for income are just because they haven't processed your return yet to populate those fields. As long as your tax software shows the return was accepted (not just transmitted), you should be fine. Just keep waiting.

I was about to refile after 7 weeks of no updates but decided to try claimyr.com to talk to an IRS agent first. Best decision ever! Got connected to an agent who told me my return was just sitting in a processing queue and refiling would have created a huge mess. Agent was able to see details that weren't showing on my transcript yet. Refund showed up two weeks later. The fee I paid was nothing compared to the headache it saved me.

0 coins

Have you checked the status on the Where's My Refund tool? Sometimes that updates before the transcript does. But honestly, 5 weeks is still within normal processing time these days, especially if you claimed certain credits.

0 coins

Yeah I checked WMR first. Just says "Your return is still being processed" with no details.

0 coins

That's actually good news. It means they have your return in the system. If there was nothing at all or if it said "we cannot provide information" then I'd be concerned.

0 coins

Why does the IRS gotta be so SLOW every damn year?? I filed in February and didn't get my refund until April. The whole system is broken. But yeah your transcript looking like that is totally normal while you wait. Nothing to worry about yet.

0 coins

Looks like a perfectly normal transcript for a return that's been received but not processed yet. Give it another 2-3 weeks before panicking. The IRS is severely backlogged this year.
