Tax Return Rejected - Need IP PIN but Never Had One Before - What Now?

My tax return just got rejected because it says I need an IP PIN but I've never had one before in my life. Super confused because I've been filing normally for years. Anyone know what to do about this?

This is actually becoming more common. The IRS is expanding their Identity Protection PIN program. You'll need to create an ID.me account and get your IP PIN through the IRS website. If you can't verify online, you'll have to call the IRS Identity Verification hotline at 800-830-5084 or make an appointment at a local IRS office.

id.me is the worst! took me like 3 tries to get verified. Keep trying tho, it works eventually 🙄

Hey guys instead of playing detective with the IRS website, I started using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. It costs a buck but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and what to do next. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

it does way more than just read transcripts! It actually analyzes everything and gives you step-by-step instructions. It caught stuff I totally missed

This happened to my sister too! The IRS has been automatically enrolling people in the IP PIN program if they detect any suspicious activity on your SSN, even if you never requested it. You can also try going to an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in person - sometimes they can issue you an IP PIN on the spot if you bring proper ID. Just make sure to make an appointment first!

This is super helpful info! I had no idea they were automatically enrolling people. Do you know if there's a way to check if you're already enrolled in the IP PIN program before trying to get one? Don't want to create duplicate requests or anything
