IRS IP PIN not received - How to file taxes without it?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my IP PIN for filing taxes. I haven't received one in the mail, but the system is asking for it when I try to file. I'm not even sure if I was supposed to get one. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do?

I've been there, buddy. The IRS can be a real pain sometimes. Have you tried checking your online account? You might be able to retrieve your IP PIN there.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give that a shot. Do you know if there's a specific section where I should look for it?

•Yeah, once you log in, look for something like 'Get An IP PIN' or 'Retrieve Your IP PIN'. It should be pretty straightforward from there. Good luck!

Ugh, the IRS and their stupid PINs 🙄 I swear they make everything more complicated than it needs to be. Why can't they just send everyone their PIN automatically?

•Ikr? It's like they want us to mess up so they can fine us or something. The whole system needs an overhaul.

•To be fair, they're trying to prevent identity theft. But yeah, the execution could definitely be better.

Here's what you need to know about IP PINs: 1. Not everyone gets one automatically. They're usually issued if you've been a victim of identity theft or if you live in certain states. 2. If you didn't receive one but need it, you can request it online through the IRS website. 3. To get your IP PIN online: - Go to the IRS website (irs.gov) - Look for the 'Get An IP PIN' tool - You'll need to verify your identity - Once verified, you can view or retrieve your IP PIN 4. If you can't do it online, you can call the IRS, but be prepared for long wait times. 5. Remember, your IP PIN changes every year, so make sure you're using the current one. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! I had no idea about the state-specific thing. I'll definitely try the online tool first.

•This is super helpful! Quick question - do you know if there's a deadline for requesting an IP PIN?

•Good question! There's no strict deadline, but you'll want to get it before you file your taxes. If you're close to the tax filing deadline, it's best to request it ASAP to avoid delays.

I found a method to get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds interesting, but $20? Is it really worth it?

•For me, it definitely was. I spent hours trying to get through before. This saved me so much time and frustration.

•Idk man, seems kinda sketchy. Has anyone else tried this?

•I get the skepticism, but it's legit. They don't ask for any personal info, just your phone number to forward the call. Saved me a whole day of being on hold.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we need a special PIN just to file our taxes? 🤔 Like, isn't our SSN enough?

•Preach! 🙌 The whole tax system is a joke. We need a complete overhaul.

•It's for extra security. With all the data breaches these days, I'm kinda glad they're taking extra precautions.

Pro tip: If you cant get your IP PIN online or by phone, you can file Form 15227 to request one. It takes longer, but it's an option if your stuck.

Just wanted to add that if you're using tax software like TurboTax or H&R Block, they usually have built-in help for IP PIN issues. Sometimes they can guide you through the retrieval process or even help you file without it in certain situations. Also, if you're married filing jointly and only one spouse has an IP PIN, you'll need to get one for both - learned that the hard way last year! 😅
