Filed taxes but need 6-digit PIN code - How to get Identity Protection PIN?
My tax return got rejected because IRS says I need a 6 digit pin code to file. Never had to use one before and no idea how to get it. Anyone know where to find this or how to get one? Really need to file asap.

This is likely an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN). If you never requested one, but IRS says you need it, your account may have been flagged for identity verification. You'll need to either retrieve it from the letter IRS sent you (Notice CP01A), or create an ID.me account and get it online at IRS.gov. If you can't find the letter, call IRS at 800-908-4490.

Hey, while your figuring this out you should try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on with your account and how to fix issues like this. Its only $1 and saved me hours of headache https://taxr.ai

Make sure to save the PIN when u get it! They send new ones every year and if u lose it ur basically screwed until you can get through to someone

Pro tip: if you can't access ID.me or don't have the letter, you can also visit a Taxpayer Assistance Center in person with proper ID. They can help you get your IP PIN on the spot. Use the IRS office locator on their website to find one near you - just make sure to bring two forms of ID!

•This is super helpful! Didn't even know about the in-person option. Do you know if they're usually busy or should I expect a long wait? Want to make sure I plan enough time if the online route doesn't work out.
