SBTPG site shows no trace number for my refund - anyone else having this issue?

I checked my refund status on SBTPG yesterday and noticed there's no trace number showing up. I filed through TurboTax on March 10th and got an acceptance notification on March 12th. My transcript shows my refund was issued on April 3rd, but when I log into the SBTPG site to see where my money actually is, there's just a blank space where the trace number should be. It's been almost two weeks since the issue date. My refund was supposed to be $3,768 with the fees taken out. Has anyone else run into this? I'm getting worried because my mortgage payment is coming up next week and I was counting on this money. Already tried calling SBTPG customer service but got disconnected after waiting for 45 minutes.

This happens when SBTPG hasn't actually received your refund from the IRS yet, despite what your transcript shows. The "refund issued" date on your transcript just means the IRS has processed it and scheduled payment, but there's often a delay before it hits SBTPG. A few things to check: - Look at your transcript for code 846 - this confirms the refund was actually issued - Check if there are any offset codes that might indicate part of your refund was taken for debts - If your bank account info was incorrect, the deposit could have been rejected If it's been more than 5 business days since your refund issue date, you should call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 to check the status. They can tell you if there were any issues with the transfer. SBTPG typically can't help much until they actually receive the funds.

Thank you for the detailed response. I do see code 846 on my transcript with the April 3rd date. There are no offset codes that I can tell. All my bank info is correct, I've used the same account for years.

Srsly? U had to wait 45 mins and then got disconnected?? That's the exact same crap that happened to me last month. SBTPG is the worst

One more thing to consider - sometimes the IRS sends paper checks instead of direct deposits even if you requested DD. This happens randomly sometimes for security purposes. Check your mail carefully for the next week.

I've been in the same situation before. Found out later my refund was randomly selected for additional review, but my transcript still showed the 846 code. Took another 2 weeks after that date to actually get it.

I had a similar issue and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was going on with my refund. I finally found a tool called taxr.ai that helped me understand exactly what was happening with my transcript. It showed me that there was actually an offset code hiding in my transcript that I missed. Seriously saved me from going crazy trying to decipher all those codes and dates myself. I use it all the time now to check what's really going on instead of guessing. Here's the link if you want to check it out: https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's honestly amazing! You upload your transcript and it analyzes all those weird IRS codes and tells you in plain english what's happening, when you'll get paid, if there are any issues, etc. Saved me HOURS of googling random codes. The peace of mind alone was worth it.

i dunno, seems sketchy giving your tax info to some random site 🤔

I totally understand the concern! I felt the same way at first. But its actually just reading the transcript you upload - same info you'd share if you posted screenshots here asking for help. Not like giving SSN or anything. And honestly, after 3 weeks of stress and confusion, I was desperate for answers.

Just checked out that site, and OMG why doesn't the IRS just explain things like this??? Their system is literally designed to confuse people 🤬

I had this exact problem last month! My refund was about $4,200 and the trace number was missing on SBTPG for over 2 weeks after my transcript showed refund issued. I tried calling the IRS like 15 times and could never get through to an actual person. Finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback from an IRS agent within an hour. Best money I've ever spent! The agent told me my refund had actually been flagged for review but it wasn't showing on my transcript. They pushed it through after verifying my identity and I had my money 3 days later.

100% real. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after waiting on hold for 2+ hours multiple times. They basically navigate the IRS phone tree for you and get you in the callback queue. Talking to a real person solved my issue in minutes when I'd been stuck for weeks.

Is this some kind of scam? Why would I pay to talk to the IRS when I can call them myself for free?

lol have you actually tried calling the IRS lately? It's literally impossible to get through. I spent HOURS on multiple days trying. When you're missing thousands of dollars and bills are due, the service pays for itself. But you do you!

I might try this if I don't see movement in the next few days. Did they ask you any specific questions when you finally got through?

They just verified my identity (name, SSN, address, etc) and asked about my filing status. The agent could actually see what was happening with my refund that wasn't showing on the transcript. Turns out there was a flag on my account that wouldn't have resolved without me calling.

Check if you have a refund offset. The IRS mite have taken some of your money for past debts like student loans or child support. They don't always tell you right away and SBTPG wouldnt know either.

The exact same thing happened to me. No trace number, no updates from SBTPG. I was panicking because I needed that money for rent. I ended up getting a check in the mail even though I signed up for direct deposit! The IRS randomly decides to send paper checks sometimes for "security reasons" 🙄 Keep an eye on your mailbox.

Omg I didn't even think to check the mail. I'll have to watch for that. How long after your transcript showed the refund issued did you get the check?

It came exactly 9 days after the issue date on my transcript. But I've heard it can take up to 2-3 weeks depending on where you live. The IRS doesn't tell you they're switching to a paper check either which is sooooo annoying.

SBTPG has been a NIGHTMARE this year! I'm in the same boat - my refund was issued April 2 according to my transcript but still nothing on SBTPG. Called them 4 times and got different answers everytime. One rep said they rejected my deposit due to "name mismatch" (which made no sense), another said they never received it, and a third said it was "processing". I finally filed a complaint with CFPB and magically my money appeared the next day. Don't wait too long to escalate.

How do you file a complaint with CFPB? might need to do this myself...

Just go to consumerfinance.gov and click "submit a complaint" - super easy and they follow up fast. You want to complain about Santa Barbara TPG specifically, not the IRS.

yo this is why I stopped letting tax prep companies take their fees from my refund. SBTPG is just an extra middleman that makes everything more complicated. Next year just pay the turbotax fee upfront and get your refund straight from the IRS. So much less hassle.

Did you check the WMR (Where's My Refund) tool on the IRS website? Sometimes that will show different info than your transcript. Also is your expected amount exactly what the transcript shows? If theres a discrepancy the IRS might have adjusted your refund which can cause delays.

WMR just shows "still processing" which is super helpful /s. And yes, the amount matches what I calculated in TurboTax.

I've seen posts from ppl having to wait up to a month even after the 846 code. The whole system is a joke. My trace # showed up for like 2 days on SBTPG then disappeared again, then suddenly my money showed up in my account. Makes ZERO sense. Hang in there!

THIS!!! the SBTPG site is garbage. My trace number is there one day, gone the next, then back again with a different date. Pure chaos. 🤡

Have you checked with your bank? Sometimes they'll hold large deposits for review, especially tax refunds. My credit union put a 7-day hold on mine even though SBTPG showed it was sent.

UGH i had this EXACT issue last year. SBTPG is THE WORST. call the IRS directly - ignore SBTPG. In my case, my refund was actually sent to the wrong account (SBTPG had somehow transposed two numbers). The IRS had to recall the funds and reissue my refund which took an extra 6 weeks. Definitely don't wait on SBTPG to figure it out!

6 weeks?? I don't think I can wait that long... this is so frustrating

I feel you! But honestly the sooner you get on the phone with the IRS the better. Every day you wait is another day added to the potential resolution time.

i stopped using turbo tax bcuz of SBTPG. They held my refund for 3 weeks last year for "additional verification" which was complete BS. Just another way for them to hold our money and collect interest. The whole system is designed to screw us over.

Random tip - check if your adjusted gross income matches exactly what you put on your return. If it doesn't, that could trigger a manual review. happened to me and caused a 3-week delay after my 846 date. The IRS website still showed the original date even though the money wasn't actually sent yet.

I had success getting an update by calling the Tax Advocate Service instead of the main IRS line. Much shorter wait times and they have access to the same info. Number is 877-777-4778 if you want to try that route.

Don't waste your time with TAS for a simple refund question. They're backlogged by months and will just tell you to call the regular IRS number anyway. They only help with hardship cases now.

When I had this issue a nice lady at the IRS told me sometimes there's a processing gap between when the IRS issues the refund and when SBTPG actually gets it. Try calling this secret IRS number that's better than the main one: (866) 682-7451 ext 568. Way shorter wait times.

That number doesn't work anymore, they changed their phone system in January. I tried it last week and got an automated message saying the extension doesn't exist.

Question - have you checked the SBTPG site using both mobile and desktop? Their site is janky AF and sometimes shows different info depending on how you access it. On my phone it showed no trace number but on desktop it was there! worth a try

I haven't tried that! Will check on my laptop when I get home. Their mobile site is terrible.
