TPG shows no info but I have 2/26 refund date - what's happening?

Filed my taxes back in early January through TurboTax with fees taken out of refund. My WMR updated yesterday showing a deposit date of February 26th. I checked the SBTPG site to see if they had my money yet, but when I enter my info it says they have no record. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Will my refund still come on the 26th or will it be delayed since TPG doesn't seem to have my information?

This is pretty common. SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) processes refunds for many tax prep companies when you choose to have fees deducted from your refund. Their system often lags behind the IRS updates. If WMR gives you a direct deposit date, that means the IRS has processed your return and scheduled the payment. SBTPG typically receives the funds 1-2 days before your scheduled deposit date, processes their fee deduction, and then forwards the remainder to your bank account. Keep checking the SBTPG site daily - their system will likely update within 24-48 hours of your deposit date. If by the evening of 2/25 there's still no information, then you might want to contact them.

Thank you so much for the explanation! I was gettin worried because I really need this money. Ill keep checking the site.

Can confirm this is accurate. SBTPG was a couple days behind for me last year too but the money still hit my account right on time.

Sometimes SBTPG is down too. Their website is notorious for being flaky when everyone is trying to check at once during tax season.

I went through this exact situation last year. I found this tool called taxr.ai and it was AMAZING for understanding what was happening with my refund. It reads your transcript and explains everything in plain English. I was able to see exactly where my money was in the process, when it was sent to SBTPG, and when it would hit my account. So much better than trying to guess what's happening or decode those confusing transcript codes yourself. I've recommended it to all my friends this year. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It actually does a lot more! You upload your transcript and it analyzes all the codes and dates, explains what each entry means, tells you what's happening with your refund, and gives you a timeline. It even helps identify issues before they become problems. Changed my whole tax experience honestly. No more guessing or stressing! 100% worth checking out.

another "miracle solution" huh? 🙄 seems kinda sus

I get the skepticism, I felt the same way! But after spending weeks confused by my transcript last year, I was desperate. This actually works - it's just software that interprets the IRS codes. Saved me from calling the IRS multiple times. Try it if you want, don't if you don't 🤷‍♀️

After weeks of dealing with this same issue last year, I finally found a way to actually talk to the IRS. Used claimyr.com and got through to a real person in like 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent confirmed my refund was on the way even though SBTPG hadn't updated yet. Talking to a real person at the IRS saved me so much stress - it was the best investment I made to finally get an actual answer instead of guessing what was happening.

How does this work? I've been trying to call the IRS for DAYS.

0 coins

It basically navigates the IRS phone system for you and calls you back when it gets through to an agent. Saves you from sitting on hold forever. The agent I talked to confirmed exactly when SBTPG would get my refund and when it would hit my account.

0 coins

Wait this actually works? The IRS phone system is literal hell. I spent 3 hours on hold last week and got disconnected 😭

0 coins

Yeah man, it works. I was super skeptical but was desperate after trying to call for days. Got a callback with an actual IRS person and sorted everything out in one call. Totally worth it to save hours of my life and my sanity lol

0 coins

sounds too good to be true... what's the catch?

0 coins

No real catch - you pay for the service but considering I was about to take time off work to sit on hold all day, it was worth every penny. The peace of mind knowing exactly what was happening with my refund was priceless honestly.

I had this exact same thing happen with my 1/23 return. WMR had a deposit date but SBTPG showed nothing. Give it another day or two. Mine updated literally a day before my deposit date and then the money hit my account on time.

0 coins

Ok so here's what happenes... when the IRS says they're sending your refund to your bank, they're actually sending it to SBTPG first. Then SBTPG takes out the TurboTax fees you agreed to have taken out of your refund. Then SBTPG sends the remaining amount to your actual bank. That's why theres a delay. Usually SBTPG gets the money 1-2 days before your deposit date, so check tomorrow and it might update then.

0 coins

That makes a lot of sense actually. Thanks for explaining!

0 coins

This is why I always pay the prep fees upfront now. Didn't realize this middle step was adding delays until last year.

0 coins

I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now lol. WMR says I'm getting a deposit on 2/26 too, but SBTPG shows nothing. Last year I remember it took SBTPG a day or two to update after the WMR date showed up. I wouldn't worry unless 2/26 comes and goes with no deposit.

0 coins

Good to know im not alone! Please update me if yours goes through or if SBTPG updates for you.

0 coins

Will do! We're in the same boat so I feel your anxiety. I'm checking SBTPG like every 3 hours lol 🤦‍♀️

0 coins

SBTPG is trash. Their system always lags behind. One year they didnt update at all and I still got my refund on time. Check your transcript if you wanna know for sure where your money is.

0 coins

How do I check my transcript? I've heard about it but never done it before.

0 coins

Go to irs.gov and create an account if you don't have one already. Then request your transcript. It'll have a bunch of codes but look for code 846 with your refund amount - that'll show the date they're sending your money.

0 coins

Those transcript codes are impossible to understand tho. I gave up trying to figure it out last year.

0 coins

Look at taxr.ai - it explains all those confusing codes for you. Saved me hours of googling and stress.

The IRS is sending the refund to SBTPG on the date it says in WMR. Then SBTPG has to process it (take their cut) and send it to your bank. Your bank then has to process the deposit. This can add 1-2 business days to what WMR shows. So even tho WMR says 2/26, realistically your money might hit your account on 2/27 or 2/28. Don't panic if SBTPG doesn't update until the last minute.

0 coins

This is normal!!! I had the same issue last week. My WMR showed a date of 2/19, but SBTPG didn't update until 2/18. The money arrived in my account exactly on the date WMR stated. SBTPG's system is just slow to update..

0 coins

Thank you!! That makes me feel a lot better.

CALL YOUR BANK!!! Sometimes they can see pending deposits before they hit your account. My credit union told me my refund was pending 2 days before it showed on my account, even though SBTPG still showed nothing.

i was in the same situation last year and drove myself crazy checking SBTPG every 5 minutes. Finally I just got help using claimyr.com to reach an IRS agent. Found out everything was fine and the money came through right on time. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone who can actually see whats going on in the system instead of driving yourself nuts refreshing websites.

Claimyr got me through last year too when I couldn't get any answers about my delayed refund. Actually got to talk to a human at the IRS who fixed my issue in minutes.

PROTIP: never pay tax prep fees out of your refund! They charge you extra for that "convenience" AND it adds this extra SBTPG step that just delays everything. Pay the fees when you file and your refund goes straight from IRS to your bank.

0 coins

I learned this the hard way 😩 They charged me like $40 extra just to take their fees out of my refund.

0 coins

100% this. The convenience fee is a ripoff.

SBTPG is always behind. Their site sucks and their customer service is worse. But they eventually get the job done. I remember last year I had a deposit date of 2/14 but SBTPG didn't update until late on 2/13. Money was in my account on 2/14 just like WMR said. Just be patient!

0 coins

i stopped checking SBTPG because it just gives me anxiety. I installed a cash app called Chime that usually deposits funds 2 days early. So WMR might say Feb 26 but with Chime I sometimes get it by the 24th. maybe look into somethin like that for next year?

0 coins

Fun fact: SBTPG makes interest on your money while they're holding it. That's why they don't rush to send it to your bank. The longer they hold everyone's refunds, even for a day or two, the more interest they earn. It's a shady business model but legal unfortunately.

0 coins

This is why I refuse to use them anymore. They're basically making money by sitting on OUR money. 🤬

0 coins

Wait is this true? That's so messed up.

0 coins

Yep, totally true. That's why I recommend everyone pay their filing fees upfront if they can afford to. Cuts out this middleman completely.

Ok hear me out - i had this EXACT SAME PROBLEM and was freaking out. Couldn't get answers anywhere. I finally used this website called taxr.ai that explained my transcript in plain english and told me exactly where my money was. Turns out everything was fine and the funds were already sent to SBTPG even though their site wasn't showing it yet. The tool showed me the exact date the IRS released the funds based on my transcript codes. Saved me so much stress! https://taxr.ai

0 coins

what makes this different from just reading your transcript yourself?

0 coins

Have you tried reading a raw IRS transcript? It's like trying to decode alien language lol. This tool explains every code, tells you what each date means, shows you a timeline, and even predicts what will happen next. Way easier than trying to google every code and piece together what's happening.

0 coins

sigh...this is exaclty why i switched to freetaxusa and just pay the prep fees upfront now. no more dealing with SBTPG and their garbage website that never works during peak times. probably saved me a week of waiting each year by cutting out the middleman.

0 coins

Check your transcript! It will tell you the exact date the IRS sent your refund. If it shows code 846 with date 2/26, that's when the IRS is releasing the money, NOT necessarily when it hits your bank because SBTPG has to process it first. The IRS transcript is always more reliable than any other source.

Last year I couldn't make sense of my transcript at all. This year I used this tool taxr.ai and it explained everything. Made the whole process way less stressful.

Last year I couldn't get any info about my refund and wasted hours trying to reach the IRS. This year I used claimyr.com to get through to a human at the IRS and got all my questions answered in one call. It was so worth it to finally talk to someone who could tell me exactly what was going on.
