Anyone with TurboTax fees and 3/22 DD date showing up on SBTPG yet?
Just checking in with the TPG (TurboTax Payment Gateway) crowd. Has anyone who opted for fees taken out of their refund with a direct deposit date of 3/22 seen their refund hit SBTPG yet? I'm tracking through all available channels since we're PCSing next month and need to budget accordingly. Transcript is updated but SBTPG still shows "unfunded" status on my end.

SBTPG typically updates 24-48 hours prior to the official DDD (Direct Deposit Date) listed on your transcript. Their system processes in batches rather than real-time, which creates inconsistent visibility across different user accounts. I'd recommend checking your SBTPG account status at precisely 12:01am, 6:00am, and 3:00pm as these align with their batch processing schedule. The "unfunded" status will transition to "pending" approximately 24 hours before funds transfer to your designated financial institution.

According to IRM 21.4.1.3 (Refund Inquiry Response Procedures), the processing timeline for refunds with third-party payment processors like SBTPG includes an additional verification step. I was in the same situation last year with a 3/24 DDD. My SBTPG didn't update until literally the morning of my deposit date, but the money still arrived on time. The delay in status updates doesn't necessarily indicate a delay in actual processing.

Wait, so even if SBTPG doesn't show anything, we could still get our money on the DDD? I'm so confused by this whole third-party processor thing. I thought they had to receive it first before sending to our banks?

Isn't that the frustrating part about the whole SBTPG system? They've created this unnecessary middleman position that adds complexity but not value. Have you noticed how banks that receive direct IRS deposits often make funds available early, but SBTPG almost never does? It's because they're maximizing the float time on everyone's money.

This is exactly like when I worked in banking. Third-party processors are like the toll booths on the financial highway - they don't make the road better, they just collect a fee for using it. SBTPG's tracking system is notoriously behind their actual processing.

I think I might be in the same boat as you... I have a 3/22 DDD and paid my TurboTax fees from my refund. I've been checking SBTPG maybe once or twice a day, and it still shows unfunded for me too. I'm a little nervous because I need this money for some urgent bills, but from what I've seen in previous years, sometimes SBTPG doesn't update until very late in the process.

Did you try checking your bank account directly? Sometimes money appears there before SBTPG updates. Happened to me last year.

I had a March 15th deposit date and my SBTPG didn't update until March 14th at 9pm. Money was in my account by 5am on the 15th exactly as scheduled.

Has anyone tried using the SBTPG phone system instead of the website? Sometimes the IRS Where's My Refund tool shows different info than the transcript site, so I wonder if SBTPG's phone system might be more up-to-date than their website?

I had the exact same situation last year, and SBTPG was completely silent while the IRS claimed my refund was sent. It was like being stuck between two systems that don't talk to each other. After three days of calling SBTPG's impossible customer service line with no luck, I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual IRS agent. They confirmed my refund was actually sent to SBTPG already, which gave me leverage when I finally reached SBTPG. Saved me from waiting another week while they "investigated."

I've heard about services like this, but I'm skeptical about paying just to talk to the IRS. In my experience with TPG issues, the problem usually resolves itself within the DDD timeframe anyway. Couldn't you have just waited it out?

Word of caution here - I had a similar situation last year and made the mistake of calling my bank repeatedly about the pending deposit. This actually triggered a fraud alert on my account (too many inquiries about an incoming large deposit apparently looks suspicious), which delayed my refund by another 5 days while they "investigated." 🙄 Sometimes checking too frequently can backfire in unexpected ways. The SBTPG system is frustratingly opaque by design, I suspect.

Most people don't realize that SBTPG operates on a different timeline than the IRS. The community wisdom is that SBTPG usually updates late evening before your DDD. For 3/22 deposits, expect SBTPG to update tonight or early tomorrow morning. Almost everyone gets their money on the actual DDD despite what the tracker shows. This happens every tax season like clockwork.

I've analyzed the patterns from previous years, and there's a clear correlation between transcript cycle codes and SBTPG funding. Returns with cycle code 20230905 typically see SBTPG updates 36 hours before DDD, while 20230805 codes often update within 24 hours of deposit. The variance is likely due to batch processing schedules between different IRS processing centers.
