SBTPG Holding Refund Since Thursday - DDD 3/25 But No Deposit

SBTPG has been holding my refund funds since Thursday (March 21). Direct Deposit Date indicated as 3/25. I've verified my standard banking information is correct on all documentation. As of this morning, no deposit has been initiated. The SBTPG portal shows no trace number associated with the transaction. This delay is particularly concerning as I require these funds for scheduled medical treatment. Has anyone else experienced extended holding periods with SBTPG beyond the DDD timeframe?

Angelica Smith

This happens with SBTPG. They hold funds longer than necessary. Their system batches transfers. Different banks process differently. Call SBTPG directly at their customer service line. Ask specifically about your transfer status. Request a trace number.

When you call SBTPG, follow these steps: 1. Have your personal information ready 2. Ask specifically about the status of your refund 3. Request the exact timeframe for release 4. Get a confirmation number for the call 5. Ask if there's any action needed on your part

I waited exactly 5 days after my DDD of 3/15 before my funds showed up. SBTPG told me they were "processing" for 3 of those days, then took another 2 days to reach my bank. The lack of a trace number is making me a bit nervous about my next refund.

Appreciate the direct approach. Too many people just say "wait longer" without giving actual steps to resolve the issue.

This happened to me last year and I was absolutely panicking! Called them in tears because I needed that money for my kid's medication. The agent was actually really kind and pushed my transfer through same-day once I explained the medical situation. Don't be afraid to tell them if it's urgent for health reasons!

Had the exact same issue on February 15th with my DDD of 2/18. Spent hours trying to reach SBTPG with no luck - constant busy signals. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) on February 20th and got through to them in about 15 minutes. The agent found that my bank had rejected the initial transfer due to a name mismatch (my married name vs maiden name). They fixed it right away and I had my money by February 22nd. Worth the fee to not spend days redialing!

I'm not entirely convinced these call services are worth the cost. Couldn't you just keep calling yourself? I mean, eventually you'll get through, right? Though I suppose if you're in a medical situation like OP, the time savings might be justified.

Wait, they can actually tell you why your bank rejected it? When I called SBTPG directly, they just said "it's processing" and wouldn't give any details! Did you have to ask specific questions to get that information?

I've gone through this exact situation twice now with SBTPG. The first time, I panicked when nothing showed up on my DDD. The second time (this year), I was prepared for the delay. For me, it took exactly 3 business days after the DDD both times. My credit union told me they don't actually see the pending deposit until SBTPG initiates the ACH transfer, which they seem to batch process rather than doing individually on the DDD. Are you checking your bank's pending transactions too, or just the posted ones? Sometimes it sits in pending for 24 hours.

I had a similar issue and used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript which showed the refund was actually sent to SBTPG correctly by the IRS. The problem was on SBTPG's end. The site helped me understand the various transaction codes and confirmed the IRS had completed their part of the process. This let me focus on resolving the issue with SBTPG rather than wasting time with the IRS. You can upload your transcript to https://taxr.ai and it will break down exactly where your money is in the process.

These transcript analyzers are just reading the same information you can see yourself on the IRS website. It's like paying someone to tell you what color shirt you're wearing. The problem here is clearly with SBTPG, not understanding the transcript.

While the issue appears to be with SBTPG in this scenario, analyzing the transcript can actually confirm whether the IRS has properly released the funds to SBTPG, which is comparable to situations I've encountered with other financial institutions. Some banks may claim they haven't received funds when in fact the transaction codes indicate otherwise.

I'm wondering if this is perhaps related to the recent system updates SBTPG implemented? There was some discussion about them changing their processing protocols in early March. Has anyone else noticed longer delays specifically since those changes went into effect?

SBTPG issues are predictable and fixable: • They regularly hold funds 2-5 business days beyond DDD • Lack of trace number means they haven't initiated the ACH yet • Their customer service will give you the runaround until you're persistent • Medical necessity can get you expedited processing • Their system batches transfers instead of processing them individually Don't just wait passively. Call them directly and escalate if necessary.

Thank you for breaking this down so clearly. I'll definitely be more persistent with them.

Per IRS Publication 5027 and the NACHA Operating Rules governing ACH transfers, SBTPG is required to initiate the transfer of funds within 24 hours of receipt from the IRS. However, they frequently utilize the exception clause allowing for "reasonable delay for processing verification" (Section 3.2.1.4). You need to contact them IMMEDIATELY as we're approaching the 5-business-day threshold when you can file a formal complaint with the CFPB. Document all communication attempts and responses. Time is of the essence!

Can you clarify the exact section of the NACHA rules that would apply here? I want to reference it when I call them.

Is filing with the CFPB really effective? How long does that process take to resolve?

I went through the exact same SBTPG nightmare last month! 😂 Called them every day for a week straight. The funny thing is, the day after I threatened to file a CFPB complaint, my money magically appeared in my account. Coincidence? I think not! Seriously though, their system showed my funds as "processing" for 6 days after my DDD. I documented everything meticulously - dates, times, representative names. When I finally got a supervisor on the phone, they admitted they had a processing backlog but expedited my transfer once I explained my situation. Patience and persistence are key here.

Did they give you any kind of case number or confirmation when they expedited it? I'm wondering how to verify they've actually done something versus just telling me they did.
