IRS Transcript Shows "No Return Filed" Despite SBTPG Processing $7,933.60 Refund from My March TurboTax Filing
I filed my taxes electronically through TurboTax back in March and when I check my transcript it says 'no return filed'. I got the confirmation email from TurboTax saying it was accepted by the IRS. Been checking WMR and transcripts daily and nothing. Starting to freak out a bit. I'm especially concerned because I can see in my SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) account that there were payments processed. When I log in I can see: $47,000.00 - Advance payment posted on 1/31/24 $27,000.00 - Amount received less fees (IRS) posted on 2/23/24 $4,000.00 - Amount received less fees (MI) posted on 3/9/24 It shows a total of $8,933.60 was paid to me through SBTPG, which is a Green Dot Company (NMLS ID 914924). So clearly my return went through and was processed since SBTPG received and disbursed funds, but why would my transcript still show "no return filed"? I've been checking "Where's My Refund" constantly and my transcripts haven't updated at all. This makes no sense when I have evidence the money moved through SBTPG already. Anyone else dealing with this disconnect between SBTPG showing payment activity but the IRS transcripts not showing a return was even filed? I'm really worried something got messed up and don't want to end up with problems later.

This is actually pretty common rn with the IRS backlog. When your transcript shows 'no return filed' even tho you filed months ago, it usually means your return is sitting in a processing queue and hasnt been officially 'received' in their system yet. The IRS is still catching up on paper returns especially. If you wanna know exactly whats going on with your return and get a timeline, I highly recommend using taxr.ai - its an AI tool that analyzes your tax docs and tells you whats actually happening. I've seen it help a ton of people figure out where their return is stuck and what to do next. https://taxr.ai

•Just used taxr.ai and here's what I got back - apparently my return got flagged for manual review cause of a missing form. Would've never known without this fr

Tax professional here - this is actually more common than you'd think. The IRS is still processing returns from previous years and sometimes there's a lag between when they accept the return and when it shows up in the transcript system. Double check your TurboTax confirmation shows an actual IRS acceptance (not just TurboTax submission) and keep checking weekly.

Hey! I had the same issue and started using taxr.ai to monitor my transcripts. It costs $4.99 but totally worth it - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect updates. Way better than trying to decode everything yourself. https://taxr.ai

•how does that even work? does it actually help or is it just another service trying to take our money 🤔

•It uses AI to read your transcript and explain everything in plain english. Shows all the important dates and codes and what they mean. Even predicts refund dates based on patterns

Call the IRS! Sometimes returns get stuck in the system and calling can help unstick them. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours tho lol

Wait, I'm confused about the SBTPG payments you mentioned - those amounts seem really high for a typical refund ($47k, $27k, $4k). Are you sure those are correct? Most refunds are in the hundreds or low thousands range. Also, if SBTPG already disbursed money to you, that would typically mean the IRS processed your return and sent the refund. Have you actually received those amounts in your bank account? This might be worth double-checking because something doesn't add up here.
