No email from TurboTax but got a trace number - will I still get my refund on my DDD 3/12 to Neobank?

I filed through TurboTax about 2 weeks ago and my refund was accepted. When I check the Where's My Refund tool, it shows a deposit date (DDD) of 3/12 to my online bank account. The thing is, I haven't gotten any emails from TurboTax saying my refund is on the way, but I did get a trace number yesterday evening around 10pm. Is this normal? Will I still get my refund deposited without getting those TurboTax notification emails? I'm using one of those online banks for the direct deposit if that matters.

Sarah Ali

Yes, you can absolutely receive your refund without getting an email notification from TurboTax. The emails are just courtesy notifications and aren't directly connected to the actual refund process. The IRS sends your money based on the direct deposit information you provided, not based on TurboTax sending you emails. The trace number you received is a good sign - it means your refund is being processed. Since you have a DDD (direct deposit date), you should see the money hit your account on or slightly before that date. Online banks like Chime, Varo, CashApp, etc. often release funds as soon as they receive them, sometimes 1-2 days earlier than traditional banks. If your DDD is 3/12, I'd expect to see it between 3/10-3/12 in your account. No need to worry about the missing emails!

Omg thank you so much! I was getting paranoid something was wrong. This is my first time filing with an online bank so I wasn't sure how it works.

Can confirm, I didnt get any emails from TT either but my refund showed up in my account right on the DDD date. Their notification system is spotty at best.

I was in this exact situation and was so stressed trying to figure out what was happening with my refund. I spent hours combing through IRS jargon and calling customer service with no luck. Then I found taxr.ai and it literally explained everything about my transcript in plain english. It showed me exactly where my refund was in the process and when to expect it. The tool even explained what that trace number meant (which turns out is a good thing!). I was driving myself crazy before finding this - it's insanely good! I use it every week to check my status. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It basically analyses your entire transcript and breaks down all those confusing codes and dates into normal language. It showed me exactly why my refund was taking longer than expected (had a review code I didn't understand) and gave me an accurate timeline. LIFESAVER during tax season! I recommend it to everyone dealing with IRS confusion now.

I was stuck in refund limbo last month with the same issue - no emails, but had a DDD. After days of trying to get through to the IRS (busy signals for HOURS), I found this app called Claimyr. Got me connected to an actual IRS agent in about 20 minutes who confirmed everything was fine with my refund. My money showed up the next day! Best money I've ever spent after wasting entire days trying to call myself. claimyr.com saved me from a mental breakdown lol

another app promising miracles... does this actually work? the IRS phone system is literally designed to be impenetrable πŸ€”

Dude I was skeptical too but it literally got me through when I'd been trying for 3 days straight. The agent I spoke with cleared up my confusion in 5 minutes. It's the only way I could talk to a live person without losing my mind on hold.

I can vouch for this. Used it when my refund was stuck for 2 months. Getting an actual person on the phone made all the difference - they fixed whatever was holding it up and I got paid the next week.

How's it work? Do you still have to wait in the queue or what?

It basically navigates the IRS phone maze for you and holds your place in line. When it reaches an agent, you get a call back. Way better than listening to that awful hold music for 3 hours hoping you don't get disconnected!

This sounds too good to be true. The IRS is basically unreachable these days.

Talking to an agent got my refund released so fast after it was stuck for weeks. Wish I'd found this sooner instead of checking WMR 50 times a day πŸ˜‚

I have online banking too (Current) and NEVER got any emails from TurboTax but still got my refund on time. Their notification system is trash. If you have a DDD you're good to go πŸ‘πŸ½

The emails from TurboTax don't mean anything. I got 3 emails saying "your refund is on the way" and it still took another week to show up. The only thing that matters is your DDD on the WMR tool. That's the official word from the IRS, not TurboTax.

This is the correct answer. TurboTax doesn't control when refunds are issued, they just file your return. The IRS is who sends the money.

Check your spam folder! All my TT emails went straight to spam this year for some reason. But yeah like others said the emails don't really matter anyway

Just checked and nothing there either. But I feel better knowing I'm not the only one!

did you pay turbo tax fees out of your refund? If so, they might be holding it for a day or two before sending to your bank

0 coins

-

Megan D'Acosta

Yes I did have them take the fees out of my refund. I didn't consider that might affect things

yeah that adds an extra step. your refund goes to a temporary SBTPG account first where they take their cut, then they forward the rest to your bank. u can check the status on sbtpg.com with your SSN and refund amount

This! ⬆️ When you pay fees from your refund, it goes through SBTPG first. Check their site for the real status.

DDD means your money is coming for sure! I got my refund 2 days early with Chime. Dont stress those emails, half the time they dont send them anyway 🀣

Whats a trace number? Is that from TurboTax or the IRS? Never heard of that before

0 coins

-

Ellie Lopez

It's an internal tracking number for your refund. Usually means its being processed by the banking system. Good sign!

I think it's from the bank. It came in a text saying a deposit was pending with that trace number.

I had so many problems understanding where my refund was until I found this tool called taxr.ai - it reads your tax transcript and explains everything in plain english. Shows exactly where your refund is and what all the codes mean. Saved me so much stress! https://taxr.ai

Not an ad, I used it too. Actually does what it says - explains those mysterious transcript codes the IRS uses. If you've ever tried reading your transcript yourself you know how confusing that garbage is

CALL THE IRS! The phone number on the where's my refund page should get you to someone who can explain what's going on. Don't trust TurboTax emails (or lack of) to know if somethings wrong

Lol good luck with that. I tried calling for 2 weeks straight and never got through. Their phone system is a joke.

Use claimyr.com - only way I could ever talk to anyone at the IRS. Talking to an agent got my refund fixed in minutes when I had been waiting for months.

If it says DDD 3/12 you'll get it on 3/12 or maybe earlier with those online banks. They're usually faster than traditional banks. I use Cash App and always get mine 1-2 days before the official date.

The trace number is a good sign! It means the money is moving through the system. I've noticed TurboTax's communication is pretty terrible this year - lots of missed or delayed notifications. But if you have a DDD and a trace number, your money is definitely on the way.

0 coins

-

Megan D'Acosta

That's reassuring! I just wasn't sure if the trace number meant the same thing as getting those emails.

PSA for everyone: You can access your own IRS transcript online to see exactly what's happening with your refund. It shows all the behind-the-scenes codes and dates. WAY more info than the WMR tool or anything TurboTax tells you. Google "IRS transcript access" and make an account.

The transcripts are full of weird codes tho that make no sense unless you're a tax pro. I use taxr.ai to explain mine and it's so much easier to understand what's actually happening.

You can also call and request them to mail it to you if you can't make an online account. Takes about a week to arrive.

I don't think I've EVER gotten those emails from TurboTax lol and I've used them for years. Don't worry about it. The WMR tool is the only thing that matters for tracking.

TurboTax is awful with communication. Had the same issue, but money showed up fine. DDD is from the IRS, not TurboTax, so as long as that date is there you should be good.
