Turbo Tax showing "Your refund has arrived" update but nothing in bank account yet

Has anyone else noticed that TurboTax updated their status to "Your refund has arrived" but there's no money in your bank account? I filed back in June and my transcript shows a deposit date of September 14th. Been checking my bank account like crazy since then but nothing has shown up yet. It's already September 17th. When I log into TurboTax it says my refund has arrived but my bank account says otherwise. Is this normal? How long after the TurboTax update did yall actually receive your funds?

Mila Walker

This happens fairly often with TurboTax. Their system basically just tracks the IRS transcript dates and automatically updates based on that schedule, not when the money actually hits your account. Check your transcript for code 846 - that's the actual refund issued code. If that date has passed and you haven't received the money, there could be a few explanations: 1. Your bank is holding the funds for 1-2 business days (common with larger refunds) 2. The refund was offset to pay other government debts (student loans, back taxes, etc) 3. The IRS sent a check instead of direct deposit (happens if bank info was incorrect) 4. There was a last-minute processing issue Give it until the end of this week. If nothing arrives by then, call the IRS refund hotline at 800-829-1954 to check status.

Thanks for all the detail! My transcript definitely has the 846 code with the 9/14 date. No debts that I know of and I double-checked my bank info. Guess I'll wait till the end of the week before panicking!

I had the EXACT same issue last year. The money showed up 4 days after the deposit date. Apparently weekends don't count in IRS world 🙄

dont forget some banks hold it for fraud review especially if its a big refund. mine did that last year and i had to call them to release it

I was in this same situation last month. After days of confusion, I finally used taxr.ai to actually understand what was happening with my transcript. Saved me so much headache! It translated all the codes and explained exactly why my refund was delayed (had a random review flag). The tool showed me the exact path my return was taking through the IRS system and predicted when I'd get paid within 1 day accuracy. Seriously, it's crazy how much clearer everything became. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read it! It actually analyzes your specific situation, explains what each code means for YOU specifically (not just generic definitions), predicts timelines, identifies issues, and gives actual next steps. Like having an IRS agent explain your file personally. Completely changed my understanding of what was happening with my taxes. I recommend it to everyone now.

seems sus tbh. is this just another scam trying to get our personal info?

I felt the same way at first! But no, you just upload your transcript PDF and it analyzes it right there. Been using it for the past few returns and it's been a game changer. Finally understanding what all those random codes actually mean instead of guessing or getting wrong info from reddit 💯

After dealing with this same issue and getting nowhere with TurboTax support, I finally got through to a real IRS agent using claimyr.com. The agent told me exactly why my refund was delayed (there was a discrepancy they found but never notified me about). The IRS phone system is impossible to navigate but this service got me a callback from an agent within hours. Best money I've spent all year considering they helped me get my $3800 refund unstuck!

Is this for real? I've been trying to get through to the IRS for 3 weeks now...

100% real. I was skeptical too but after wasting 4+ hours on hold and getting disconnected twice, I was desperate. They basically navigate the phone tree for you and secure a callback spot. Agent called me back same day and resolved my issue in 15 minutes.

how much does it cost? sounds too good to be true

Worth every penny considering I was about to give up on getting my refund at all. Think about how much your time is worth - sitting on hold for hours vs getting a guaranteed callback?

My refund finally hit my account 3 business days after TurboTax showed that message. Banks don't process deposits on weekends so that might be the delay for you.

Dude this happned to me too!! TurboTax showed refund arrived on Thursday but I didn't actually get it until Tuesday. Something about bank processing times. Super annoying but it eventually came through.

That's reassuring to hear! Was worried something went wrong with my return.

Yeah no worries. The IRS and these tax prep companies never seem to be on the same page. I swear they do this on purpose to give us all anxiety 🤣

Check to see if you have any offsets - like child support, student loans, or back taxes. My "refund" got intercepted and applied to an old tax debt I didn't even know about. IRS never tells you this btw, just silently takes it and leaves you checking your bank account like a crazy person.

How do I check for offsets? I'm pretty sure I don't have any debts but who knows what the IRS thinks 😬

Call the Treasury Offset Program at 1-800-304-3107. You'll need your SSN but they can tell you if any part of your refund was taken for debts. Otherwise, might just be bank processing time.

THE SAME EXACT THING IS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!!! Filed April, got "refund arrived" update yesterday but nothing in my account. Called my bank and they said they don't see any pending deposits either. This tax season has been a complete disaster 😡

Sometimes they send a check even if you requested direct deposit. Happened to me when I changed banks. Check your mailbox for the next week or so just in case.

ive seen this question like 20 times this month lol. TurboTax just uses the scheduled date from the IRS system and assumes it happened. it has NOTHING to do with whether the money actually hit your account. usually takes 2-3 business days after the IRS date for banks to process.

This is 100% correct. I used to work at a bank. ACH transfers take time to process, especially from government entities. The system is ancient.

After spending months trying to understand why my refund was delayed last year (transcript had weird codes I didn't understand), I found taxr.ai and it was a LIFESAVER. It analyzed my transcript, explained exactly what was happening with my return, and even predicted when I'd get my refund within 2 days accuracy. Seriously, stop playing detective with your transcript and just use this tool.

do they charge tho? or is it free

There is a cost but considering I spent literally weeks trying to figure out what was happening with my refund before finding this, it was totally worth it to finally understand what was going on. Saved me so much stress!

Turbotax dont know shit. Their system just pulls data from IRS and guesses. My refund took 6 days after the 846 date on my transcript to hit my bank. The IRS is a mess this year.

For everyone struggling to reach the IRS on the phone (and waiting hours just to be disconnected), I found a solution with claimyr.com. Got a callback from an IRS agent in under 2 hours after trying for weeks on my own. Agent explained that my refund was delayed because of a mismatch on my W2 that nobody bothered to tell me about. Got it resolved and refund arrived a week later.

Lol I get how it sounds but when you've been waiting 5 months for a refund and finally get it unstuck, you get pretty evangelical about what worked. The IRS phone system is literally designed to make you give up.

They legit do work tho. I was skeptical but tried it after reading about it here. Got my injured spouse form issue resolved after months of nothing.

Did you check your transcript for any TC 570/971 codes? Those indicate a hold on your refund that needs to be resolved. if you only see 846 with the 9/14 date, then its prolly just bank processing time. but if you see other codes, you might have an issue.

-

Ethan Clark

Just double-checked - only see the 846 code with the 9/14 date so hopefully that means it's just taking its sweet time to process 🤞
