Filed with TurboTax, DDD 4/15 with refund advance - anyone received theirs yet?
Filed my taxes through TurboTax in early March and opted for the refund advance. Got an accepted email within 48 hours. I checked my transcript yesterday and noticed I have a direct deposit date of 4/15. Has anyone who used TurboTax with the advance option received their refund yet? My status on the Where's My Refund tool still shows as 'approved' but the money hasn't hit my account. Starting to get nervous since I've got some bills coming due next week that I was counting on this money for.

I'm a tax preparer and see this situation frequently. If you got a refund advance through TurboTax, they typically deduct their fees from your actual refund when it arrives. The IRS sends your refund to a temporary bank account first, TurboTax takes their cut, then forwards the remainder to you. This process can add 1-2 business days after your DDD. Since your DDD is 4/15 and today is 4/15, I'd expect it by 4/17 at the latest. The Where's My Refund tool won't show any updates during this intermediary transfer, so that's normal. If you don't see it by Thursday, contact TurboTax support directly as they can track where your money is in their system.

•Thanks for explaining! I didn't realize there was that extra step with the temporary account. I'll give it until Thursday before I start making calls.

•this is why I always file direct with the IRS and avoid those 3rd party services taking a cut of MY money 😤

•That's a valid approach too! Each method has pros and cons. Direct filing is definitely cheaper but some people need the advance or value the convenience.

•I filed with TurboTax too and my DDD was 4/12, money showed up yesterday (4/14). Took 2 business days exactly.

•That's reassuring to hear! Hopefully mine follows the same timeline.

I was in a similar position last month with trying to figure out my refund status. I tried using the WMR tool and checking my transcript but kept getting confused by all the codes and dates. Finally used taxr.ai and it was a GAME CHANGER. It explained exactly what was happening with my return, when I could expect my refund, and explained all those cryptic codes in plain English. Saved me so much stress! Here's the link if you want to check it out: https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's amazing! It reads your transcript and explains EVERYTHING in simple terms. It also identified an issue with my return that I would have never caught - showed exactly why my refund was delayed and what the actual issue was. Seriously the best tool I've found for dealing with IRS stuff. I tell everyone about it now.

•another sketchy service promising to 'help' with tax problems... is this actually legit? 🤔

•I was skeptical at first too tbh. But after using it myself, it ABSOLUTELY is worth it. Way better than spending hours on IRS phone lines or trying to decode transcript codes yourself. The peace of mind alone was worth it for me.

I was waiting FOREVER on my refund (used H&R Block with a similar situation) and couldn't get anyone on the phone at the IRS. Tried for weeks and kept getting the 'high call volume' message. Finally found Claimyr.com and they got me a callback from an actual IRS agent within an hour! The agent was able to release my refund that had been sitting in limbo. Talking to a real person at the IRS made all the difference - can't recommend it enough.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? seems too good to be true after all the hours I've wasted trying to talk to someone

•100% works. I was so frustrated after spending literal DAYS trying to get through on the phone. Claimyr had an IRS agent calling ME back in like 45 minutes. Best money I've ever spent considering how much of my refund was just sitting there not being processed.

•Man I get the skepticism. I was exactly the same way. Had tried EVERYTHING to get through. But this actually worked. My refund was released 2 days after I finally got to talk to someone. Do what you want but I'm just sharing what worked for me after weeks of frustration 🤷♂️

This happens EVERY year with these tax prep services and ppl still use them 🤦♀️ They're basically giving you a loan against your refund and charging you for it. Plus adding extra steps to getting YOUR money. Next year just file direct with IRS and do direct deposit to your own bank!

•Yeah I'm definitely rethinking my approach for next year. Seemed convenient at the time but now I'm just stressed waiting.

•Some people don't have a choice tho. When u need money immediately and have kids to feed, that advance looks pretty good.

•True, I get that. Just wish there were better options that didn't take advantage of ppl in tough spots.

Call them!!! I was in the exact same boat, DDD of 4/8, nothing by 4/12. I called TurboTax and turns out they had a "verification issue" they never bothered to tell me about! Had to confirm some info and then they released it same day. Don't just wait around.

DDD means the IRS has released the funds. Now TurboTax has to process it. Check your TurboTax account login to see if there's a status update there. They should show where in the process your refund is. Most of my clients see their funds 1-3 days after the DDD when using a tax preparer's advance/loan option.

•Thanks for the tip! Just checked my TT account and it says "refund received, processing payment" so I guess that's good news.

This happned to me too. Ur money is probably sitting at Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG) - they're the bank TurboTax uses to process refunds. You can create an account on their website to track it. Google "SBTPG TurboTax" and you'll find it. Took mine 3 days after DDD to show up in my actual bank.

•Thank you!!! Just checked SBTPG and it shows my refund was received today and is being processed. This is super helpful!

the irs is such a clown show. same thing happened to me but with h&r block. had a ddd of 3/29, didn't get my money till 4/3. called them every day and got different answers each time. one person said it was sent, another said it was still processing, another one blamed my bank. FINALLY got someone helpful who tracked it down. turns out h&r held it for "additional verification" whatever tf that means 🙄

•It's not actually the IRS in this case - it's the tax prep companies adding extra steps

Did you opt for the Refund Advance loan or just to have your fees taken out of your refund? Those are two different things and affect timing differently.

LongPeri
•I got the advance where they give you part of your refund right away. I received that portion already in March, now just waiting on the rest.

Faith Kingston
•Ok that makes sense then. They already fronted you part of the money, so now they're waiting to recoup that from the IRS plus take their fees before sending you the remainder. That always takes extra time.

I'm never using TurboTax again after this year. Had so many problems, customer service was useless, and I found out later they charged me $89 for something I could've done for free. Next year I'm going with FreeTaxUSA.

Yeah turbotax typically takes 1-3 extra business days after DDD to process. they really dont make that clear when u sign up and it sucks when ur counting on that money. hang in there

My situation was different from yours, but I had a ton of issues with my refund being delayed this year. I was getting desperate after waiting for months with no updates, so I finally tried taxr.ai after seeing it recommended here. It analyzed my transcript and explained exactly why my refund was delayed (something about a random review flag) and gave me a realistic timeline. Super helpful when the IRS website was giving me zero info. The site is https://taxr.ai if you want to check your situation.

•No catch - it just explains what's actually happening with your taxes in plain English instead of IRS-speak. Saved me HOURS of research and stress. My refund came through exactly when it predicted too.

Last year I waited 8 months for my refund, so 2 extra days is nothing lol. But seriously, check with TurboTax directly - sometimes they hold funds for "security verification" and don't bother to tell you.

•Random audit + amended return + identity verification. Complete nightmare. Needed that money for a down payment too. When I finally got someone on the phone at IRS they fixed it in like 5 minutes. Most frustrating experience of my life.

Pro tip from someone who's been there: check your account on SBTPG.com - that's the bank TurboTax uses to process refunds. You can create an account with your SSN and refund amount to track exactly where your money is. Much more accurate than the WMR tool or TurboTax's own tracker.

SBTPG (TurboTax's bank) is holding your money. They receive it from IRS, take out the fees and loan amount, then send the rest to you. Usually takes 1-2 business days after DDD. If it gets to be Thursday with no deposit, call them directly at 800-901-6663.

I spent DAYS trying to get through to the IRS about a similar issue (though mine was more complicated - had a freeze code on my account). Finally used Claimyr.com and got an actual IRS agent to call me back in less than an hour. They fixed my issue on the spot and my refund was processed right away. Saved me so much frustration.

•I've been trying to reach the IRS for weeks and keep getting the high call volume message. Did you seriously get a callback that fast? How does it work?

•It was amazing! I'd been trying for WEEKS too. The Claimyr system navigates all the IRS phone menus and holds your place in line. Then when they get to an agent, you get a call connecting you directly. No more listening to that horrible hold music for hours just to get disconnected. It was the best thing I've done - talking to an actual human at the IRS solved my issue immediately.

•I was skeptical too, but after wasting literally DAYS of my life trying to get through on my own, I was desperate. It worked exactly as promised - had an IRS agent on the phone within 45 minutes. My refund that had been stuck for months was released 2 days later.
