IRS identity verification nightmare: Tips to reach a human agent?

Has anyone else had trouble with identity verification? I've been trying to get through to someone for days now. The automated system is a nightmare and I can't seem to get a real person on the line. It's so frustrating! I'm worried about my benefits being delayed because of this. Any advice on how to actually talk to a human being?

I found a way to solve identity verification delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6EVcZwFRTc

Guys, I know it's tough, but hang in there. I finally got my identity verified after 3 months of trying. It WILL happen eventually. Don't give up hope! ❤️

Thank you for the encouragement! It feels like it'll never end.

Ugh, same boat here. 🙄 I've been calling non-stop for like 2 weeks straight. It's ridiculous how understaffed they are. Maybe try calling right when they open? That's what worked for me eventually.

Thanks for the tip! What time do they open? I'll set my alarm and give it a shot tomorrow morning.

They open at 8am I think. Good luck! Let us know if it works for you.

I tried calling at 8 am and still couldn't get through. Any other suggestions?

Has anyone tried contacting their local representative? I've heard sometimes they can help push things through faster.

I hadn't thought of that. How would I go about doing that?

Just google your district and "state representative". Most have a contact form on their website. Explain your situation and they might be able to help!

This actually worked for me once. They can sometimes help expedite the process.

Have you tried uploading your documents online? Sometimes that works and you don't even need to talk to anyone. Just a thought!

I tried that first actually. It's been weeks and still no update. That's why I'm trying to call now. 😩

Aw man, that sucks. Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Hope you get through soon!

I had the same issue with uploading documents. It seems their system is quite slow in processing online verifications.

yall ever think about how we're all just clowns in the EDD circus? 🤡 honk honk, time to jump through more hoops for our benefits!

Listen up, folks. I've been dealing with EDD for YEARS and I've learned all the tricks. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call exactly at 8:01 AM. Not 8:00, not 8:02. 8:01. 2. If you get the "too many callers" message, hang up and redial immediately. 3. When you get through, choose the option for "employer questions" even if you're not an employer. 4. If they try to transfer you, politely insist that you need to speak with someone about identity verification. 5. Be super nice to the rep. They deal with angry people all day. 6. Have ALL your docs ready before the call. Trust me, this method has worked for me multiple times. It's not foolproof, but it increases your chances significantly. Good luck!

This is gold! 💯 Thanks for sharing your wisdom, gonna try this tomorrow morning.

Wait, isn't it kinda unethical to choose the employer option if you're not an employer? 🤔

@profile 10 I get where you're coming from, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The system is broken, we're just trying to navigate it.

I think it's not ideal, but sometimes you have to be creative given the circumstances.

I feel your pain, OP. The identity verification process is a total mess rn. I spent weeks trying to get through. Keep calling and eventually you'll get lucky. It sucks but that's the only way I know.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

$20?! That's crazy. We shouldn't have to pay to talk to someone about our benefits. The system is so broken.

I get the skepticism, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did it take for them to call you back?

I've actually used Claimyr before and it worked for me too. Only thing is, sometimes there's a bit of a delay if they're particularly busy.

Unpopular opinion: maybe if we all stopped trying to game the system and just waited our turn, things would move faster for everyone. Just sayin' 🤷‍♂️

While I understand your perspective, the system isn't efficient and people are just trying to survive.

pro tip: if u get someone on the line who cant help, ask them to transfer u instead of hanging up. sometimes u can bypass the whole phone tree that way

I've done this too. Sometimes the reps are willing to help you find the right person.

I swear the EDD website was designed by a team of drunk monkeys. How is it possible for a government website to be THIS bad in 2023? 🤦‍♀️
