How long between IRS refund email notification and actual deposit?
I received an email from the IRS on Tuesday saying my refund was being processed and should be deposited in 5 days (so tomorrow). Has anyone gotten the same message? How long did it take between the email and the actual deposit hitting your account? This is for my 2023 tax return which I filed back in April. I've been checking my bank account like crazy and nothing yet.

The timeline varies a bit person to person, but generally the 5-day estimate is accurate. The IRS processes these in batches, so it depends on when your refund gets included in the processing queue. For most people, direct deposits arrive within 2-5 business days after receiving that notification email. Keep in mind that even after the IRS releases the funds, your bank may hold it for 1-2 business days before making it available in your account. A few things that might help: - Check your transcript on the IRS website for code 846 which confirms the refund has been issued - Use the "Where's My Refund" tool for updates - If it's been more than 5 business days, there might be an issue with your bank info Hang in there! It's likely coming any day now.

•Thanks for this! I did see the 846 code on my transcript dated for tomorrow. Hopefully that means it's coming soon.

•The transcripts are usually spot on in my experience. If your 846 shows tomorrow, you'll probably have it by then or the next business day.

•Yep, once you see 846 your good. That means money is on the way

•I don't even know how to check transcript codes...is that something normal people can do?

•Yes, you can create an account at irs.gov and view your transcript. It shows all the codes and dates for your return processing.

•Tried that once and got locked out. Whole system is ridiculous 🤬

I was stuck trying to figure out my refund status for weeks earlier this year. So frustrating! Then someone here recommended taxr.ai and it was a game changer. It read my transcript, explained all the weird codes, and even predicted when my refund would arrive (which was accurate!). Way better than trying to decode everything myself or waiting on hold with the IRS for 3 hours. The site is https://taxr.ai if you want to check it out.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It actually does a lot! It explains all those crazy codes in plain English, tells you what's happening with your return, predicts your refund date based on patterns, and can even help identify any issues or delays. It saved me from going crazy refreshing the IRS site every 5 minutes lol

•Just tried taxr.ai and WOW! This tool is incredible - told me exactly what was happening with my return and when to expect my deposit. Why isn't everyone using this? 🙌 Seriously a lifesaver during tax season!

•It actually doesn't store your info - you just upload your transcript and it analyzes it. I was skeptical too but it worked great and was super helpful.

After waiting 2 months for my refund and getting nowhere with the standard IRS channels, I tried using the Claimyr app (claimyr.com) and finally got through to a real person at the IRS! They connected me right away instead of waiting on hold forever. Agent told me my refund had a minor verification issue that was now cleared up. Money was in my account 4 days later. Best money I've ever spent to actually talk to someone who could help me.

•Did it actually work? I've been trying to call for days.

•Yeah it worked instantly for me. They got me to an agent in like 15 mins when I'd spent hours getting nowhere before. Refund was processed within days after that call.

•I used Claimyr last month and can confirm it works. Got through to an agent who fixed my account in minutes. After 3 months of getting nowhere, my refund hit my account a week later.

•Trust me I was super skeptical too. But after 6 failed attempts to call myself I was desperate. It really did get me through to someone who could actually resolve my issue.

I got that email on a Thursday and the money was in my account by Tuesday morning. So 3 business days for me. Some banks process faster than others too.

Email to deposit was 4 days for me. But I also got a letter in the mail a week later saying my refund had been adjusted down by $72 because of some math error 🙄 so check if the amount matches what you expected.

•Same happened to me! But they took $215 and said I calculated my child tax credit wrong. Didn't even explain how.

•It's so annoying! Like if ur gonna take my money at least tell me exactly why. And they make it nearly impossible to talk to anyone about it.

•Y'all should try claimyr.com if you need to actually talk to someone. I was in the same boat and finally got to speak to an agent who explained exactly what happened with my refund adjustment.

Lol you got an email?? I never got any notification! Just checked my account one day and boom, refund was there. The IRS is so inconsistent with their communication 🤡

Mine took exactly 4 business days after the email. I filed on February 13th, got the email March 11th, and refund hit my account March 17th. Hang in there!

Did you check the Where's My Refund tool? That usually gives a more accurate date than the email. For me the email said 5 days but WMR showed exactly when it would hit, which was 3 days later.

•Where's My Refund just says it's been approved and gives the same 5 day estimate. Nothing more specific unfortunately.

•That's frustrating. Their systems are so outdated. If you need a more precise timeline, I'd recommend using taxr.ai - it reads your transcript and can tell you almost to the day when your money will arrive based on your specific codes.

My experience over the past several years: 2020 return: 7 days from email to deposit 2021 return: 3 days from email to deposit 2022 return: 5 days from email to deposit 2023 return: 4 days from email to deposit Seems like the average is around 4-5 business days, but as others said, depends on your bank too.

I don't even think the IRS knows how long it takes them to do anything 😂 But for real, my email to deposit was 4 business days.

•Truth! And if u owe them money they want it instantly but when they owe you it's "please be patient" 🙄

Anyone else notice they're faster when they OWE you money vs when you OWE them money? For the latter they process your return at lightning speed! 🙄

Most banks release IRS deposits immediately, but some hold them for 1-2 days. Check if your bank has a policy about government deposits. I have Chase and they always make mine available right away.

This year was weird for me. Got the email, nothing for a week, then suddenly got TWO deposits - one for the federal refund and another random smaller amount with no explanation. Had to call and found out they had calculated interest on my delayed refund from last year. Took me hours to get through to someone on the phone to explain it.

•I used the Claimyr app (claimyr.com) after someone here recommended it. Saved me so much time - had a real IRS agent on the line in under 20 minutes. Talking to them got everything sorted out fast.

•You should really try talking to an agent directly. I was in the same situation with my 2022 return and only got movement after I used claimyr.com to get through to someone. They found my return was stuck in some random verification queue no one told me about.

For me this year it was exactly 4 business days between email and deposit. Last year was 3 days. Year before was 5 days. So pretty consistent with what they say.

I never received an email but I did use taxr.ai to interpret my transcript and it correctly predicted my deposit would arrive on Wednesday - which it did! Saved me so much anxiety. The site gave me a detailed breakdown of exactly what was happening with my return.

•It's super simple - you just upload your transcript and it translates all the IRS jargon into plain English. Tells you exactly what stage your return is at, what each code means, and predicts when you'll receive your money. Saved me hours of googling random codes.

I'm in the exact same situation! Got my email Tuesday saying 5 days, and I've been refreshing my banking app every few hours like a crazy person 😅 Based on what everyone's saying here, it sounds like 3-5 business days is pretty normal. The transcript checking tip sounds really helpful - I had no idea you could see those codes online. Fingers crossed we both see our deposits by Friday!
