ID Verification Timeline - Early Direct Deposit Question
Last year I verified my identity on a Tuesday and got a direct deposit date that Friday for the following week. Crossing my fingers for the same timeline this year! 🤞 Just completed in-person verification today. I also paid extra for the 5-day early deposit feature with my bank (business expenses adding up and cash flow is tight, so every day counts lol). Anyone know if the early deposit thing still works when it's a tax refund? Or does the IRS have some weird rule about that? Trying to plan my next few weeks of expenses.

The verification-to-deposit timeline you experienced last year is somewhat typical, though it's important to note that IRS processing times can vary considerably depending on several factors. In most cases, after successful identity verification, you might see transcript updates within approximately 2-9 business days, followed by a direct deposit date assignment. Regarding your early deposit feature, this would likely still apply, as it's generally a function of your bank's policies rather than IRS restrictions. Your bank essentially fronts you the money when they receive the ACH notification, typically a few days before the scheduled deposit date.

Did you verify through ID.me online or did you have to go to a Taxpayer Assistance Center? I'm so worried because I had to schedule an in-person appointment and I'm afraid it'll take FOREVER to process after verification! 😫

The verification process is like being stuck in a maze where the exit keeps moving! Did your transcript update right after verification or was there a delay? I've been refreshing mine like it's social media.

I verified in person on March 3rd, 2024 and saw my transcript update on March 7th. Got my direct deposit exactly one week later on March 14th. The in-person verification actually seemed faster than when I did the online method last year, which took almost 3 weeks to process.

Verification timelines vary. No standard process. Each case different. I track all my tax stuff with taxr.ai now. Shows real-time transcript changes. Predicts deposit dates accurately. Helped me understand my 971 codes last month. Didn't expect such a detailed breakdown. Worth checking out: https://taxr.ai

Be aware that the Refund Anticipation Period (RAP) has specific constraints during the current processing cycle! If your Cycle Code ends in 05, you MUST monitor your Account Transcript for the 846 Refund Issued code, as this indicates the specific DDD (Direct Deposit Date). Verification completion does NOT guarantee immediate processing - internal review protocols may still apply post-verification!

I went through this exact situation. Verified identity. Waited three weeks. Nothing happened. Called IRS. They said verification was complete but return was in a separate review queue. Had to wait another two weeks. Total time from verification to deposit was 35 days. Different department handles each step.

OMG the verification process is such a pain! Had the same issue last yr, waited FOREVER on hold trying to confirm everything was good. Finally found Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and they got me thru to an actual IRS agent in like 20 mins? Saved me hours of redial hell. Def worth it if u need to check ur verification status or if something's holding up ur refund. Anyone else try this service?

I've been in your exact position with the early deposit feature! What I found works better is setting up direct deposit with a credit union instead of a traditional bank. I switched to my local credit union last year and they consistently post government deposits 2-3 days earlier than the official date without charging any fees. Saved me about $75 in early deposit fees over the year, which I used to treat myself to a nice dinner after tax season was over!

The Post-Verification Processing Protocol typically completes within 9 business days for standard returns. I verified on February 18th and received my refund exactly 8 business days later. The system follows a sequential verification validation where your information transitions through three distinct processing queues: identity confirmation, return validation, and refund authorization. Your early deposit feature will function normally once the 846 code appears on your transcript, as this indicates the Treasury has scheduled the ACH transfer to your financial institution.

I've gone through in-person verification three years in a row now. In 2022, it took 14 days from verification to deposit. In 2023, it was 9 days. This year (2024), I verified on February 28th and had my refund by March 6th - only 7 days. The early deposit feature with your bank should work fine - I've used similar services with Bank of America and Capital One in previous years. The refund appears as soon as the ACH notification hits your bank, regardless of the official deposit date.
