Filed 2/1, ID Verification Complete - Timeline for Federal Refund?

Filed my federal on Feb 1st and got accepted same day. No movement since then, but already received my state refund. Got a verification letter in the mail Saturday and called today to get everything sorted out. How long will it typically take to get my federal refund now that verification is complete? PCS season is coming up and we could really use those funds for the move. Will they prioritize since I'm military? Is there a way to check if it's moving forward now?

According to the IRS refund timeline guidelines, you should see movement within 9 weeks from verification completion. Check the WMR tool daily at https://www.irs.gov/refunds - it usually updates overnight between 3-5am EST. The verification hold (CP01) can add 30-60 days to normal processing time, but now that you've completed it, the clock starts TODAY. Don't wait! If you don't see updates within 3 weeks, you need to call again before the backlog gets worse!

Think of your tax return like a plane in a holding pattern. It was circling the airport (IRS) waiting for clearance to land. Your verification call was that clearance, and now it's on the runway ready for final approach. Most returns land (process) within 2-3 weeks after verification, but occasionally there's additional air traffic (backlog). The good news is you're now in active processing instead of just waiting in the verification queue. Deep breath - you're on the right track now.

I had the exact same situation last month. Got the verification letter, called in, but then couldn't reach anyone when I needed to follow up. Spent 4 hours on hold before getting disconnected. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my verification was processed and my refund was released a week later. For military families, they seemed to understand the urgency - mentioned it to the agent and they were super helpful.

• Is this service actually reliable? • Sounds like another paid service taking advantage of a broken system • How much does it cost? • Couldn't you just keep calling the regular number? • I'm wary of giving any third party my information

It's legit. Used it myself. They don't access your tax info. Just connect you to IRS phone system. Bypasses the hold time. Worth every penny during PCS season. Military discount available too.

I just went through this Identity Verification Process (IVP) last month and was surprised by the complexity. After completing the TPV (Taxpayer Protection Verification), my return entered the RPS (Return Processing Stream) within 72 hours. The system then initiated a 570 hold code followed by a 571 release code on my transcript approximately 9 days later. Direct deposit hit my account exactly 8 days after the 571 code appeared. I wasn't expecting such a systematic approach after all the horror stories!

Compared to other verification issues, ID verification is actually one of the faster ones to resolve. Unlike audits that can take 6+ months or amended returns that take 20+ weeks, ID verification usually processes within 2-4 weeks after you call. It's like comparing express shipping to standard ground - once you're verified, you're on the express track. I'd recommend checking your tax transcript instead of WMR - transcript updates are more detailed and often happen a few days before WMR changes.

According to IRM 21.5.6.4.35.3 (Internal Revenue Manual), the normal processing time after identity verification is 9 weeks, but current processing is averaging 3-4 weeks for straightforward returns. Military status doesn't officially prioritize your return, but as a practical matter, if you mention your upcoming PCS when you call for status updates, many agents will expedite if possible. If you don't see movement by April 15th, call the dedicated military tax line at 866-562-5227 instead of the general number.

Omg I was EXACTLY where you are!!! Filed early February, got that stupid letter, freaked out completely! 😭 Called and verified my identity on March 2nd, and my refund hit my account March 24th! Just under 3 weeks! I was shocked it went so fast after all the nightmare stories I read. Hang in there - the worst part is over now that you've verified!

Did you notice when your transcript updated after verification? I verified on March 28th and I'm wondering if I should expect movement by April 18th or if that's too optimistic based on your experience?
