Anyone still waiting on 2023 tax return? ID verified in person last week
Anyone else still stuck waiting on last yr's taxes? Filed back in Feb and got the ID verify letter in April. Finally made it to the ID verify appt in person last wk but haven't seen any updates on WMR or transcripts yet. Getting super worried bc we're PCSing next month and really need that $$ for the move. Triple checked all our docs before filing so pretty sure everything was accurate. How long after verifying should I expect movement? Thx!

How long ago did you file? Did you get any notices before the ID verify letter? What's your WMR status showing right now?

The IRS backlog is like a traffic jam on a holiday weekend - you're moving, but slower than you'd like. In-person verification usually speeds things up compared to online, but you're still looking at 2-3 weeks minimum before you see movement. Have you checked your tax transcript online? Sometimes that updates before WMR does.

I'm going through this exact situation and I'm so confused. Here's what I did: 1) Filed in February 2) Got letter in April 3) Verified online 4) Nothing changed for weeks 5) Called and they said I need to verify in person too! Is this normal? Do I need to do both types of verification?

This verification process is concerning for several reasons: ā¢ Multiple verification requirements aren't clearly communicated ā¢ Processing timeframes vary widely between taxpayers ā¢ No clear indication when the process is actually complete Does anyone know if there's a way to confirm your verification was actually processed correctly?

Online verification works for most people. In-person is only needed for specific cases. Check your transcript. Look for TC 570. Then check for TC 571. When you see 571, you're verified. Processing starts then. Updates usually weekly.

I'm in the same boat, lol... except my ship has been floating since January 2023! š Filed early last year, got the verify letter in March, verified online, then nothing for MONTHS. Finally got through to someone in December who said they never actually processed my verification (even though the website said it was successful). Had to redo everything. Just got my refund last week - a full 14 months after filing! Hang in there, the military-style hurry up and wait applies to the IRS too.

Thank you for sharing this. I was starting to think I was the only one with this problem. It's such a relief to know others have gone through it and eventually got their refunds.

Did they pay you interest on the delayed refund? Isn't the IRS required to pay interest after 45 days? And did you have to do anything special to claim that interest, or did they just include it automatically?

Was your refund accurate when you finally received it? I'm concerned about potential adjustments after such a long delay. I've heard the IRS sometimes recalculates refund amounts during extended processing periods, particularly with tax credits like the CTC or EITC.

Been there. After my in-person verification last year, I waited 5 weeks with zero updates. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual IRS agent instead of waiting on hold for hours. Found out they needed one more document they never asked for. Got it sorted in one call and had my refund 9 days later. Worth every penny not to sit on hold for 3+ hours just to get disconnected.

I'm not convinced things are moving as they should. According to IRS Publication 5027, identity verification should be processed within 9 business days. After that, return processing resumes with normal timeframes of 21 days. You're already outside that window if you verified a week ago. Have you checked your Account Transcript for a TC 971 Action Code 129? That would indicate verification was received but additional review is needed.

Many people don't realize that the IRS actually has different processing centers for different types of returns, and the backlog varies by location. According to the IRS Operations page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're still working through a significant backlog from 2023. Your military status doesn't automatically fast-track your return, unfortunately. The in-person verification should help though!
