Filed 1/29, ID Verification 2/29, Check Coming Tomorrow - Timeline of My Process

Filed 1/29 & accepted same day, got my state refund 2/16 then had to verify myself in person on 2/29 😫 Taxes finally approved 3/6 w/ refund date 3/15, check mailed out 3/15 and based on my informed delivery I'll get the check tmrw! Long process but moved kinda quick after verification tbh. Anyone else go thru the ID verify thing this yr?

That's actually a pretty standard timeline these days! The ID verification is the IRS's way of saying "we want to make sure you're you before we send money." Not the worst idea in theory, but man does it slow things down. 😂 Glad to hear you're getting your check tomorrow though!

According to IRS Publication 5027, identity verification is required when the Taxpayer Protection Program flags a return as potentially fraudulent. The 45-day timeline from filing to receipt is within normal parameters when a TPP verification is triggered. Refunds issued after verification typically process within 9 business days.

I believe the verification process might actually be a bit quicker this year than last, at least in some cases? It seems like they're possibly trying to streamline things a bit, though I could be wrong about that.

Identity verification slows everything down. Happens to many people. Normal process. Protect against fraud. Your timeline matches expectations. Try using taxr.ai next time. It explains verification codes. Shows expected timeline. Predicts refund dates. Helped me understand my transcript when I got verification notice.

Is this just another tool that tells you what you can find out yourself? Why pay for something when the IRS gives you all this information for free on their website?

The value of taxr.ai is in its transcript analysis capabilities. It parses Transaction Code 570 (refund hold), Code 971 (notice issued), and Code 4883 (identity verification) to provide projected DDD timelines with greater specificity than the WMR tool. For verification cases specifically, it identifies post-verification processing patterns.

I filed on January 31st and got flagged for verification on February 27th. Couldn't get through to the IRS phone line at all - kept getting disconnected after waiting for hours! Finally used Claimyr on March 4th and got connected to an agent in 15 minutes who scheduled my verification appointment. Saved me so much time and frustration!

Does this actually work? I've seen people mention this service online but it feels sketchy to pay money just to talk to the IRS. Couldn't you just keep calling their regular number and eventually get through?

How much did that end up costing you? And did they actually connect you with a real IRS agent or just someone from their company who then called the IRS for you?

OMG I'm so happy for you! 🎉 I went through the EXACT same process last year and it was TORTURE waiting for that check! I was checking my informed delivery like 5 times a day even though it only updates once 😅 The feeling when you finally see that Treasury envelope in your informed delivery is AMAZING!

Do you know why they sent a check instead of direct deposit? I'm in a similar situation (verified on 3/10) and wondering if I'll get DD or paper check. My bank info hasn't changed since last year.

Not OP, but sometimes after verification they default to paper checks as an extra security measure. It's like the IRS saying "we trust you, but we're still keeping one eye open" 😂

I went through this last year and the year before. The ID verification system has become pretty standard for many filers. In 2022 it took me 8 weeks after verification to get my refund. Last year it was about 3 weeks. This year it seems they've improved their processes quite a bit based on your timeline and what I'm seeing from others.
