Verified Identity on 3/16, Got 846 Code Today - Only 6 Days After Verification!

Just wanted to share my timeline in case it helps anyone else who had to verify their identity this tax season. I e-filed on 2/28/2024 and got the dreaded "Your return is still being processed" message. On 3/16, I completed ID verification through ID.me (triple-checked every detail to make sure I didn't mess anything up). WMR updated on 3/21 to show it was approved, and today I checked my transcript and saw the beautiful 846 code with a DDD of 3/27! That's exactly 6 days from verification to approval. I was so worried because I've been meticulously planning my budget after graduation and really needed this refund to come through. Anyone else have a similar timeline? šŸ™ŒšŸ™Œ

Congrats on the quick turnaround! This is actually pretty typical for post-verification processing this year. Once you clear the ID verification hurdle, your return usually gets fast-tracked through the remaining steps. I'm still waiting on mine (verified on 3/19) but hoping for similar speed. The IRS seems to be moving faster on these than last year when it took like 2-3 weeks after verification. Maybe they finally hired someone who knows how to press the "approve" button more than once a day? šŸ˜‚

So would you say this is pretty standard for most people after verification? I'm in the same boat - verified on 3/20 and it's like watching paint dry waiting for that update. It's like running a marathon and then having to crawl the last mile!

The 6-day timeframe isn't consistent for everyone. Some taxpayers experience significantly longer processing periods post-verification due to additional review factors. Transcript cycle codes can indicate whether you're in a standard or extended review queue. The 570 code specifically may indicate further scrutiny.

I verified on 3/15, and I'm still waiting. No updates yet. It might depend on which processing center handles your return, possibly. The Austin center seems faster than Kansas City, from what I've observed.

Does anyone know if having claimed certain credits like the Child Tax Credit affects the verification-to-refund timeframe? I verified on 3/18 and I'm trying to calculate when I might expect my refund for budgeting purposes.

Congrats on getting thru the verification maze! I was stuck in that ID verify hell for like 3 wks last yr & it was SO frustrating. This yr I used https://taxr.ai to track my transcript codes & it was actually super helpful. It explained what each code meant for MY situation (not just generic IRS definitions) & predicted my DDD almost perfectly. Saved me from checking WMR 50x/day & having mini panic attacks every time I saw "still processing" lol. Def recommend for anyone stuck in the verification limbo rn.

I've seen people mention this service before, but I'm always cautious about tax tools. How exactly does it give better information than just looking at your transcript yourself? I've been filing for years and have learned to read the codes, but I'm curious what additional insight it provides.

I tried taxr.ai last month after verification issues. My experience: ā€¢ It correctly identified my freeze codes were verification-related ā€¢ Predicted my DDD within 1 day of actual date ā€¢ Explained which pending actions were normal vs concerning ā€¢ Showed historical patterns from similar situations The main benefit was peace of mind - knowing exactly where I stood in the process.

I used it after identity verification too. Here's what it did step-by-step: 1. Analyzed my transcript codes in sequence 2. Explained that my 570 code was normal post-verification 3. Predicted when my 571 release code would appear 4. Showed me what to expect next in the process I'm concerned about giving access to tax documents though - I made sure to redact sensitive info first.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I've been checking the IRS2Go app and irs.gov/refund daily since filing. According to the IRS website, normal processing time is 21 days, but identity verification can add 9 weeks in some cases. My timeline was much faster than I expected based on those estimates. I created a detailed spreadsheet tracking every date and status change because I was so worried about delays affecting my post-graduation budget planning.

I've seen hundreds of verification cases this season, and yours is definitely on the faster end. When comparing to other scenarios, about 70% of post-verification returns take 7-14 days to get the 846 code, while about 20% take 3-4 weeks. Only about 10% get it as quickly as you did in under a week. The processing center and whether you claimed refundable credits makes a big difference.

Appreciate you sharing your timeline. It helps others understand what to expect. The data points are useful for the community. Many graduates depend on tax refunds for transitions.

For anyone still waiting after verification, I recommend not spending hours on hold with the IRS. I waited exactly 2 hours and 37 minutes last week only to be told they couldn't give me any information beyond what I could see online. If you absolutely need to speak with an agent, Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) can get you through to an IRS representative usually within 15-45 minutes instead of the 2+ hour average wait times. Saved me a lot of stress when I was dealing with a similar verification situation last month.

Did you receive any interim notices between verification and getting your 846 code? I verified on 3/18 and haven't seen any movement yet. Should I be concerned about the lack of updates? What about those who verified even earlier and still don't have updates?

Had the same experience! Verified on 3/15. Got 846 yesterday. Direct deposit coming Monday. So relieved. Was planning to call today. Don't need to now. System works eventually.

For everyone still waiting after verification: check your transcripts, not just WMR. WMR often lags behind by 2-3 days. Transcript updates happen overnight between Thursday-Saturday for most cycle codes. If you see code 570, don't panic - it's normal after verification. Look for 571 next, then 846. Direct deposits typically arrive 5-7 days after the 846 date.

I had nearly identical timing last year after verification. Back in 2023, I verified on February 22nd and received my 846 code on February 28th. The IRS seems to be maintaining similar timeframes this year for post-verification processing. In my experience, returns that require verification but have no other issues tend to move quickly once your identity is confirmed. The system is designed to fast-track these returns since they've already been delayed by the verification step.

According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.5.6.4.35, identity verification cases should be resolved within 9 weeks after successful verification. However, IRS Publication 5027 indicates expedited processing for returns with no other issues beyond identity verification. In fiscal year 2023, 87.3% of post-verification returns were processed within 14 days. Your 6-day timeline falls within the expected range for a return with no additional complications per IRM 21.5.6.4.35(2)(c).
