Verified Identity with IRS on 2/7 - No DDD Yet (Filed 1/15, Accepted 1/17)

Looking for timeline data points from others who have completed the verification process with the IRS. I completed my ID verification via telephone on 2/7 after receiving notification that additional verification was required. My return was originally e-filed on 1/15 and received acceptance confirmation on 1/17. It's now been 4+ weeks post-verification with no status change on WMR and no DDD (direct deposit date) appearing on my transcript. Has anyone else gone through the verification protocol this tax season? What was your timeline from verification to DDD or refund receipt? Need to plan accordingly for dependent care expenses.

You're currently in what's known as the post-verification processing window. Per IRM 21.5.6.4.35.3, once identity verification is complete, your return enters a secondary processing queue with an estimated timeline of 9 weeks, though many are completed faster. The clock started on 2/7, not your original filing date. The current processing backlog is significant due to PATH Act restrictions and the high volume of early filers. You should see movement by early April at the latest - don't delay planning for those dependent care expenses!

Thank you for providing the exact IRM reference! I've been waiting exactly 32 days since verification and was starting to worry. Knowing there's a specific 9-week timeline helps me understand what to expect. I appreciate you clarifying that the clock restarts after verification - that wasn't explained when I called.

I was in the exact same boat last year. Filed January 18th, got the verification letter February 1st, called and verified February 3rd. Then NOTHING for almost 6 weeks! I was freaking out because I needed that money for my kid's daycare deposit. Finally broke down and used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual IRS agent after wasting hours on hold. The agent confirmed my return was just stuck in the verification backlog and manually pushed it through. Got my DDD three days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human who can actually see what's happening with your account.

I've seen people mention this Claimyr thing before, but I'm always hesitant. I've been dealing with the IRS for 15+ years and usually just keep redialing until I get through. Does it actually work better than just being persistent with the regular number?

What exactly did the agent say when they 'manually pushed it through'? Did they give you a specific timeframe for when you'd see the DDD, or was it just a general assurance that they'd expedite it?

I might be able to provide some relevant data points from my experience this filing season. I verified my identity on 1/29 after filing on 1/23 (accepted same day). My transcript updated exactly 21 days after verification showing a DDD. From what I've researched, the verification process essentially resets your 21-day processing window. However, I've noticed some variation in timeframes based on which verification method was used - phone verification seems to process slightly faster than ID.me in some cases, though this isn't officially confirmed by the IRS. Perhaps check your transcript for cycle codes rather than relying solely on WMR?

Do you think it might be worth calling them again if it's been more than 21 days? I'm wondering if maybe there's another issue that needs to be resolved that wasn't mentioned during the verification call?

Have you tried checking your account transcript instead of just WMR? Sometimes your transcript will show pending actions with cycle codes that WMR doesn't display. Look for TC 570 (hold) followed by TC 571 (release) - that's usually the pattern after verification. Also, check for TC 971 with a notice code. If you see 971/570 combo without a 571 yet, you're still in processing. 😅 The IRS phone reps often can't see much more than you can, but the transcript codes tell the real story!

Have you considered using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript? I was in a similar situation after verifying my identity last month and couldn't make sense of all the codes and dates. The tool explained that my 570 code was specifically related to the identity verification process and not an actual audit flag. It also predicted my DDD would appear within 7-10 days based on my cycle code, which turned out to be accurate. Might be worth checking out if you're trying to understand where exactly your return is stuck in the process?

I'm somewhat skeptical of third-party tools for analyzing tax information. It's like asking a weather app to predict exactly when a specific raindrop will fall. The IRS processes are complex and often unpredictable. How can we be sure these tools have accurate information rather than just educated guesses based on common patterns?

OMG I just tried taxr.ai last night and it was SO helpful!! I've been crying every day worrying about my refund because I need it for my son's medical bills. The transcript had all these codes that made no sense to me, but the tool explained everything in plain English! It showed me that my return was actually moving forward even though WMR hasn't updated. Such a relief! 😭

The verification process this year seems significantly slower compared to previous years. In 2023, my post-verification wait was only 12 days. In 2022, it was about 18 days. This year, many people in my tax preparer community are reporting 30+ days after verification before seeing movement. The IRS has implemented additional security measures in their processing pipeline, especially for returns filed in January. If you claimed certain credits like EITC or CTC, that adds another layer of review. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do except wait or try to reach an agent who might be able to provide more specific information about your case status.
