Timeline After ID Verification for Tax Refund?

So I just completed the ID verification process for my 2023 tax return yesterday. Last year when I filed, I had a similar situation where I needed to verify my identity, and it took about 3 weeks after verification to get my refund. This year I'm trying to plan some home repairs that depend on this refund coming through. I went through the whole ID.me process online yesterday, got the confirmation that my identity was verified, but now I'm wondering what the typical timeline is from verification to actually seeing the money in my account. My transcript was updated to show the verification was complete, but still shows processing. Anyone gone through this recently? I'm keeping detailed notes on the whole process this time so I know what to expect if it happens again next year.

You need to act fast. Based on current IRS processing times, most people are seeing refunds 9-21 days after successful identity verification. But that's only if your return doesn't have other issues flagged. Check your transcript ASAP for any codes like 570/971 which would indicate additional review. The verification is just the first step - your return still needs to complete processing after that.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful. Will check my transcript for those codes. Hoping there aren't any other issues.

I really appreciate this timeline breakdown. Isn't it interesting how the IRS can be so precise with some processes but so vague with others? Your comment helps me understand what's actually happening behind the scenes.

According to IRS Publication 5027, identity verification is just one step in the return processing sequence. After verification, your return enters standard processing which can take additional time. I was in your exact situation last month and was getting frustrated with the lack of updates. I started using https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript daily - it showed me exactly what each code meant and gave me a predicted deposit date based on my specific situation. Saved me from constantly guessing what was happening with my return.

Did you have to upload your actual transcript to this site? I'm always nervous about sharing tax documents online. How accurate was their predicted date compared to when you actually got your refund?

Think of ID verification like getting past security at the airport - you've proven who you are, but you still have to wait for your flight to board and take off. I verified my identity on March 2nd and got my refund on March 23rd. It's like watching water boil - seems to take forever when you're watching it! The most frustrating part was that WMR didn't update at all until about 3 days before the deposit hit my account. Suddenly went from "still processing" to approved overnight.

This airport analogy is perfect. I'm worried because I've got property taxes due next month and was counting on this refund. Did your WMR bars disappear during this time? Mine just shows "still processing" with no bars.

I think I'm in the same boat as you were. My bars disappeared about a week ago, and I verified my identity 5 days ago. I guess I should probably expect another 2-3 weeks based on your timeline, right?

Be careful abt assuming everything's good to go after verification. My friend verified her ID in Feb, thought all was well, but then got stuck in review for 2 more months bc of a mismatch on her W-2. Keep checking ur transcript for any codes ending in 05 (like 570/971) which mean additional review. If u see those, ur timeline gets much longer. Def don't make financial plans based on a specific date - IRS timelines are never guaranteed.

Last year I waited 6 weeks after identity verification with no movement. Called the regular IRS number about 20 times with no luck getting through. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get past the phone tree and connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out there was a hold on my account that needed manual release. The agent fixed it while I was on the phone and my refund was issued 4 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to move things along.

Is this service legit? I need to call the IRS about my March 15th return that's still processing after ID verification. I've tried calling at 7:00 AM exactly when they open but still can't get through. Does this really work?

According to the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification-for-irs-letter-recipients), most refunds are issued within 9 weeks of successful identity verification. However, from what I've seen on this sub and other forums, it's typically much faster - usually 2-4 weeks. I was so relieved when mine came through after just 17 days of verification. The IRS tends to overestimate timelines to manage expectations.

Have you verified which specific authentication protocol triggered your verification requirement? There are multiple verification pathways in the IRS processing system: ID.me verification, Letter 5071C response, Letter 4883C response, and in-person verification. Each has different downstream processing implications and timelines.

The Post-Verification Processing Timeline (PVPT) varies based on filing method, claimed credits, and return complexity. For standard returns with successful online verification, the IRS internal target is 21 days, though many taxpayers see resolution in 14-17 days. Transcript cycle codes can provide more insight - if you see TC 570 followed by TC 571, that's verification resolution and means you're in final processing. Stay calm and monitor your transcript weekly.

Have you tried checking the Tax Advocate Service? They can sometimes help if your refund is causing financial hardship. I felt so helpless waiting after my verification last year, but they were able to assist when I explained I needed the funds for emergency home repairs. You have to demonstrate actual financial hardship though, not just wanting your money faster. The process takes some paperwork but might be worth it if you're truly depending on those funds.
