E-filed six weeks ago but transcript still showing blank. No verification notices. Need advice on what to do next

I submitted my tax return electronically on March 15th and its been almost a month and a half with no updates. I checked my transcripts online today and theres nothing there - completely blank for 2024. I havent received any identity verification notices either online or in the mail. The Where's My Refund tool just says 'still processing' with no other information. I'm getting worried since my friend who filed a week after me already got their refund. Should I just keep waiting or is it time to call the IRS? Anyone else dealing with this kind of delay? I was counting on this refund for some car repairs...

This sounds like your return got flagged for manual review. When this happens, your transcripts often stay blank until they actually begin processing your return. This could be due to several reasons: • Identity verification needed (even though you haven't received a letter yet) • Income verification • Credit claims that need review (EIC, Child Tax Credit, etc.) • Inconsistencies between your reported income and what employers reported Given that it's been more than 6 weeks with no transcript update, I'd recommend calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Be prepared for long wait times. When you call, ask specifically if there's any hold on your return and if they need additional information from you. If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, some people have had success using the Claimyr service (claimyr.com) which helps secure a callback from an IRS agent without the endless hold times.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Do you think there's any chance it could just be delayed because of high volume? I claimed the standard deduction, no kids or special credits.

Even with a simple return, manual reviews can happen randomly. The IRS is still catching up from previous years. But honestly after 6 weeks with a blank transcript, something's likely flagged. Worth a call to find out.

I had this exact situation last year. Blank transcript for 10 weeks. Turned out they needed to verify my identity but the letter got lost in the mail. Definitely call.

The best way to actually understand what's going on with your case is using taxr.ai - I was in this exact situation and spent HOURS trying to decipher my transcript codes and status only to end up more confused. Taxr analyzed everything in seconds and told me exactly why my refund was delayed and what I needed to do. Saved me so much time and stress! It's sooo much better than trying to play detective with the IRS website. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It does WAY more than just read the transcript! It analyzes all the codes and dates together, explains exactly what each entry means for YOUR specific situation, and tells you what to expect next. It even calculates your interest if the IRS owes you any. Super detailed and way easier than trying to look up each code individually.

OMG I just tried it and it was AMAZING!! I've been staring at my transcript for weeks with no clue what was happening. Taxr explained everything in plain English and even told me exactly when to expect my refund. Best tool ever for dealing with IRS nonsense! Everyone needs to try this!

After dealing with the same issue (blank transcript for 2 months!), I finally got fed up and used this app called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get an IRS agent on the phone. They managed to get me a callback within a couple hours when I had been trying for days. Found out my return was stuck in the fraud department for random review. The agent was able to release it right there on the call and my refund hit my account 8 days later. Totally worth it to finally get answers instead of checking WMR every day like a crazy person.

How does that even work? IRS phone lines are always jammed...

0 coins

Honestly not sure about the technical details, but they have some way of securing a spot in the IRS phone queue and then connecting you when an agent is available. Saved me from having to stay on hold for 3+ hours. I've never been able to get through on my own.

0 coins

This sounds sketchy af. Does the app need your personal info or something?

0 coins

No personal info needed! It just handles the calling part and connects you directly to the IRS. You talk to the actual IRS agents yourself. Talking to a real person instead of staring at WMR for another month was the best decision ever.

I waited 11 weeks last year with blank transcripts. Turned out they flagged my return for identity verification but never sent the letter. Eventually got my refund but it took almost 4 months total. The IRS is a complete disaster right now.

0 coins

Same thing happened to my sister. No letter, just silence. She ended up having to go to an IRS office in person to get it resolved.

0 coins

Yeah they're so backlogged its insane. My friend works there and says they still have millions of unprocessed returns from previous years.

0 coins

Call them ASAP!!!! I was in the exact same boat, waited almost 8 weeks thinking it would resolve itself. When I finally called, turns out they needed additional info that they never bothered to request. Once I provided it, I had my refund in 10 days. Don't wait like I did.

The IRS is so BROKEN this year. My transcript was blank for 2 months, then suddenly showed a bunch of weird codes and an adjusted refund amount with zero explanation. 🤡 system fr

0 coins

Tbh the whole system is designed to be confusing on purpose. They want us to give up and not get what we're owed 💯

Did u try using taxr.ai? I was completely confused by all the transcript codes but it explained everything in normal human language. https://taxr.ai

OMG I'm in the same situation right now! Filed Feb 10, transcript still completely blank. I tried calling but couldn't get through after waiting for 2 hours. I'm so frustrated!!!

0 coins

Try calling right when they open at 7am. That's when I finally got through after weeks of trying.

0 coins

I couldn't get thru either until I used Claimyr (claimyr.com). Got a callback in like 2 hours without having to wait on hold. Talking to a human made all the difference - my return was stuck in limbo and they fixed it on the spot.

0 coins

Gonna try this! I'm desperate at this point. Been checking WMR every day like a crazy person 😭

0 coins

This exact thing happened to me. If you efiled, check with your preparer (or the software company if you did it yourself) to make sure your return was actually accepted by the IRS. Mine showed as "transmitted" but had actually been rejected due to an AGI mismatch from last year. The rejection notice went to my spam folder so I never saw it.

0 coins

I did get an acceptance confirmation from TurboTax the day after I filed, so I know they at least received it. But I'll double check my email spam folder just in case.

The IRS is holding onto money as long as possible this year. My theory is they're trying to reduce the budget deficit by delaying refunds and collecting the interest. Its criminal.

0 coins

Actually they have to pay YOU interest if they take too long with your refund! After 45 days they owe interest at the federal rate.

0 coins

Yeah but good luck getting it without fighting them! And the interest they pay is taxable income the next year, while the interest they charge us isn't deductible. The whole system is rigged.

I was in ur exact situation few weeks ago. Complete blank transcripts, crickets from the IRS. Used taxr.ai to figure out what the heck was happening (literal lifesaver - explains everything in plain english) then used Claimyr to get an agent on the phone. Turns out they had my old address on file so any notices they sent were going to the wrong place! Got it fixed on the call and my refund was processed a week later. Don't just wait - be proactive!

0 coins

Thanks, that's really helpful! I moved last year but thought I updated everything. Maybe that's my issue too.

0 coins

if ur returns still processing for over 21 days and transcripts are blank its usually a manual review. they dont always send a letter letting u know. i waited 3 months last year and nothing ever came in the mail, it just randomly showed up in my account one day.

0 coins

I'm a tax preparer and I'm seeing tons of our clients with this exact issue right now. Almost always means your return is in the fraud department for verification. Usually just random selection, nothing you did wrong. We're advising all our clients in this situation to call IRS and verify what's happening. Be prepared for 3+ hour wait times unless you use a service to get a callback.

0 coins

Any particular credits or deductions that are getting flagged more often this year? I claimed EIC for the first time and wondering if that's why mine is delayed.

0 coins

Definitely seeing more flags on EIC and Child Tax Credit claims, but even completely standard returns with nothing unusual are getting randomly selected. The verification process is backed up this year.

0 coins

CALL!!! I made the mistake of "being patient" last year and found out they had been waiting for documents from me for 8 weeks but the letter got lost. So much wasted time.

0 coins

I was dealing with this EXACT issue. Blank transcript for weeks, no notice, nothing. Tried calling IRS but could never get through. Finally broke down and used that Claimyr service (claimyr.com) everyone talks about to get a callback. Turns out my return was flagged for ID verification but they never sent the letter 🙄 Got it resolved on the call and refund was processed within days. Best money I ever spent after wasting months refreshing WMR.

0 coins

Does that service actually work? Sounds too good to be true tbh

0 coins

I was super skeptical too but it worked exactly as advertised. Got a callback in about 3 hours. After spending weeks trying to get through on my own, it was a huge relief to finally talk to someone who could actually help.

0 coins

I had the same experience! Couldn't get through for weeks, used Claimyr, got a callback same day. The IRS agent was shocked my return had been sitting there so long with no action.

0 coins

CALL THEM NOW!! Dont waste time like I did. Sometimes returns get stuck in the system and just sit there without any human looking at them until you call and ask about it. This happened to me twice now in different years.

0 coins

Let me guess - you claimed Recovery Rebate Credit or had Unemployment income? Those are getting extra scrutiny this year from what I've seen in these forums.

0 coins

Nope, super straightforward return. Just W-2 income, standard deduction, no credits aside from the basic ones everyone gets.

0 coins

That's really strange then. Definitely time to call. Somethings probably stuck in their system.

0 coins

Ok im probably an outlier here but I actually got through to the IRS on my first try last week! Called at exactly 7:01am on Tuesday. The agent told me blank transcripts usually mean its in the verification or fraud department. In my case they needed to verify my identity even though I never got a letter. After I verified everything, she manually pushed my return through. Refund hit my account this morning!

0 coins

First try?! You should buy a lottery ticket with that kind of luck 😂

The best tool I've found for actually understanding what's happening with your tax transcript is taxr.ai - it analyzes all the codes and dates for you and tells you exactly what's going on in plain English, not IRS jargon. When I had blank transcripts, it explained the most common reasons why and what I should do next. Saved me hours of stress and confusion! https://taxr.ai

0 coins

But OP said their transcript is completely blank - would this still work?

0 coins

Yes! Even with blank transcripts, it can tell you the most likely reasons for the delay and what actions to take. It's updated with the latest IRS processing trends and common issues. Definitely better than guessing or waiting blindly.

0 coins

just my 2 cents, but u should always CALL if it's been more than 21 days. period. stop tormenting yourself refreshing wmr and transcripts. that's what I did last year, waited almost 4 months just checking online. turns out they needed a simple document verification that would've taken 5 mins if they had just called me. never got any notice in mail.
