Filed 2/10, accepted 2/11, transcript completely blank and WMR still says processing after 30+ days

I submitted my return electronically on February 10th and got the acceptance confirmation on February 11th. We're now in the middle of March and I've got nothing to show for it. My transcript is completely empty when I check online and the Where's My Refund tool just says "processing" with no further information. It's been well over 30 days now. I filed as single with no dependents, pretty straightforward return. Anyone else stuck in this weird limbo? Starting to get concerned since I was counting on that money.

Savanna Franklin

This is unfortunately pretty common right now. When your transcript is blank after acceptance, it generally means one of a few things: 1. Your return is still in the processing queue and hasn't been assigned yet 2. Your return was flagged for manual review (identity verification, income verification, etc.) 3. There could be a system delay in updating your transcript Since you filed as single with no dependents, you're less likely to be caught in some of the common delay traps like Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit verification. However, the IRS is still working through a backlog. I would recommend checking if you received any letters in the mail from the IRS - sometimes they request additional information without updating the online systems. If it's been more than 30 days with no transcript update, you might want to call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040, but be prepared for long wait times.

Thanks for the detailed response. Haven't received any letters in the mail yet, so I guess they're just taking their sweet time. I'll give them another week before attempting to call.

good luck getting through on that number LOL took me 9 tries last year and even then got disconnected twice

I've been in this exact situation before. Not fun at all. Filed early January last year and didn't see movement until March. Hang in there!

Honestly, trying to understand those transcripts and WMR messages feels like solving a puzzle with half the pieces missing. I finally got tired of the guesswork and used taxr.ai - it analyzed my transcript and gave me an actual explanation of what was happening instead of just staring at code numbers wondering what they mean. For your situation where the transcript is blank, it would tell you exactly why that happens and what to expect next. It's insanely good! I use it every week now to check for updates instead of trying to decipher everything myself. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's actually mindblowing! It doesn't just read the transcript - it interprets EVERYTHING. Explains every code, tells you what each date means, estimates your refund timeline, and explains exactly why you're experiencing delays. Totally transformed my tax season anxiety into actual understanding. Cannot recommend it enough!

another service to pay for? the IRS should just fix their systems and make this info accessible 🙄

I thought the same thing at first but when you see how much clarity it provides vs hours of googling random codes and getting nowhere... totally worth it. The IRS *should* fix their systems but we all know that's not happening anytime soon lol

After weeks of waiting with a situation just like yours, I finally managed to get through to a live IRS person using this app called Claimyr. They connected me to an actual human at the IRS who explained that my return was sitting in a queue for review. Got everything resolved in one call after spending weeks in the dark. The website is claimyr.com - saved me from constantly redialing and getting disconnected.

this seems sketchy af... does it actually work tho? I've been trying to reach anyone at the IRS for 2 weeks straight 😩

I was super skeptical too, but it genuinely works. They basically navigate the phone system and get you in the queue, then call you back when an agent is ready. Talking to the agent directly was what finally got my refund moving. Was the best money I ever spent considering I was waiting on thousands in my refund.

how long did it take from when you used it until you got a callback? debating if it's worth it

For me it was about 45 minutes total from when I started until I was on the phone with an actual IRS rep. Way better than the 6+ hours I spent trying to get through myself across multiple days.

In the exact same boat. Filed and accepted Feb 5, transcript completely blank, WMR just says "still processing" with no other info. No dependents, standard deduction, W2 income only. This is ridiculous. No letters, no explanation, NOTHING. 🤬

I had this same issue last year and it turned out they flagged my return for identity verification but NEVER SENT ME THE LETTER. I only found out after calling them. Check if you need to do ID verification here: https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification-for-irs-letter-recipients

This! I had the exact same thing happen. No letter, nothing in my account, but my return was on hold for 2 months because I needed to verify my identity.

Weird, I just checked that site and it says I'm not eligible to use it. Not sure if that's good or bad news...

That usually means they haven't flagged you for identity verification, which is good! But still doesn't explain the blank transcript. My next guess would be some kind of income verification hold or just general processing backlog.

Word of advice: stop checking everyday or you'll drive yourself crazy. i was in the SAME situation (filed 2/3, accepted 2/4) with a blank transcript for weeks. Then suddenly last friday everything updated at once and my refund was deposited monday. No explanation for the delay, no letters, nothing. The system is just overwhelmed.

That's actually reassuring to hear. I've been checking multiple times daily which is probably making my anxiety worse. I'll try to chill out about it.

I've noticed a pattern with the blank transcripts - if your return gets selected for the Error Resolution System (ERS) it goes into this weird state where the transcript stays blank but they're actually reviewing something. Could be simple math errors, mismatched info, etc. You wouldn't know it's happening unless you call.

0 coins

-

Sergio Neal

Any idea how long the ERS review typically takes? I triple checked everything before submitting so I can't imagine what error there would be.

ERS can take 8-12 weeks unfortunately. And it doesn't always mean YOU made an error. Could be your employer reported something differently, a system glitch, or even random selection. The IRS works in mysterious ways lol.

👆 yep, my completely normal return got stuck in ERS last year because my employer put a dash in my SSN on their W-2 (which I didn't even notice). Took 9 weeks to resolve.

Check ur bank account! Sometimes the money gets deposited with no updates to WMR or transcript. Happened to me last year, stressed for weeks and the money just showed up randomly.

I've been trying to figure out my transcript for years and taxr.ai is a GAME CHANGER. It detected cycle codes and processing patterns that I never would have understood. In your case, it would explain exactly why your transcript is blank and give you a likely timeline based on thousands of similar cases. Save yourself the headache - seriously worth checking out https://taxr.ai

Normally I'd agree with you, but after 3 years of tax delays and thousands in refunds held up, I'm past caring. I just want my money and some actual information instead of cryptic codes. This actually helped me figure out when my money was coming and why it was delayed.

Did you get an email confirmation from both the tax software AND the IRS? Sometimes people only get the software confirmation but the return actually got rejected by the IRS for some reason.

0 coins

-

Sergio Neal

I got both confirmations - one from TurboTax that they submitted it and one from the IRS that it was accepted. That's what makes this so strange.

With a blank transcript more than 21 days after acceptance, you should definitely call them. I was in limbo for 2 months last year and turns out they just needed to verify my identity. When I finally managed to reach someone using Claimyr (claimyr.com), the agent resolved it in 10 minutes. I got my refund the following week. Speaking to a real person was the only thing that fixed it.

That's why I ended up using Claimyr. I tried calling myself for THREE DAYS with no luck. With Claimyr I was talking to an agent within an hour. Totally worth it to get thousands in refund money unstuck.

Same experience. I wasted days trying to get through. Finally used Claimyr and was literally talking to an IRS agent that same day. They found my return was held up for a simple verification that I could have handled weeks earlier if I'd known.

Not to freak u out but my transcript was blank last year and turned out my return was victims of identity theft. Someone filed a fake return using my info. Once I called they told me and started the process to fix it. Took 9 months to get my refund 😭

That's terrifying. I have no reason to think that's my situation, but I guess you never know. Just another reason I need to actually speak to someone at the IRS.

If the WMR tool gives you a generic "still processing" message and your transcript is blank, try checking the refund status on the IRS2Go app instead. Sometimes it shows different/more detailed information.

Just tried it - still says the same thing unfortunately. "Your tax return is still being processed."

Last year I had a blank transcript almost 2 months after filing, couldn't reach a human at IRS. I used that service, taxr.ai, and it actually explained common reasons for blank transcripts and what the likely timeline would be. Way better than obsessively checking for updates daily like I was doing. Had accurate predictions for when my transcript would finally update.

Worth every penny compared to the stress of wondering what's happening with thousands of dollars of my refund. They have different options but even the basic analysis gave me more info than weeks of searching online forums.

I check my transcripts by obsessively refreshing every morning at 5am hoping for updates like a crazy person 🤡 We've all been there. Called IRS twice and both times they just said "keep waiting" which was SO helpful 🙃

If your transcript is completely blank after 30+ days, there's likely some kind of hold or review happening. I dealt with this same issue and after weeks of struggling to get through to the IRS, I used Claimyr.com to finally speak with an agent. Turns out my return needed a simple review that they never notified me about. After that call, my transcript updated within 3 days and I had my refund a week later. Talking to a human was the only thing that worked.

100% worked for me. Was skeptical at first but after wasting hours trying to call myself, it was such a relief to finally talk to someone who could tell me exactly what was going on with my return. The IRS agent I spoke with found the issue and cleared it while I was on the call.

go on the IRS website and request an account transcript for 2023, not a return transcript. Sometimes the account transcript will show info even when the return transcript is blank. might give u some clues.
