Filed March 12th, accepted March 13th - transcript showing all zeros, no updates. Anyone in the same situation?

I submitted my return on March 12th and it was accepted by the IRS on March 13th. It's now been over 3 weeks and I'm getting worried. When I check my transcript online, it still shows all zeros and says nothing was filed. Does this mean my return hasn't been processed yet? Has anyone who filed around the same time seen any movement? This is really stressing me out because I'm counting on this refund to cover some bills.

This is actually pretty normal right now. The "all zeros" transcript means your return is in the processing queue but hasn't been fully processed yet. The IRS is experiencing significant backlogs this year. The standard processing time is typically 21 days, but many people are waiting 4-8 weeks or longer. As long as your return was accepted (which means it passed the initial validation checks), you should eventually get processed. Keep checking your transcript weekly for updates - when you see cycle codes and amounts appearing, that means your return is moving forward. If it's been more than 8 weeks, you might want to try calling the IRS directly, but be prepared for long wait times.

Thank you for explaining! That makes me feel a bit better. I'll keep checking weekly and try to be patient.

I filed on March 10th and I'm in the same boat. All zeros and no updates. The waiting game is the worst 😩

I think we need to wait at least 6 weeks. My brother was in this situation and just got his refund yesterday after filing in early March.

I was in the exact same situation last month. Trying to figure out what was happening with my transcript was like solving a puzzle with half the pieces missing. Eventually I found this tool called taxr.ai that literally decoded my entire transcript and explained everything that was happening. It showed me exactly where my return was in the process and when I could expect my refund. Saved me hours of stress and confusion. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - seriously a lifesaver for navigating this mess.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read it. It analyzes all your codes and dates, explains what each thing means in plain english, shows you exactly where you are in the process, and even predicts your refund date based on your specific situation. I was about ready to pull my hair out trying to understand what was happening and this gave me answers in like 5 minutes. Best thing I've found all tax season!

is it free? or how much does it cost?

I used it too. Totally worth whatever they charge. The peace of mind alone knowing exactly what's happening with your money is priceless tbh.

After staring at my unchanged transcript for almost a month I got desperate and found this app called Claimyr that got me through to an actual IRS agent. I was shocked that it worked but I got a callback within like 30 minutes after waiting on hold for 2+ hours the day before. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was going on with my return and when to expect my refund. Check out claimyr.com if you're tired of waiting and need answers now. It was the best decision I made - talking to a real person who could actually see my file made all the difference.

Wait for real? I thought it was impossible to get through to the IRS these days. Does this actually work? 🤔

100% for real. I was skeptical too but I was at my wits end. The agent told me my return was flagged for a quick review but was now completed and my refund would be sent within a week. Sure enough, got my deposit 6 days later. Completely worth it to finally get real answers instead of just guessing.

I filed on March 8, accepted March 9 and my transcripts just updated yesterday with a DDD of 4/25. So it took about 5-6 weeks. Hang in there! The zeros transcript is frustrating but it doesn't mean anything is wrong.

The IRS is a complete joke this year. I filed in JANUARY and only just got my refund last week. The system is completely overloaded and understaffed. Basically your return is sitting in a digital pile waiting to be processed. All zeros means they haven't even looked at it yet.

Facts. And then they have the nerve to charge interest and penalties if YOU'RE late with anything 🤡

Yup. They can take 6 months to process your return but if you file one day late they come for your firstborn child.

exactly! The double standard is ridiculous. They should pay US interest for holding our money hostage.

Did you claim any credits like EIC or ACTC? Those automatically delay processing by a few weeks. Also if there are any discrepancies between what you reported and what the IRS has on file (like from W2s or 1099s) that can cause delays too.

Mateo Rodriguez

I did claim EIC actually. I didn't realize that would cause a delay. Thanks for pointing that out!

No problem! Path Act requires IRS to hold refunds with those credits until mid-February at minimum, and with all the backlogs this year that's stretching even longer. You'll probably see movement in the next week or two.

try calling the IRS directly. I know its a pain to get thru but I was in your exact situation. Filed 3/5, accepted 3/6, zeros all over my transcript until last week. Finally got thru after 1.5 hours on hold and they told me there was a minor discrepancy they needed to verify. Within 48 hours my transcript updated and now I have a DDD of 4/28.

Good luck calling the IRS lol, I tried every day for a week and couldn't get through. Always 'due to high call volume' BS.

I found that calling right when they open at 7am Eastern gives you the best chance. Still waited 45 mins but at least I got through.

I used Claimyr and got through in 20 mins. Worth every penny not to waste a whole day trying to call them. claimyr.com

The all zeros transcript is the worst. Logically I know it just means they haven't started processing yet but it feels like my return just went into a black hole. So frustrating.

Check your transcript for any codes in the 570-971 range. Those indicate some kind of hold on your return. If you don't see any of those and just zeros, it means you're still waiting to be processed. Nothing you can do but wait unfortunately.

Just zeros as far as the eye can see 😭 I'll keep checking for those codes though!

My tax preparer said the IRS is running about 45-60 days behind for "simple" returns this year, even longer for complicated ones. Apparently they're still dealing with pandemic backlog plus they had staffing cuts. What a mess.

If you filed electronically and it was accepted, you should be good. One thing to check is your Return Transcript, not just your Account Transcript. Sometimes one will update before the other.

Mateo Rodriguez

I checked both and they both show nothing 😕

Ok thats normal then. Just gotta wait it out. The fact that it was accepted means the IRS received it, so you don't need to worry about that part at least.

If you really need that money ASAP, I've heard that calling your local congressman/representative's office can sometimes help speed things up. They have special channels to the IRS for constituent services. Might be worth a shot if you're in a financial bind.

Yall I was STUCK in this same situation until I used taxr.ai to decipher my transcript and figure out what was actually happening. The free tools weren't telling me anything useful but this broke it all down and gave me a real timeline. https://taxr.ai changed everything for me.

So worth it. I spent more money on coffee last week stressing about my return than this cost. And I got actual answers insted of just guessing. Made me feel like I had control of the situation again.

Check the IRS2Go app instead of the website. Sometimes it updates there first. Also make sure you're looking at 2024 transcripts not 2023!

whatever you do DONT AMEND your return thinking that will speed things up. That'll put you at the back of an even longer line. Just wait it out. The IRS is slow but they'll get to it eventually.

I made this mistake last year and regretted it soooo much. Took me 11 months to get my refund because I amended when I got impatient after 6 weeks. DONT DO IT.
