Filed Feb 23, accepted Feb 24, but transcripts still completely blank - As Of date keeps changing
I e-filed my return on February 23rd and got an acceptance notification on February 24th. It's been almost 8 weeks now and my transcripts are still completely blank. The only thing that changes is the "as of date" which updated last Monday. I've checked Where's My Refund and it still shows my return is being processed. Has anyone else who filed and was accepted around the same time experiencing blank transcripts too? Starting to get worried because I'm counting on that refund for some important expenses.

Tax professional here. The "as of date" changing is actually a good sign - it means there is some activity happening on your account. Blank transcripts after acceptance usually indicate one of several things: 1. Your return is in the processing queue but hasn't been fully processed yet 2. Your return was selected for manual review 3. There's an identity verification hold (you would typically get a letter for this) 4. The system is experiencing delays in updating transcripts The IRS is still working through a significant backlog from previous years, plus this year's returns. For refunds with no complex issues, they're generally taking 21 days, but can take up to 10 weeks for returns requiring further review. If you haven't received any letters requesting additional information, keep checking weekly. You can also try calling the IRS directly, but wait times are extremely long (1-800-829-1040).

Thank you so much for the detailed info. I hadn't received any letters from the IRS. I'll keep checking weekly. Do you know if there's any pattern to how often the "as of date" changes? Mine seems to update every 2 weeks.

The "as of date" typically updates on a cycle, but it doesn't always follow a consistent pattern. For some, it changes weekly, for others bi-weekly. It often indicates internal review cycles, but doesn't necessarily mean action will be taken on that specific date.

Piggybacking on this - I used taxr.ai to understand my transcript situation and it was WAY more helpful than trying to decode what all these stupid codes mean. Saved me hours of research and anxiety.

Is taxr.ai actually worth it? I'm in the same situation and getting desperate for answers.

100% worth it. It explained exactly what was happening with my return, predicted when I'd get my refund (was accurate within 2 days!), and saved me from calling the IRS 50 times. Best tax-related decision I've made in years tbh.

I was in the exact same situation last month and wasted hours trying to understand what was happening with my transcripts. I finally tried this tool called taxr.ai and it literally decoded everything instantly. It analyzed my transcript and explained exactly what was happening with my return in plain English - no more guessing or spending days on tax forums trying to figure it out myself. It even predicted when I would get my refund and was spot on. Seriously wish I found it sooner instead of driving myself crazy trying to be a detective with all those codes and dates. The link is https://taxr.ai if anyone else is tired of the confusion.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read it. It interprets all the codes, explains what each line means for YOUR specific situation, shows you what's happening behind the scenes, and gives you a timeline of when to expect your refund. Changed my whole experience dealing with the IRS - no more guesswork or anxiety. Everyone dealing with tax transcript confusion needs to use this!

It's insanely good value considering the stress it saves you and how much time you'd waste trying to figure everything out yourself. I was skeptical too but it was literally the best decision I made during this tax season.

After dealing with the exact same issue (filed 2/28, accepted 3/1, blank transcripts for 7 weeks), I got so fed up I tried a calling app from claimyr.com to get through to an actual human at the IRS. Got connected to a real agent in less than 2 hours when I'd been trying for WEEKS on my own. The agent told me my return was in manual review due to a simple verification issue. Once I talked to them, my transcript updated within 3 days and refund hit my account a week later. Talking to a live agent was the only way I finally got answers and action.

Thank you for sharing this! I'm getting desperate after checking every day with no progress. How does the calling app work exactly?

It basically navigates the IRS phone system for you and holds your place in line. When they get an agent, you get a call back. Saved me from spending hours listening to hold music and pressing buttons. It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered - I tried calling myself for weeks with no luck.

I was skeptical too but yeah it actually works. i was about to give up after trying to call for 3 weeks straight and getting nowhere. talking to an agent got my refund released so fast. totally worth it.

I used it last week and the IRS agent told me my return was on hold bc they needed to verify my identity. Would've never known without actually talking to someone. Refund should be here next week now 🙌

I'm having this EXACT issue 😤 Filed Feb 25, accepted same day, and it's now April with nada. The "as of" date has changed 3 times but transcripts are still blank. Called IRS twice but couldn't get thru. Where's My Refund just says "still processing". This is ridiculous!

Same boat! Filed 2/20, accepted 2/21, and still nothing. The IRS is a joke this year.

Try calling the IRS using the Claimyr app (claimyr.com) - that's the only way I got through after weeks of trying. Found out my return was flagged for review because I had unemployment last year.

This happened to me last year. Accepted in early Feb, transcript blank until late April. Turns out they had flagged my return for a manual review because I had claimed the earned income credit. Never got any notification about it - just suddenly one day my transcript updated and the refund came a week later. The IRS is severely understaffed and their systems are ancient. Patience is unfortunately the only option unless you can miraculously get someone on the phone.

How the heck can they be understaffed when they just got billions in new funding? 🤔

The funding is being implemented over 10 years and a lot of it is going to updating their computer systems first (which run on code from the 1960s, no joke). The staffing increases are happening but slowly.

exactly what they said ⬆️ plus they lost a ton of staff during covid and are still catching up. it's a mess.

Did you claim any credits like EIC, ACTC, or Recovery Rebate? Those automatically delay processing. In my experience, blank transcripts + changing "as of" date usually means they're doing some kind of review but haven't assigned it to anyone yet. It's frustrating but normal, especially if you filed with any credits or deductions that trigger extra scrutiny.

I did claim the Child Tax Credit. That might explain it. Does that usually cause a significant delay?

Yeah that'll do it. CTC claims are taking 6-8 weeks minimum this year from what I've seen. The IRS has to match your claim against their records and sometimes manually verify.

After dealing with soo many IRS issues I finally gave up and used taxr.ai to interpret my transcripts and figure out what was going on. Best decision ever - it showed me exactly what was happening and when to expect my refund. No more guesswork! https://taxr.ai

Check if u have any letters from IRS. I had same situation - filed Feb 15, blank transcript till April. Turns out they sent a letter asking to verify my identity that went to wrong address. Once I called and verified, transcript updated in 9 days.

I was in the same situation but found out my return was being held because someone had filed a fraudulent return using my SSN the previous year. Had to verify my identity. might want to check if you've been a victim of identity theft.

Oh no, that's concerning. How did you find out about the fraudulent return? Did the IRS contact you or did you have to dig to find that information?

i finally got thru to an irs agent who told me. they had sent a letter but it went to my old address. definitely recommend finding a way to talk to a human there - its the only real way to get answers

My sister was in the same situation, filed Feb 17 with blank transcripts for 7 weeks. She called the IRS using Claimyr.com and found out her return needed identity verification. Once she completed that, her refund was processed within days. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone to find out what's going on!

I had the same sitch & finally gott thru to the IRS. They said my return was "in the errors department" even tho there was NOTHING wrong with it. Apparently they're just backlogged & using that as a bucket for unprocessed returns. Such BS. 🙄 It did eventually process after 9 weeks tho.

The "errors department" is their catch-all excuse. Same thing happened to me. No actual error, just their way of saying "we're behind"

yep! my tax preparer told me they're putting returns they can't get to quickly in the "errors resolution" department even when theres no errors. system is broken af

FYI - check your tax account transcript, not just return transcript. Sometimes the account transcript will show pending actions even when return transcript is blank. Also try calling the IRS automated refund hotline at 1-800-829-1954. Sometimes it has different info than the Where's My Refund tool.

OMG the IRS is a TOTAL DISASTER this year! 🤮 I filed Jan 29, accepted Jan 30, and my transcripts were blank until LAST WEEK! Almost 10 weeks of nothing! No explanation, no letter, NOTHING. And then suddenly everything updated and my refund appeared 3 days later. Hang in there, the system is just completely overwhelmed.

what even is the point of e-filing if it takes 10 weeks anyway? might as well mail it in on a stone tablet lol

CALL THE TAXPAYER ADVOCATE SERVICE! 1-877-777-4778. They helped me when I was in this exact situation. Found out my return was stuck in limbo because of a simple verification issue that nobody had bothered to tell me about. Worth a shot if you're desperate.

Dealing with the exact same thing and finally contacted my local congressional representative. They have caseworkers who can inquire with the IRS on your behalf. Mine got back to me in 3 days with more info than I could get after weeks of trying myself. Might be worth a try.

This is actually great advice. My cousin works for a congressman and says they get IRS issues resolved way faster than individuals can.
