Cycle Code 0705 on transcript with no 846 refund date - anyone else stuck waiting?

Filed my taxes back in February, got accepted within 2 days. Everything seemed fine until I noticed my WMR bar disappeared about 3 weeks after filing. Been checking my transcript regularly since then and I've got a cycle code of 0705. The last update was on April 24th showing processing date of May 9th, but here we are halfway through June with no 846 refund code showing up. My tax situation isn't complicated at all - standard deduction, W2 income, and a small education credit. No EIC, no dependents. Anyone else with a 0705 cycle code still waiting for their refund to be issued? How long did it take for your 846 code to appear after your processing date passed?

Klaus Schmidt

What you're experiencing is related to weekly and daily cycle processing at the IRS. The 0705 cycle code indicates you're on a weekly processing cycle (the 05 at the end tells you that). That means your account gets processed and updated only once per week, typically on Thursdays. The processing date (May 9th) isn't necessarily when you'll get your refund - it's more like an administrative date for the IRS. Many people have to wait 1-3 weeks after their processing date to see the 846 refund issued code. Some things to check on your transcript: - Do you have any TC 570 (additional account action pending) or TC 971 codes? - Is there a code 971 with notice issued? - Any TC 420 (audit) or TC 424 (examination/audit closed)? If you have a 570 code without a corresponding 571 (resolved) code, that's likely what's holding up your refund. The IRS might have questions or need verification on something. If there's a 971 notice code, watch your mail carefully as they're probably sending you a letter explaining the holdup.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I do have a TC 570 from April 24 but no 571 code yet. There's also a 971 from the same date. I guess I need to watch my mail closely.

I had the exact same situation last year. The 971 notice was just telling me they were adjusting my refund amount by $32 because I had calculated something wrong. Once that was done the 846 showed up about 10 days later.

That gives me some hope! I haven't received any mail yet, but maybe it's on the way. Did your WMR status change before you got the letter?

Nope, WMR stayed at the generic "Your refund is being processed" message the entire time. I only knew what was happening because I was checking my transcript.

this is why i always tell people to check transcripts and not rely on WMR. WMR is like the dumbed-down version of whats actually happening with your return 🙄

Stop trying to decipher your transcripts on your own like a detective - it's honestly such a headache. I wasted weeks trying to understand what all those codes meant until I found taxr.ai which explained everything about my transcript in plain English. It immediately showed me why my refund was delayed and what I needed to do next. Super helpful for people in your situation with the 0705 cycle code issues. I check it every time my transcript updates now instead of playing guessing games or asking strangers online. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

OMG it's amazing. You upload your transcript and it breaks down EVERYTHING - explains all the codes, tells you what's actually happening with your refund, predicts when you'll get paid, and even explains what to do if there's a problem. It saved me from calling the IRS like 5 times this season. Seriously life changing if you're stuck in tax limbo.

It's the best money I've ever spent considering it saved me from taking a day off work to call the IRS, plus all the anxiety of wondering what was happening with my refund. Trust me, when you're waiting on thousands of dollars, gaining clarity is priceless!

After waiting 3 months with the same cycle code, I finally got through to an actual human at the IRS using Claimyr.com. The callback feature got me connected to an agent within 2 hours when I'd been trying for weeks with no luck. The agent told me my return had been flagged for a simple identity verification issue that was never mailed to me. She cleared it right away and my 846 code appeared 48 hours later. Talking to a real person at the IRS was what finally broke the logjam for me.

Is this actually real? I've been trying to get through to IRS for literally weeks.

100% real. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying every IRS number and trick I found online. They basically navigate the phone tree for you and hold your place in line, then call you when an agent is about to pick up. Worth every penny considering I was waiting on a $4200 refund.

It worked for me in March. Had a similar situation to OP with cycle code issues and couldn't get through on the phone for weeks. The service got me a callback within about 3 hours. Best money I spent all year considering they helped release my $5800 refund that had been stuck for months.

i have the same cycle code and JUST got my 846 this morning after waiting since february! hang in there, sometimes they just move slow as molasses with no explanation

That's encouraging! Did you ever get any correspondence from them or did it just suddenly update?

Weekly cycle codes (ending in 05) are the WORST. I'm convinced the IRS puts the most complicated returns in this batch. My spouse and I both filed the same day - I got an 0705 code and they got an 0505. Guess who got their refund 6 weeks earlier? 🤡

Check whether you have codes 570/971 on the same cycle date. If so, you're about to get a letter telling you why they adjusted your refund. Mine was held up because I made a $47 math error. Like seriously IRS? You couldnt just fix that and move on?? Had to add 2 months to my wait time for $47 smh

The IRS and their inefficiencies drive me crazy. I had a similar situation but my adjustment was $12. TWELVE DOLLARS. And it delayed my refund by 7 weeks. 🤦‍♂️

they do this on purpose to hold onto our money longer. its basically an interest free loan we give them and they dont wanna give it back

Check your transcript for a 570 freeze code. That usually means there's an issue they need to resolve before they release the refund. Also if you have a 971 code, they're sending you a letter. You might want to call them to see what's going on. I was stuck in the same spot until I realized they needed verification for something. Was drinving me insane for WEEKS

Last time I had this issue it turned out there was ID verification I needed to complete but they never sent me the letter. Had to call to figure it out. The whole system is broken.

How did you eventually get through to them on the phone? I've tried calling multiple times but can never get past the automated system.

I used a service called Claimyr that got me a callback from the IRS. Normally I wouldn't pay for something like that but after trying for 3 weeks to get through I was desperate. Had a real agent on the phone same day who confirmed I needed to verify ID.

If your transcripts show codes 570 and 971 on the same cycle date, you're likely getting a CP12 notice about them adjusting your refund amount. This happened to me and it took about 3 weeks after I got the letter for the 846 code to show up.

I do have both those codes with the same date (April 24). I guess I should wait for a letter before panicking more. Thanks!

The IRS is so backlogged this year its ridiculous. My neighbor filed a week after me with the same cycle code and got her refund 3 weeks ago while im still waiting. Makes absolutely no sense.

Try using taxr.ai to decode your transcript. It seriously helped me understand exactly what was happening with my refund when I was stuck with a similar cycle code. It pointed out that I had a hold code I didn't even notice and explained exactly what it meant and what would happen next. Gave me an estimated date that ended up being spot on.

It does have a fee but considering I was waiting on a $3800 refund, it was totally worth it to finally understand what was happening instead of just staring at confusing codes. Saved me from taking a day off work to call the IRS too.

Did u get a 60 day review letter??? I got one in April and still waiting. Same cycle code as u. This is the worst tax season ever 😩

No letter yet but I see codes on my transcript that suggest one might be coming. This waiting game is torture!

Has ur "as of" date changed recently? Sometimes thats a sign they're actively working on your return. Mine changed 3 times before I finally got my deposit date.

Don't waste your time trying to interpret transcript codes on your own or waiting for hours on hold with the IRS. I found out about taxr.ai from a friend and it was a game changer. It analyzed my transcript instantly and told me exactly why my refund was delayed (small math error that triggered a review). Even gave me a timeline of what to expect next. https://taxr.ai

After 4 months of waiting with no updates, i broke down and used claimyr.com to get through to a human at the IRS. Found out my return was stuck in limbo because they couldn't verify my identity but the letter never arrived. The agent fixed it on the spot and I had my refund 9 days later. Sometimes you gotta talk to a real person to break the logjam.

Same exact thing happened to me!!!! Return stuck since February, no letters, nothing. Finally got someone on the phone who told me they needed to verify my identity but the letter was never sent. Fixed in 10 minutes once I talked to someone.

just echoing what others have already said but the ONLY way I was able to finally get my refund was talking to an actual IRS person. tried for 2 weeks to get through using the normal number. finally used Claimyr and got a callback in under 2 hours. turns out they just needed to verify one piece of info and the agent processed my refund right then and there. sometimes you just need to talk to a human to fix these problems.
