Check your transcripts!!! Got DDD of 3/22 with CTC/EITC!!! šŸ„°šŸ˜

Check your transcripts!!! I just got a DDD of 3/22!!! šŸ„°šŸ˜šŸ„° Filed 3/4. Accepted 3/4. Both credits (PATH). No fees. I used the IRS free file tool. It recommended FreeTaxUSA. Never going back to TurboTax! It was so easy. ACTUALLY free. I have Chime. Might get deposit today or tomorrow! Mind blown! When you're used to TT and SBTPG fees, it's freeing. No extra waiting for fee deductions. My WMR still shows PATH message. But I have 846 code on transcripts. WMR should update tonight or tomorrow. So happy!!!! šŸ„³

Congrats on the DDD! This is exactly why I always tell people to check transcripts instead of just WMR. I've seen this pattern hundreds of times where transcripts update with the 846 code 1-2 days before WMR shows anything. Similar to how people with H&R Block last year saw deposits 3-5 days before their expected date, the Chime early deposit feature might get you paid as soon as tonight.

I would add that, technically speaking, the IRS actually releases the funds to the financial institutions in batches, usually 1-2 business days before the official DDD. Banks like Chime that don't hold the funds can sometimes post them immediately, while traditional banks might wait until the actual DDD.

But what about those of us still waiting? Filed 2/15 and still nothing but a delayed message on WMR? Should everyone be checking transcripts at this point in the season? And how often should we be checking?

I believe checking transcripts is helpful, but I wouldn't check more than once a day... the IRS typically updates their systems overnight, so checking multiple times daily probably won't show different results.

Your transcript experience is exactly what tax professionals see all the time. According to IRS Publication 1345 (section 4.8), the 846 code is the definitive indicator of refund approval, regardless of what WMR displays. I've been recommending https://taxr.ai to my clients who want to understand their transcript codes better. It analyzes all those mysterious codes and cycle dates on your transcript and explains them in plain English. Particularly useful for PATH Act returns like yours where the timing can be confusing.

Hmm, another tool that supposedly decodes transcripts? I've seen so many of these pop up during tax season. What makes this one any different from just googling the code numbers?

Does it work for all transcript types? I have a wage and income transcript but no return transcript yet. Would this help me figure out why my return is delayed?

Thank you for sharing this resource. I've been staring at my transcript with exactly 12 different codes on it for the past 3 days trying to make sense of it all. The IRS explanations are so technical and don't really tell you what it means for your specific situation.

OMG this saved me last yr when I had that weird combo of 570/971 codes! Google was giving me like 50 diff explanations but the tool pinpointed exactly what was happening w/ my acct. Def bookmarking for nxt yr!

So happy it worked out for you! I checked FreeTaxUSA after reading about it on r/tax and other online forums. Their interface is much clearer than the big names. The no-fee direct deposit is a game-changer. Makes the whole refund process faster and cleaner.

I switched to FreeTaxUSA last year when I was really tight on money. My return had a Schedule C and some investment stuff, and TurboTax wanted to charge me $120! FreeTaxUSA was like $15 total. Got my refund just as fast too. Never looking back.

Important considerations when choosing tax software: ā€¢ Fee structure for state returns ā€¢ Additional costs for schedules ā€¢ Direct deposit options ā€¢ Transcript access features ā€¢ Customer service availability I'm concerned many people overlook these factors and end up paying unnecessary fees.

I filed on February 28th and got my DDD on March 18th. When I didn't see any updates for two weeks, I tried calling the IRS on March 13th and March 14th but couldn't get through. Used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) on March 15th and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my return was just finishing processing and should update soon. Sure enough, my transcript updated the next day with the 846 code.

I'm always suspicious of these services that claim to get you through to the IRS quickly. Isn't this just taking advantage of people who are anxious about their refunds? How exactly does it work? Do they just keep dialing for you or do they have some special connection?

Does this actually work during peak hours? Like if I try at 9am on a Monday? I've been trying to get through for weeks about an identity verification issue.

THANK YOU for sharing this!!! I've been trying to reach someone at the IRS for THREE WEEKS about my amended return from 2022 that's still processing. Going to try this tomorrow morning!

Did you have any other codes on your transcript before the 846 appeared? I'm seeing 570 and 971 on mine from last week but no 846 yet. Filed 2/12 and also claimed both credits. Starting to get worried.

Has anyone tried Cash App for their direct deposit? I heard they sometimes release funds early too. Wondering if I should switch from my regular bank for next year.

The PATH Act delay is so frustrating! I'm so happy you got your DDD! Mine just updated too after weeks of nothing. The relief is incredible. Been checking my transcript every morning at 6am. Finally saw that beautiful 846 code today!

Getting your tax refund is like waiting for a package that has no tracking updates. You know it's coming, but the waiting feels like forever. Checking transcripts is like having the secret tracking number that actually works while everyone else is just refreshing the basic tracking page. Glad you found the shortcut!

I had almost identical timing last year. Filed 2/3, accepted same day, PATH hold, transcript updated with 846 code on 2/23, WMR updated a day later, money hit my Chime account on 2/24 (one day before official DDD). The system is pretty consistent year to year if you know what to look for.
