846 Code on Transcript (2/22/2024) but WMR Still Shows Processing with PATH Message
Guys, my transcripts finally updated!!! š I've been checking them religiously every morning since I filed in January. Today I see the beautiful 846 code dated 2-22-2024, but the weird thing is WMR is still stuck on processing with that PATH Act message. This happened to me last year too when I was working part-time while taking classes. The transcript updated a full week before WMR did. I'm just excited to see movement! Anyone else experiencing this disconnect between transcript and WMR? I've been tracking every step of this process in my spreadsheet - helps me stay sane during tax season while juggling midterms.

Congrats on the 846 code! That's the light at the end of the tax tunnel, my friend. š The disconnect between transcripts and WMR is actually pretty common - think of them as siblings who don't talk to each other enough. Transcripts update directly from the IRS master file, while WMR seems to use a slower database that takes a while to catch up. I'd be concerned if your transcript DIDN'T have the 846 code, but since it does... you're golden! Just remember this could potentially impact your financial planning if you were counting on that refund hitting tomorrow.

ā¢Would you happen to know if the date shown with the 846 code is usually accurate for direct deposit? My transcript just updated with an 846 code for 2/26/2024.

ā¢Last year my 846 date was 3/15 and the money appeared in my account on 3/16. The year before that it was exactly on the date. Seems to depend on your bank too.

ā¢This explanation is super helpful! I've been checking both WMR and transcripts and couldn't figure out why they were showing different information. The IRS website doesn't explain this relationship very well at all. Bookmarking this thread for next year!

OMG I'm SO HAPPY for you! šš The 846 code is THE BEST code to see! I've been doing this for years and can confirm that the date on your 846 code is almost always the exact date your refund will be sent. Your bank might take 1-2 days to process it after that. Can I ask if you claimed any credits like EITC or Child Tax Credit? Those PATH Act holds can really mess with the WMR tool!

ā¢I've noticed that PATH Act returns seem to follow a different pattern. In my experience, the WMR tool might not update at all for some people with EITC, even after they've received their refund. It's almost as if PATH returns go through a separate processing system.

ā¢It's like the WMR tool is driving a car from the 90s while the transcript system is in a Tesla. Both will get you there, but one's way behind the other! I've seen delays of up to 7 days between transcript updates and WMR updates for PATH Act returns.

ā¢So does this mean the PATH message will stay on WMR even after you get your money? That seems like a design flaw.

ā¢Anyone know if most banks process these deposits on weekends? My 846 date is this Saturday and I rly need this $ for rent due Monday š¬

846 means refund approved. WMR lags behind. Date is deposit date. You'll get money soon. Happens every year. PATH Act creates delays. System isn't synchronized. Nothing to worry about.

I see this all the time with clients. Your situation is actually better than what many people face - at least you can see your transcript! Last month I had a client who couldn't access transcripts and WMR was stuck for 6 weeks. We finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) to get through to an IRS agent after trying for days. The agent confirmed the refund was already processed but their online systems hadn't updated. Turns out there was a small verification issue that was already resolved. If your WMR doesn't update in a few days and you need confirmation, Claimyr can save you hours of hold time compared to calling the regular IRS number.

I'm always skeptical of these services that claim to help with IRS issues. The IRS has specific processing protocols and no third-party service can actually expedite your refund. The 846 code with a Direct Deposit Date (DDD) simply means the refund has been scheduled. The Treasury Financial Management Service (FMS) handles the actual disbursement, which follows a predetermined timeline regardless of any external intervention.

ā¢ā¢ Does Claimyr actually connect you with real IRS agents? ⢠How much does the service cost? ⢠Couldn't you just keep calling the IRS yourself until you get through?

ā¢1. Has anyone verified if this service actually works faster than calling directly? 2. Do they have access to any information that wouldn't be available through normal IRS channels? 3. Is there any risk to using a third-party service for tax matters?

Wait, has anyone here actually used Claimyr? I'm wondering if it's worth trying? I've been calling the IRS about my amended return for weeks and can't get through. The hold times are insane! Do they just help you skip the line somehow? I'm getting desperate to talk to someone about my situation.

ā¢I used it last month when I was freaking out about my refund being delayed. Got connected to an agent in about 25 minutes when I had previously spent 3 days trying to get through. The agent was able to see that my return was just waiting for a final review and would be processed within a week. Sure enough, got my deposit 6 days later.

ā¢I was skeptical too but used it last year when I had a weird offset issue. They connected me to an agent who explained exactly what happened and how to fix it. Saved me so much stress and probably weeks of waiting for letters.

Your situation seems to be progressing as it should, generally speaking. The 846 code is, in most cases, a reliable indicator that your refund has been approved and scheduled for release. There might be, perhaps, a 1-2 day processing period before it actually hits your account, depending on your financial institution's policies. The PATH Act message on WMR is likely just a system lag - it happens quite frequently with the IRS's somewhat outdated interface systems. I'd recommend checking your bank account around the date specified on the transcript, as that tends to be more accurate than the WMR tool.

I had this exact situation on February 18th, 2023. My transcript showed the 846 code dated 2/23/2023, but WMR was stuck on processing. The money hit my account precisely on 2/23/2023 at 3:17am, but WMR didn't update until February 25th. Then on January 29th, 2024, I had the same thing happen with my early filing - 846 code appeared with a 2/3/2024 date, money arrived on 2/3, but WMR took until 2/7 to update. The transcript dates are incredibly reliable in my experience!

Instead of relying on WMR, have you tried using the IRS2Go app? Sometimes it updates faster than the website version of Where's My Refund. Also, if you haven't already, set up direct deposit alerts with your bank so you get notified immediately when the deposit hits. That way you don't have to keep checking multiple systems.
