Cycle 02 Filers - Transcripts Updated! DD 2-24-2025 but WMR Still Shows PATH Act
OMG!!! So happy right now! š All Cycle 02 filers - please check your transcripts! I checked this morning and finally see a direct deposit date of 2-24-2025! It must have updated last night or early this morning. I've been checking every single day since filing! But here's the weird thing - when I look at "Where's My Refund" I'm still stuck on PATH Act status. Is this normal? I'm worried because in my country we didn't have such complicated tax systems, and I want to make sure everything is correct. Has anyone else seen this difference between transcript and WMR?

This is completely normal - think of your tax return like a letter going through different departments at the post office. Your transcript is like the internal tracking system that shows exactly where your letter is, while WMR is like the simplified public-facing tracker that only updates at major milestones. The transcript always updates first with the most accurate information, and WMR typically takes 24-48 hours to catch up. By this time tomorrow, your WMR should show the approved status with your deposit date.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! I was somewhat concerned that my transcript showed a DD date but WMR hadn't updated yet. I suppose it's just a matter of different systems updating at different times, which makes sense when you think about the massive volume of returns the IRS processes.

Really helpful info. My transcript updated on February 12th with a DD date of 2/17, but WMR didn't update until February 14th. The explanation about internal vs. public-facing systems makes perfect sense.

Did you claim any refundable credits like the Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit? The PATH Act delay affects those specifically, and it's similar to how mortgage applications get flagged for extra verification. Your transcript update is a good sign, but I'm concerned the PATH Act message might indicate there's still a hold that could affect your deposit date.

Yes, I claimed the Child Tax Credit for my two children. I've been reading about this PATH Act - isn't it designed to prevent fraud by delaying refunds with certain credits? My transcript shows code 846 with the 2/24 date, and I also see codes 570 and 971 that were there before but now they have the 846. Does that mean the verification is complete?

I went through exactly this same situation last year with the PATH Act hold. My transcript updated with a DD date but WMR was still showing the PATH message for another 36 hours. I was so frustrated trying to call the IRS to confirm everything was okay - spent 3 days calling, getting disconnected after waiting 47 minutes the first time, 62 minutes the second time, and never getting through on the third day. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in exactly 18 minutes who confirmed everything was fine and the refund was scheduled exactly as shown on my transcript. Saved me days of stress and redial attempts.

Is this service actually worth paying for? I'm on a tight budget waiting for my refund, seems counterintuitive to spend money just to talk to the IRS which should be free.

I had the same question when I first heard about it. The value really depends on your situation. If you're seeing conflicting information or need urgent clarification on a time-sensitive tax issue, spending a small amount to save potentially hours of redial attempts can make sense. For routine status checks though, you're right - just waiting is usually the better option. What Claimyr does is hold your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing when the IRS line is busy.

Does anyone know if the deposit date on transcripts is usually accurate? Last year my refund came a day earlier than what my transcript showed. I'm still waiting for mine to update but seeing your post gives me hope!

Based on my experience over the past few tax seasons: ā¢ The transcript date is the date the IRS sends the payment to your bank ā¢ Some banks process deposits immediately, others hold until the actual date ā¢ Credit unions often release funds as soon as they receive the ACH ā¢ Online banks typically process 1-2 days faster than traditional banks ā¢ If your deposit date falls on a weekend/holiday, you might get it the previous business day

The 846 code date is actually quite reliable. It's when the IRS releases the funds, not necessarily when they hit your account. Most major banks will process within 24 hours of receiving the ACH transfer.

Mine came exactly on date. Not early. Not late. Bank showed pending the day before. Then available on the exact date on transcript. Very precise.

I was in Cycle 02 and had exactly the same experience! My transcript updated at precisely 3:14am (I checked at 3am and nothing, then again at 3:30am and it was there). My DD date is 2/24/2025 as well, and my WMR is also still showing PATH Act message. Last year, my deposit actually came 1 day early - my transcript showed 2/27 but I got the money on 2/26. I'd recommend checking your bank for pending deposits starting on 2/23.

Wait, you were checking your transcript at 3am? š That's some serious dedication to your refund! Though I can't really judge - I've definitely refreshed the WMR page during meetings. The early deposit thing is interesting - I've noticed that pattern too but didn't realize it was so common.

Here's how to fully understand what's happening with your return: 1. First, verify you're truly a Cycle 02 filer by looking at your account transcript - the cycle code will be something like 20240702 (where 02 is your cycle) 2. Next, check for the 846 code with the 2/24 date - this confirms your refund is scheduled 3. Look for any 570/971 codes that haven't been resolved - if they have the same date as your 846 or earlier dates, they're likely resolved 4. The WMR tool updates on a completely different schedule than transcripts, typically overnight between 3-6am EST 5. PATH Act verification is typically completed by mid-February, which aligns with your timeline I'm seeing a lot of Cycle 02 filers getting updates today, so this seems to be a normal batch processing.

Pro tip from someone who's been through many tax seasons: ALWAYS trust your transcript over WMR. The transcript is the actual IRS internal record while WMR is just a simplified status tool that often lags behind. When you see that 846 code with a date, that's your money on the way! The IRS website even says WMR can take up to 72 hours to reflect transcript changes. Congrats on your coming refund!

So if my transcript shows N/A for 2024 but WMR shows received, which one should I trust? I'm starting to worry my return has issues.
