Finally got 846 code on transcript today - federal refund coming next week (filed 3/12)

Just wanted to update everyone who's been waiting like me. Filed on March 12th and got accepted same day. Already received my state refund on March 18th but my federal transcripts were completely empty until today. Just checked and I've finally got an 846 code with a deposit date of April 1st! Been checking the WMR tool and transcripts every morning for weeks. Such a relief to finally see movement. My bars on WMR disappeared last week which had me worried but looks like everything is proceeding normally afterall.

This is pretty standard processing time for the IRS this year. The 846 code means "refund issued" and is the final step before you receive your money. The date associated with the code (April 1st in your case) is when the Treasury will release the funds to your bank. Depending on your bank's processing time, you might see it sooner - sometimes people get it 1-2 days before the official date. For those waiting, remember that transcripts typically update overnight on Thursdays/Fridays. If you filed with credits like EITC or ACTC, there was a mandatory hold until mid-February as well. From the 846 date, it should arrive within 5 business days at most. Also, the WMR bars disappearing is actually normal - it usually happens when your return moves to the next processing stage. Not a bad sign at all!

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! I was freaking out when the bars disappeared but glad to know that's normal. Now just waiting for that deposit to hit 🙏

quick question - if my transcripts still say N/A after 6 weeks, is that a sign i need to call? or still within normal timeframe?

0 coins

After 6 weeks, it could be worth reaching out. There might be an identity verification issue or something else holding up your return. Calling the IRS directly is nearly impossible these days though.

0 coins

I was in that boat last year - N/A for 8 weeks! The only way I got through was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - had an agent call me back within an hour. Turned out they needed to verify my identity and nobody bothered to tell me 🙄

0 coins

Been there! Transcript updates are so satisfying after weeks of nothing. FYI for anyone struggling to make sense of their transcripts - I was completely lost trying to understand all those codes and dates until I found taxr.ai - it scans your transcript and explains everything in plain english. Saved me hours of googling random IRS codes. Really helped me understand why my refund was delayed last month and what was actually happening behind the scenes.

0 coins

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

Oh my god it's AMAZING. Basically you upload your transcript and it breaks down every code and explains what's happening with your return in simple terms. It showed me I had a review code I didn't even notice and predicted my refund date perfectly. Wish I'd found it earlier instead of wasting hours on reddit and youtube trying to figure out what all those numbers meant!

doesnt the IRS website already tell u whats going on tho? why pay for something extra

0 coins

The IRS site just gives you the raw transcript with all those cryptic codes and dates. Taxr actually explains what each code means for YOUR specific situation and helps you understand if there's a problem or if everything's normal. Like having a tax pro look at your transcript but instant. Totally worth it when you're stressing about where your money is!

After 6 weeks of getting nothing but "Your tax return is still being processed" on WMR, I finally got through to a human at the IRS using this app called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They connect you with an IRS agent who actually calls YOU back. Found out my return had been flagged for review because of a math error but nobody bothered to send me a letter! Agent fixed it while I was on the phone and my 846 code showed up 3 days later. Best money I ever spent after trying the regular IRS number for weeks and never getting through.

0 coins

Is this for real? I've been trying to call IRS for 2 weeks and can't get past the automated system 🤬

0 coins

100% real. I was skeptical too but was desperate after 40+ attempts calling the regular number. They have some way to get through the phone system and an actual IRS agent called me back in about 45 minutes. The peace of mind from finally knowing what was happening with my refund was worth every penny.

0 coins

seems sketchy tbh...how do we know this isn't just some scam?

0 coins

I was in the same boat but took a chance on Claimyr last month when my refund was stuck for 8 weeks. It's just a service that navigates the IRS phone tree for you - the actual call is directly with an IRS agent. They called me back in like 30 min when I had been trying for days on my own. Got my issue resolved and refund deposited a week later!

0 coins

Are they even allowed to do that? Like get you ahead in the IRS phone line? Not sure how that works legally?

0 coins

They don't skip the line, they just have software that keeps redialing until they get through to an agent. Then they connect you. It's basically what you'd do manually if you had unlimited time and patience.

Congrats! I'm on day 52 and still nothing. No updates to transcript, WMR still says processing, and can't get through on the phone. Starting to think my return fell into a black hole 😭

0 coins

Have you tried checking your account transcript instead of return transcript? Sometimes updates show there first

0 coins

Yeah, checked both - nothing. Account transcript just shows last year's info. Return transcript still says N/A 😩

0 coins

you probably got selected for review. happened to me last year and didn't get my refund for 6 months 💀

0 coins

Day 45 here and still have N/A on transcript. Getting desperate since I need that money for rent. This system is so broken.

0 coins

I filed 2/14 and still NOTHING. No updates, no letters, no transcript changes. Meanwhile my coworker filed a week after me and got his refund in 14 days. Make it make sense! 🤬

0 coins

The IRS processing system makes absolutely no sense. I swear they just throw darts at a board to decide whose return to process next lol

0 coins

Honestly that's what it feels like! And there's no way to know if there's actually a problem or if you're just in some random slow lane. So frustrating.

0 coins

Had the same issue but turns out I had a code 570 (additional account action pending) that was delaying everything. Didn't know what it meant until I uploaded my transcript to taxr.ai and it explained I had a small math error that was being corrected. Transcript updated 2 days later with an 846 code. Might be worth checking for anyone still waiting!

0 coins

how much does this taxr thing cost? is it worth it?

0 coins

For me it was definitely worth it because I was stressing about why my refund was delayed and couldn't figure out what all the codes meant. It showed me exactly what was happening and saved me from calling the IRS (which is basically impossible these days). My sanity was worth the cost lol

0 coins

cool might check it out, been waiting 7 weeks and just want to know wtf is happening with my money

0 coins

Pro tip: If youre checking the "Where's My Refund" tool, try clearing your browser cache or using a different device. I was getting the generic processing message for weeks, then tried on my phone and suddenly it showed a different status with actual details.

0 coins

Wait that actually worked! Tried on my laptop instead of phone and now I can see its been approved! wtf

0 coins

Yep, their system is glitchy af. Glad it helped!

0 coins

FYI - those cycle codes on your transcript can tell you when your next update will happen. If your cycle code ends in 01-05, you typically update on a weekly schedule (Fridays). If it ends in 20-numbered codes, you're on a daily update schedule. Look for that number in the upper right of your account transcript.

0 coins

the fun part is when u finally get your refund and the irs sends you a letter 2 weeks later saying they need more time to process ur return 😂

0 coins

LMAO this literally happened to me last year! Got my deposit and then got a letter saying they need 60 more days to process. The IRS is truly undefeated in the clown olympics 🤡

0 coins

its like different departments dont talk to each other AT ALL. such a joke

0 coins

What's weird is my transcripts updated yesterday but WMR still says processing. Anyone else have that happen?

0 coins

WMR is always behind the transcripts. If you have an 846 code, your refund is coming regardless of what WMR says.

0 coins

thx that's reassuring! Just seems odd they can't sync their own systems

0 coins

Decided to call the Taxpayer Advocate after waiting 8 weeks with no updates. Spent 3 hours on hold only to be told they can't help unless it's been 21 days past the official processing timeframe, which is apparently 6-8 weeks now, not 21 days like they claim on the website. What a joke.

0 coins

This is why I just broke down and used claimyr.com after seeing it mentioned on here. The IRS phone system is designed to make you give up. Advocate service is just as useless and overwhelmed. Only way I ever got answers was getting a real agent on the phone.

0 coins

congrats! filed on 2/5, accepted 2/6, and still waiting... 😢 checked transcript this morning and still N/A. at this point i dont even care about the money, i just want to know if there's a problem or not!?!

This whole system is such a mess. In what other scenario would it be okay for a company to take your money with zero communication, no timeline, and no way to check status? And we're all just supposed to accept this as normal? The IRS needs a complete overhaul.

0 coins

100% agree. And the worst part is that if YOU are late paying them, there are immediate penalties and interest. But they can sit on your refund for months with zero consequences.

0 coins

They're understaffed and underfunded for years. Not excusing it but that's why it's so bad. They're operating on tech from the 1960s in some cases.

0 coins

I get that but it doesn't excuse the complete lack of communication. A simple "your return is delayed because of X reason" would go a long way. Instead we all sit here guessing and stressing.

I was in the WMR/transcript hell for 11 weeks. Couldn't get through on phones. Finally uploaded my transcript to taxr.ai in desperation and it showed I had a 570 hold code with a CP05 review that wasn't visible on the basic transcript view. Called the specific department number it recommended and got it resolved in one call. They released my refund same day. Sometimes you just need the right information to navigate this maze.

0 coins

I keep seeing this taxr thing mentioned... is it really that helpful? Been waiting 9 weeks and losing my mind

0 coins

Honestly yes. Think of it as having a tax pro instantly analyze your transcript. It tells you if you're on a normal timeline or if there's something actually wrong that needs attention. It saved me from waiting another month or more for sure.

0 coins

I haven't even gotten my 2022 refund yet and y'all talking about 2023 already coming through 😭😭😭

0 coins

HOW??? Have you contacted your congressman? That's what finally got my 2021 refund unstuck last year.

0 coins

Yep tried everything - congressman, taxpayer advocate, called IRS 100+ times. They keep saying it's "in errors" but can't tell me what the error is or when it'll be fixed. Beyond frustrated

0 coins

At this point you need professional help. Either a tax attorney or EA who can pull transcripts and figure out what's happening behind the scenes.

0 coins

If anyone else is still waiting - check if you need to verify your identity. I was waiting for 7 weeks and finally found out I needed to do ID verify, but they never sent me a letter! Did the verification online and got my refund 8 days later.

Filed 2/22, got state refund in a week, federal still says "processing" on WMR. Just checked transcripts after reading this post and I also have an 846 for 3/29! Never got any updates or notifications, it just appeared. The IRS website is a joke.

0 coins

That's pretty much exactly what happened to me! No updates for weeks then suddenly 846. At least we're both getting paid soon!

0 coins

Congratulations on finally getting your 846 code! I'm currently on week 7 of waiting myself - filed 2/28 and accepted same day but transcripts still showing N/A. Your post gives me hope that movement can happen suddenly even after weeks of nothing. Quick question - when you say your transcripts were "completely empty" until today, do you mean they showed N/A for return transcript or that there was literally nothing there? I'm trying to figure out if my situation is normal delay or if something's actually wrong. The WMR tool has been useless - just the generic "still processing" message for over a month now. Really hoping I see some movement soon like you did! April 1st deposit date sounds amazing right about now 🤞
