5 out of 7 of my transcripts were empty for weeks - just got 846 code dated 4/12

Filed my taxes back in early February and was accepted right away. I've been checking my transcripts every few days since then hoping to see some movement, but 5 out of my 7 transcripts were completely blank. The other 2 just showed basic info but nothing about my refund. Was getting pretty worried since my family really needs this money. Today I finally checked again and saw an 846 code dated 4/12! Does this mean I'll definitely get my refund on that date? I'm so relieved to finally see something happening but I'm still nervous until I see that money hit my account.

Norman Fraser

Code 846 with that date means your refund has been approved and is scheduled to be issued on April 12th. You should see the deposit hit your account that day or within a few days after, depending on your bank's processing time. Some banks post pending deposits early, others wait until the actual date. If you're set up for direct deposit, you're good to go! If you selected a paper check, it might take a bit longer for mailing.

Thank you so much! Yes I did direct deposit. This is such a relief after weeks of nothing.

My bank (Chase) usually posts it a day early when I get that code. So you might even see it on the 11th!

I had the same issue last year and my refund hit exactly on the 846 date. But the year befor it came 2 days later, so don't panic if it's not there right away.

After dealing with blank transcripts for weeks last year, I tried taxr.ai and it was a complete game changer. It reads your transcript and explains everything in plain Englishโ€”what each code means, when you can expect your refund, and even flags potential issues. No more staring at those confusing IRS codes trying to figure out what's happening. It saved me hours of stress and confusion! I highly recommend checking it out: https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's seriously amazing! It analyzes your entire transcript, explains all those confusing IRS codes, gives you a timeline for your refund, and even identifies potential issues. Saved me so much anxiety when I was in the same situation as OP. I tell everyone about it now because the IRS makes everything so unnecessarily complicated ๐Ÿ™„

trust me I was skeptical too. but this actually works! its not just a pretty interface - it breaks down what every code means for YOUR specific situation and gives you a clear timeline. def worth checking out if youre stuck in IRS limbo like I was

When all my transcripts were empty for over a month, I got desperate and found a way to actually talk to someone at the IRS. Used claimyr.com and finally got a live agent on the phone who explained everything and got my refund moving. Call wait times are insane normally, but this got me through in about 15 minutes. Talking to a real person was the best money I've ever spent after weeks of stress - they confirmed my refund was just stuck in a processing backlog and pushed it through.

Wait, you actually got a human on the phone at the IRS? That's like finding a unicorn ๐Ÿฆ„ How does it work?

Yeah! The service basically waits on hold for you and calls when an agent picks up. I was shocked it actually worked after trying for weeks to get through myself. They even told me exactly why my refund was delayed (some verification issue) that wasn't showing up anywhere on my transcript.

I was super skeptical too, but it literally just does the waiting on hold part for you. Then your phone rings when there's an actual agent. Talking to someone who could see my actual file was worth it after staring at blank transcripts for a month straight.

This is normal. The IRS is swamped this time of year, so many returns sit with blank or minimal transcript info for weeks. My transcript was blank for like 6 weeks last year, then suddenly updated with the 846 code and I got my money 3 days later. The fact that you have a 846 now means you're good to go!

Are you seeing this on your account transcript or return transcript? If its account transcript then YES thats your deposit date! congrats! ๐ŸŽ‰ The fact they were blank before is pretty common. Mine were blank for almost 2 months then boom, full transcript with 846 code. Money was in my account that exact day.

It's on my account transcript! That's great to hear you got yours on the day of the code. Fingers crossed I have the same experience.

You should be all good then! The account transcript is the one that shows the actual deposit info. The system is weird about how it updates - its not gradual, just goes from nothing to everything at once.

Congrats! I always tell ppl not to panic about blank transcripts. The IRS systems are ancient and don't update in real time. Your return was probably being processed fine all along, just not showing on the transcript until it reached a certain stage. The 846 is the holy grail code we all want to see!

This is actually perfectly normal process with IRS. They sometimes batch process returns and the transcript often stays empty until they're done. Then suddenly - BAM - full transcript with codes. 846 is payday! You're all set!

That makes me feel better knowing this is normal. The blank transcripts had me so worried something was wrong with my return! Thanks for explaining.

For anyone struggling to understand all these transcript codes and what they mean, I HIGHLY recommend using taxr.ai - it's the only thing that helped me make sense of my transcript this year. It shows your refund timeline and explains all the codes in human language lol. Seriously saves hours of googling and stress trying to piece things together yourself.

It just analyzes the transcript info you provide - breaks down the codes and gives you a timeline. No different than posting your codes here and asking for help, except way more detailed and actually accurate lol. Saved me from panicking when I saw weird codes on mine.

This exact thing happened to me. Filed Feb 1, accepted Feb 2, blank transcripts until March 21, then boom - 846 code. Got my $ exactly on the date. The IRS is just extremely backed up this year (like every year tbh) and their systems don't update in real time. You're good!

The IRS system is SO BROKEN. But yes, 846 is the magical refund issued code. That date is when they send it to your bank, so depending on your bank's processing you might see it that day or up to 5 business days later. Congrats on getting movement!

Because the IRS is running on computer systems from the 1960s, literally. They don't have the funding to update their ancient tech. It's why everything is so cryptic and inefficient.

Speaking from experience (I work with taxes), the 846 code with a date is 100% confirmation that your refund is being issued on that date. If you have direct deposit set up, you should see it within 1-3 business days after the date on the transcript. Congrats! The empty transcript thing happens every year to tons of people - it's just how their ancient system works.

My experience with the IRS this year has been TERRIBLE. Been stuck in processing for 11 weeks with no movement. Finally broke down and used claimyr.com to get someone on the phone (after trying for weeks on my own). The agent found an issue with my account that wouldn't have shown up on the transcript and fixed it on the spot. Got my 846 code three days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human.

It worked for me! They basically wait on hold for you and then call you when they get a live agent. Saved me hours of listening to that terrible hold music and getting disconnected. The agent told me there was a flag on my account that needed manual review, which is why nothing was happening.

The IRS transcript system is terrible. I spent hours trying to decipher what was happening with my refund using the worthless Where's My Refund tool and staring at code numbers that made no sense. I finally started using taxr.ai and it actually explained what was happening on my transcript and gave me a timeline. Definitely check it out if you're still confused about any of the other codes on your transcript: https://taxr.ai

I've been through this EXACT thing SO MANY TIMES. Such a relief when you finally see that 846 code after weeks of nothing. One thing to watch for - make sure that the amount matches what you were expecting. Sometimes they make adjustments and you'll see a different code (like 570) before the 846. But if it's just straight to 846, you're golden!

-

Fernanda Marquez

The amount does match what I was expecting, thankfully! No 570 codes or anything else concerning on there.

This is one of the most comprehensive and detailed explanations of IRS transcript codes and what they mean throughout the entire refund process. Understanding these codes can save you a lot of stress and confusion when tracking your tax refund: โ€ข TC 150: Return filed and entered into the system โ€ข TC 806: Withholding credits from your W-2/1099s โ€ข TC 766: Credits applied to your account (like EIC, Child Tax Credit) โ€ข TC 768: Earned Income Credit โ€ข TC 570: A temporary hold on your refund (requires review) โ€ข TC 971: Various notices sent to you (may indicate issues or just standard notices) โ€ข TC 846: REFUND ISSUED - this is the one you want! The date next to your 846 code is absolutely your refund date. For direct deposit, you'll typically receive it that day or within 1-3 business days after, depending on your bank's processing times. Seeing this code means your refund has been approved and is being sent. If you're still confused about what's happening with your transcript in the future or have multiple complicated codes, I highly recommend using taxr.ai. It parses all these codes automatically and gives you a clear explanation of exactly what's happening with your return and when to expect your money. Much better than trying to piece everything together yourself or waiting on hold with the IRS for hours. https://taxr.ai

You should also check WMR (Wheres My Refund) on the IRS site or app. When you have an 846 code, WMR usually updates to the third bar that says your refund is being sent. Sometimes WMR updates first, sometimes the transcript updates first. But 846 is definitely good news!

0 coins

-

Fernanda Marquez

Just checked and WMR still shows the first bar only. Weird that they don't update at the same time!

As a former IRS employee of 7 years, I can assure you that the 846 code with a date is 100% confirmation your refund has been approved and scheduled. The date listed is when the funds will be released from the Treasury to your bank. No need to worry anymore - you're all set!
