Getting a Direct Deposit Date of 4/15 - Anyone else seeing this?

Filed my taxes in early March and got accepted right away. Been waiting on a refund and checking my transcript daily. Yesterday I finally saw some movement with a 971 code and a 570 code which worried me. But today I logged in and now I see a direct deposit date of April 15! Anyone else getting DDD for 4/15? Should I expect my money to hit my account on that date for sure? My transcript says refund issued but Wells Fargo doesn't show anything pending yet.

Hunter Brighton

Yes, a DDD of 4/15 means your refund has been approved and should be released to your bank on that date. The 971 code is just a notice being sent out and the 570 was a temporary hold that's now resolved since you got a DDD. Banks typically take 1-5 business days to process the deposit after the IRS releases it, so you might not see it exactly on the 15th. Wells Fargo specifically tends to hold deposits for at least a day or two. If you don't see it by the 20th, then you should start making calls. Congrats on getting your DDD!

Thanks for the response. This helps ease my mind a bit. Its been so stressful waiting!

Wells Fargo customer here - they held mine for 2 days last year after my DDD, so don't panic if you don't see it right away on the 15th

The 971 could also be for an adjustment notice if the refund amount changed. Did your expected refund amount stay the same OP?

Grace Thomas

Actually it changed! Expected $3,289 but transcript shows $3,112 now. Wondering why...

Hunter Brighton

That explains the 971 - they adjusted your refund and will send a notice explaining why. Usually it's a math correction or missing document. The good news is you're still getting 95% of what you expected!

I spent weeks trying to figure out what was happening with my tax transcript and the codes were driving me crazy. Finally tried taxr.ai and it explained everything clearly - showed me exactly why I had the 971/570 codes and predicted when my DDD would appear. The tool basically reads your transcript and explains it in normal human language instead of IRS code. Saved me so much stress and guesswork. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It analyzes your entire transcript and explains EVERYTHING - shows you when you'll get paid, why there are delays, explains each code, tells you what notices mean, even calculates interest. Seriously a game changer during tax season. I was about to pull my hair out before finding it!

another app promising magical solutions? šŸ™„ how is this different from just googling the codes?

Totally understand the skepticism lol. The difference is it reads YOUR specific situation and timeline. When I googled codes I got generic explanations that didn't help me understand how they all connected or what would happen next. This actually showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and predicted my DDD almost perfectly.

Just had the same thing happen with a 4/15 date. My refund was accepted on March 8th, saw the 570 code last week which freaked me out, then this morning boom - DDD of 4/15! From what I understand its pretty reliable once you get that 846 refund issued code. I got my refund last year exactly on my DDD date (but I use a different bank).

After stressing for weeks about my refund, I finally got through to an actual IRS agent using claimyr.com (a calling service). The agent explained that my 971/570 codes were due to a simple verification issue and released my refund while I was on the phone! Had my DDD three days later. Was worth every penny to not spend hours on hold or getting disconnected.

Nah I get why you'd think that. I was sketchy about it too but after trying to call IRS myself for TWO WEEKS and always getting the 'call volume too high' message I was desperate. It basically holds your place in line and calls you when it gets an agent. Saved me literal hours of my life.

wait they can actually release your refund over the phone? I thought you had to wait for the system to process everything?

0 coins

Depends on the issue. In my case it was just a verification flag that needed to be removed. The agent confirmed my identity and cleared the hold. Not all issues can be fixed instantly but many can if you actually reach a human!

It does the calling for you using their system that keeps trying different IRS numbers and departments until it gets through. Then it calls you and connects you to the agent. Beats me listening to hold music for 3 hours only to get disconnected šŸ¤”

Yep, im in the same boat as u - filed march 2nd, got the 570/971 combo last week and woke up to a DDD of 4/15 today too! Such a relief. Its my understanding that once u c that 846 code with the date, the money is already allocated to be sent to your bank. Now its just waiting for the banks to process it. Some banks release funds early, some right on time, some take a day or two extra.

Have you tried pulling your transcripts to see if there's any indication of why you have the hold? Sometimes there's a simple reason that can be fixed.

yeah transcript just shows the 570 with no explanation. No 971 notice code either which is weird. I think im gonna have to call them and find out whats going on.

I was in the exact same situation - stuck with 570 and no explanation. taxr.ai helped me figure out it was a income verification issue. Worth checking out before spending hours trying to reach someone on the phone.

FYI - if you filed with a tax preparer that takes their fees from your refund, it goes to a third party bank first (like SBTPG or Republic) before coming to your personal account. That adds 1-2 days usually. You can check those bank portals to see if they received it from IRS before it hits your account.

Good point! I did use TurboTax and had fees taken out. Going to check the SBTPG site now.

For anyone still waiting - I learned that the "Where's My Refund" tool on irs.gov is actually LESS accurate than checking your transcript. The tool was saying "still processing" for me even after I had a DDD on my transcript. The transcript is the source of truth.

0 coins

Sophie Duck

This is 100% true. WMR is outdated garbage. Transcripts are updated first and more reliable.

how do you even access the transcript? i tried logging in but it wanted me to verify my identity with ID.me and that process was a nightmare

Yeah the ID.me verification is a pain. You can also request transcripts by mail if you can't get through the online verification, but that takes 5-10 days.

I'm starting to think these DDD dates are based on the last digit of your SSN or something. Everyone I know who filed around the same time and has a SSN ending in 7 like me got the same DDD. Has anyone noticed this pattern?

0 coins

-

Abigail Spencer

SSN ending in 3 here, also got 4/15 DDD. I think it's more related to when your return finished processing than your SSN.

mine ends in 9 with DDD of 4/15 too...dont think its SSN related

The IRS system works on these weird cycles - my tax person explained that most refunds get processed and approved on one of two days of the week (Wed/Thurs), then DDDs are assigned in batches. So you mght see lots of the same DDD dates because they're processing returns in groups.

Previous tax professional here: A few things to note about the DDD date: ā€¢ If you're getting a direct deposit, most banks release the funds within 1-2 business days after receiving them from the IRS ā€¢ If your refund went through a tax preparation company (TurboTax, H&R Block, etc) that deducted their fees from your refund, it will take an additional 1-2 days as it goes through their bank first ā€¢ Some banks (especially online banks and credit unions) release the funds early when they see the pending deposit ā€¢ Traditional banks like Wells Fargo, BofA, etc. typically wait until the actual date or may even hold it for one more day ā€¢ The 846 code with your DDD date is the most reliable indicator - once you see that, your money is definitely coming Hope this helps! April 15th is just around the corner. šŸ‘

This is super helpful info - thanks for sharing! Quick question: if the DDD falls on a weekend, does it usually come the Friday before or Monday after?

0 coins

-

19d

Ella Harper

Great question! If the DDD falls on a weekend, the IRS will actually send it the Friday before. However, some banks still won't process until Monday. Credit unions tend to be better about weekend processing.

I find it absolutely insane that in 2025 we're all still stressing about tax refunds and cryptic IRS codes instead of having a modern, transparent system. Most other countries have this figured out already. The whole US tax system is designed to be needlessly complicated.

If anyone is confused by all the transcript codes, I had NO idea what I was looking at until I tried taxr.ai - completely broke down what every code meant and why my refund was held up. Apparently I had an income verification issue I didn't even know about. The tool showed me exactly what was happening and when I'd likely get my DDD. Super helpful since the IRS website is so vague. https://taxr.ai

I've been trying to understand my transcript for weeks and was about to give up. Just checked out taxr and it literally explained everything in 2 minutes. Why doesn't the IRS make their systems this clear??

Right?? The IRS seems to intentionally make everything confusing. My favorite part was how it explained WHY I was getting each notice instead of just what the codes meant.

I called the IRS yesterday using claimyr.com (they get you through to an agent when the lines are busy) and they confirmed my DDD of 4/15 is correct. The agent said most banks will receive the funds 1-2 days before the DDD but when they release it depends on the bank's policy. Talking to an actual human at the IRS gave me peace of mind.

0 coins

-

Whats the catch with this claimyr thing? Seems too good to be true that they can get through when nobody else can

0 coins

It's basically an automated system that keeps calling different IRS lines until it gets through, then calls you. Saved me hours of frustration and hold music. They do charge for the service but it was worth it to finally get answers.

Norah Quay

is it safe though? do they need your personal info?

0 coins

-

19d

They don't need any tax info. They just need your phone number to call you back once they get an agent on the line. Then you talk directly to the IRS.
