IRS Transcript updated with code 846 - Direct Deposit scheduled for 3/19
Submitted my tax return on March 10 through EasyTaxExpress and just checked my transcript around 3am today. I noticed code 846 has appeared with direct deposit date of 3/19! So relieved after what I went through the past couple years. In 2022 and 2023 I had to go through identity verification in person at an IRS office which delayed everything by months. This year everything went smoothly without any verification required. Just wanted to share some good news for once!

Congratulations on the direct deposit date! Code 846 is the refund issued code, which means your refund has been approved and is scheduled for deposit on the date indicated (3/19). The fact that you didn't have to go through identity verification this year is a big win - those in-person visits can delay refunds by weeks or even months. For anyone else checking their transcripts, here are the common codes you might see: • 150: Tax return filed • 570: Additional account action pending (temporary hold) • 571: Resolved account condition • 766: Credit to your account • 768: Earned Income Credit • 846: Refund issued Checking your transcript is usually the most reliable way to know when your refund will arrive, often more accurate than the Where's My Refund tool.

•This is super helpful! I've been seeing code 570 for three weeks now and was getting nervous. At least I know what it means now.

•How do I even access my transcript? The IRS website is such a pain to navigate 😩

•You need to create an account on IRS.gov and verify your identity. It can be tricky if you don't have certain documents they ask for. Alternatively, you can use taxr.ai which makes reading and understanding your transcript way easier.

•Just looked into that taxr.ai thing you mentioned. MUCH better than the official IRS site. It actually explained what was happening with my refund in plain english instead of cryptic codes!

•Don't forget code 971 - notice issued. That one always freaks me out lol

•My transcript has been stuck at 152 for like 6 weeks now...anyone else dealing with this?

I was in the exact same situation trying to figure out all these weird transcript codes. Was spending hours googling what each number meant and reading contradictory Reddit posts. Eventually my friend told me about taxr.ai and it changed everything. The tool reads your transcript and explains exactly what's happening with your refund in simple English. You can see all processing stages and it predicts when you'll get paid. Saved me from going crazy trying to play detective with my tax transcript! https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does way more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all the codes, dates, and amounts to figure out exactly where you are in the process. It can tell you if you're in review, if there are delays, and estimates when you'll get your refund. It even explained why I had a partial adjustment that I didn't understand. Seriously life changing if you're dealing with IRS issues!

•Just tried this and WOW. Where has this been all my life?? I've been checking my transcript daily for weeks and had no clue what was happening. This tool explained everything in 2 minutes. EVERYONE NEEDS TO USE THIS!!

After spending 6 weeks staring at my transcript trying to figure out why my refund was delayed, I finally found a way to get a human on the phone at the IRS. Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback from an actual IRS agent within 2 hours. The agent explained my refund was held up because of a mismatch with my W2 info but they fixed it right away. Best money I've ever spent after wasting days trying to reach someone!

•Does this actually work? I've been trying to call the IRS for weeks and can never get through 🙄

•Yes! Trust me, I was skeptical too. I tried calling the normal IRS number like 20 times and always got disconnected. This service actually puts you in the callback queue and you get a real agent calling you back. Saved me from having to wait another month for my refund!

•Another IRS calling service? Yeah right. These things never work.

•I get the skepticism. I felt the same way but was desperate enough to try anything. Was shocked when my phone actually rang with an IRS agent on the line. They fixed my issue in like 10 minutes after I'd been waiting for weeks. Talking to an agent got my refund released so fast.

•Just tried it and it worked! Had a callback in about an hour and a half. The agent was able to release my refund that was stuck in processing. Thanks for the recommendation!

Congrats on getting your refund! Mine still says it's processing since I filed on Jan 29... feels like I'm never gonna get my money 😭

anyone know what happens if the DD date passes and nothing hits your account? My 846 shows today as the date but my bank account is still empty 👀

•Sometimes it takes an extra business day to process. I'd give it until tomorrow before panicking. Also check that your bank info was entered correctly on your return.

Good for you! I'm on day 45 of "still processing" hell. Where's My Refund hasn't updated once since I filed on February 1st. The IRS is such a joke.

•Same boat. Filed Jan 25th and still nothing. Called dozens of times and can't get through to anyone. It's ridiculous.

•You should pull your transcript if you haven't already. WMR is useless but transcript will show what's actually happening.

•I tried but couldn't get through the ID verification for the transcript. The IRS website is stuck in 1995 I swear

I've noticed this year seems better than previous years for processing times. Last year I waited 4 months for my refund because of "verification" but this year I got my DD within 3 weeks of filing. Maybe they finally hired enough people?

im so jealous lol. I filed 1/31 and still stuck on "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." No codes on transcript except 570. IRS is holding my money hostage

•Code 570 usually means they're reviewing something on your return. Could be a math error or income verification. If it's been more than 21 days you should call them.

The IRS and their stupid verification procedures are such a headache. Why did they make you verify in person the last two years? Did they say what triggered it?

•They never gave me a straight answer but the agent hinted it was because I had moved to a new state and changed jobs in the same year. Apparently that can trigger their "suspicious activity" flags. Such a pain having to take time off work to go to an IRS office.

•thats so annoying. the government thinks its suspicious when people...checks notes...move for better opportunities?? 🙄

I'm having the opposite experience. Last year my refund came in 2 weeks, this year I'm at 7 weeks and counting with a 570 code. Ugh. Did you claim any credits like EIC or Child Tax Credit? I've heard those are causing delays this year.

Amelia Martinez
•I didn't claim EIC but did claim CTC. But from what I understand, anything with credits is getting additional scrutiny this year because of all the fraud they had with the pandemic credits.

Just an FYI for everyone - code 846 doesn't always mean the money will hit your account exactly on that date. My transcript showed 2/28 but I didn't get my refund until 3/2. Banks sometimes hold the deposit for 1-2 business days.

•You can request a transcript by mail if the online verification isn't working. Takes about 5-10 days to arrive.

Pro tip for everyone: Instead of checking Where's My Refund constantly, the transcript is much more reliable and updates daily (usually around midnight to 3am EST). You can see exactly what's happening instead of that vague "still processing" message.

•this is the way! WMR is trash and only updates once a week at best

How long did it take between filing and seeing the 846 code? I'm on day 35 and still nothing on my transcript except the 150 code showing they received my return.

Amelia Martinez
•It took exactly 19 days from filing to seeing the 846 code. But everyone's timeline is different based on what's on your return and if they need to verify anything.

wait you can check transcripts at 1am?? I thought the system was down overnight for maintenance. Gonna have to try this midnight check trick!

•They do system updates overnight which is why you'll sometimes see new info if you check super early in the morning. It's when all the batch processing happens.

For those of you struggling to get through on the phone to the IRS, I HIGHLY recommend using Claimyr.com. I was in the same situation as OP last year with verification issues and couldn't get through on the phone for weeks. Used Claimyr and had an agent call me back in under an hour. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent. Resolved my issue immediately!

•100% legit. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call myself for 3 weeks straight. They somehow get you into the IRS callback queue and an actual IRS agent calls you. Saved me from waiting another 2 months for my return last year.

•Just tried it and omg it actually worked!! Had an IRS agent call me back in about 45 minutes. They said my return was flagged for review but they cleared it while on the phone with me. Refund should be processed in 7-10 days now. THANK YOU!!!
