This happened to me a few years ago! Turned out my ex-wife had filed before me and used our joint bank account from when we were married. The IRS deposit system got confused and tried to deposit both refunds to the same account, which caused mine to bounce. Had to go through the whole trace process. Check if anyone else might have used your account for their refund?
That's wild! No, it's just my account. No one else would have access or reason to use it.
Pro tip: If you really want to know whats happening with your refund, check your account transcript on the IRS website. It will show you exactly where your return is in processing and when your refund is scheduled. The 846 code is the one to look for - that's your refund issuance code and date.
I second this, but understanding transcript codes is like learning a foreign language š©
This is why I started using taxr.ai last year - it translates all those codes into english! Total game changer for me.
I'm having the exact same issue! Filed Feb 20, got my NY state refund March 8, but federal still says processing. Can't see my transcript either. Starting to get worried since I have bills due soon. Let me know if you get any updates!
I was in the same boat. Filed early March, nothing for weeks. I finally broke down and used taxr.ai to figure out what was going on with my transcript. Turns out there was a small math error that was holding everything up. The tool explained exactly what was happening and predicted I'd get my refund on May 12th - got it May 14th, pretty darn close! Saved me from going insane checking WMR every day.
Honestly after spending 9 weeks stressed out of my mind checking WMR daily and trying to decipher my transcript, it was worth every penny. The peace of mind alone knowing exactly what was happening instead of being in the dark was priceless.
Be careful, could be identity verification. I had to wait 9 weeks then got a letter saying I needed to verify my identity before they'd continue processing. Super annoying. Keep an eye on your mail.
Yes they'll send a letter, but it could take 2 months to arrive š If you call them they can tell you immediately if that's the holdup. I finally got through using claimyr.com after wasting hours on hold myself.

Definitely get thru to a human ASAP!!! I had a similar issue that took 14 months to resolve because I just waited for letters. When I finally got someone on the phone using Claimyr.com they were able to resolve it in ONE CALL. Literally the best money I ever spent - one 20 minute call with a real IRS agent fixed what had been holding up $11k for over a year.

ā¢Yes! The key is getting connected to the right department. When you get through, immediately ask to be transferred to the amended return department. The first agent might say they can't help, but insist on the transfer. That's what worked for me.

ā¢Good luck getting through to TAS right now. They're so backed up they're rejecting cases unless you can prove severe financial hardship. I tried for 2 months and couldn't even get past their phone system.

ā¢Damn really? Things must be worse than when I used them last year. That sucks.
