I recommend pulling ur tax transcript if u can. U can see EXACTLY wats happening with ur return. The IRS has specific codes that show if its being processed, under review, etc. I couldnt figure out why mine was delayed until I saw code 570 on my transcript which meant they were reviewing something. Much more useful than the generic "still processing" message on Where's My Refund.
The codes are super confusing tho. I had no idea what any of them meant when I checked mine
If you're confused by transcript codes, check out taxr.ai - it explains what all the codes mean and actually tells you when to expect your refund based on your specific situation. Just used it last week and it was spot on!
not to freak you out but i had this happen 2 years ago and it turned out someone had filed a fraudulent return using my SSN. definitely check your transcript or call the IRS to make sure everything is ok.
had to file an identity theft affidavit (form 14039) and paper file my return. took almost 9 months to get my refund. not saying this is happening to u but better to check sooner than later!
FWIW I had the same situation, even had the same "we couldn't expedite" message. My transcript finally updated last week (filed 2/1, PATH affected). Hopefully yours updates soon! The system is incredibly frustrating.
After waiting FOREVER with the same issue, I got so fed up I used Claimyr to reach an IRS agent directly. Got a callback in 45 minutes and they explained my return was just sitting in the queue waiting to be processed. Started showing on my transcript the next week. Talking to a real person who could see my actual file was such a relief after weeks of stress. Their number is impossible to get through otherwise.
Sometimes a refund can be delayed even with a deposit date if: 1. You have past due federal or state debts 2. You owe back child support 3. You have outstanding student loans 4. There's a bank account issue Any of these apply to you?
No, don't have any of those issues. My return was pretty straightforward - just W2 income, standard deduction, nothing unusual.
try calling the IRS directly if your concerned... oh wait, you cant because they NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE š¤¬
I found a solution for this! Used claimyr.com to get through to an IRS agent last month. They navigated all the phone menus and got me connected to a real person who finally resolved my issue from 2022. After months of trying to call myself with no luck, I had an actual conversation with the IRS in less than an hour!
For real? might have to try that. been trying to reach them for weeks about my amended return and ready to pull my hair out
FWIW some refunds are being held because of the backlog from the government shutdown threat last year. Not saying that's your situation but just one more possibility. I'm in a similar boat - 2022 return still not processed fully. It's criminal how they treat us.
have you tried contacting your local congressperson's office? sometimes they can help push the IRS on delayed refunds. worth a shot since youve been waiting so long
That's a good idea, hadn't thought of that. Will try on Monday, thanks!

Are you claiming any tax credits like EITC or child tax credit? Those automatically get extra scrutiny and often require verification even if you don't get a letter. The IRS is terrible about actually sending the notices they're supposed to.

ā¢Yes I claimed EITC this year! That might be why. Should I just call them directly then?

ā¢Definitely call them. EITC claims are automatically flagged for additional review and they're supposed to send verification letters, but those often get lost or delayed.

Had this exact issue! I uploaded my transcript to taxr.ai and immediately understood what was going on. Turns out I had a verification hold but never got any letter. The tool explained which forms I needed to submit and how to resolve it. I'm telling everyone about this now because the IRS makes everything so confusing on purpose istg.

ā¢In theory yes, but have you tried calling the IRS lately? 𤣠I spent WEEKS trying to get through. This tool cost less than taking a day off work to sit on hold. And it actually explained things in normal human language instead of IRS code-speak.

ā¢I tried taxr.ai after seeing it mentioned here and wow, it's actually legit. Explained my transcript way better than anything else I found online.
