E-filed March 10th: WMR still showing "processing" with 810 freeze code on transcript after 21-day period
I e-filed my return on March 10th and my 21 day processing period ends tomorrow. When I check Where's My Refund tool, I'm still getting the message that "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available. For more information about processing delays, please see our Refund Frequently Asked Questions." The WMR tool shows: Tax year 2024 Return: Received Refund Approved: ? (question mark) Refund Sent: ? (question mark) There's also a note at the bottom that says "Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day." It also shows my filing status as Single for Tax Year 2024. My transcript is mostly blank except for an 810 code which I've heard might be a freeze code? I definitely don't owe any taxes - I should be getting a refund according to my calculations. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal or should I be concerned? The WMR tool isn't showing any approval or sent status either. I've been checking the IRS2Go app and the website multiple times daily hoping to see a change, but it's been stuck on this message for almost 3 weeks now. I expected to see at least the "approved" status by now since we're at the 21-day mark.

The 810 code is indeed a freeze code, which means the IRS has temporarily stopped processing your return for review. This could be for a variety of reasons - identity verification, income verification, or just random selection. The fact that your transcript is mostly blank except for the 810 code suggests they haven't completed processing yet. Since your 21 days are almost up, I'd recommend calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Be prepared to wait a long time though. Alternatively, you can contact your local Taxpayer Advocate Service if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay. The freeze doesn't necessarily mean you've done anything wrong - it's just the IRS being the IRS.

•Thank you for the explanation! The financial hardship is definitely becoming an issue. How do I contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service?

•You can find your local TAS office by going to the IRS website and searching for Taxpayer Advocate or calling 1-877-777-4778. But honestly, they're swamped too and usually only take the most dire cases.

•Calling the IRS number is a joke. I tried for 2 weeks straight and could never get through. Ended up using claimyr.com and got a call back in about an hour. Saved me so much time and stress!

I was in the exact same position last month. Trying to figure out my transcript was like trying to decode hieroglyphics! After hours of research and guesswork, I stumbled upon taxr.ai and it was a total game changer. It read my transcript and explained everything in plain English - turns out my 810 code was just a verification hold, and it predicted almost the exact date my refund would be released. Instead of endless detective work and guessing, it actually told me what was happening and what to expect. You should definitely check it out at https://taxr.ai - it saved me so much anxiety!

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does WAY more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all the codes, gives you exact explanations for what's happening with your refund, and gives you a timeline prediction. It even caught some issues I wouldn't have noticed and explained what actions I needed to take. Honestly one of the most useful tools I've ever found for tax season!

•OMG I just tried taxr.ai and it's AMAZING! It immediately explained that my 810 code was because of income verification and gave me an estimated timeline. The IRS has been totally useless but this actually HELPED. Everyone dealing with transcript confusion needs to try this!

•Totally secure! It just analyzes the information you upload - and explains everything better than any tax professional I've talked to. Feels like having an IRS insider explain your situation in plain English lol

After dealing with that same processing message for almost a month, I was going insane trying to get through to the IRS. Ended up using claimyr.com to get a callback from an actual IRS agent. Got through to someone in about 45 minutes when I had spent DAYS trying to call myself. Best money I've ever spent considering how much stress it saved me. The agent was able to tell me exactly why my return was held up and when to expect my refund. Turns out there was a simple mismatch they needed to verify, but I never would have known without talking to them directly.

•did this actually work?? i've been trying to call the IRS for weeks 😫

•100% worked. After trying for literally weeks to get through on my own, I got a callback in less than an hour. The agent told me exactly what was happening with my refund and why it was delayed.

•This sounds like exactly what I need right now. Was the process complicated or pretty straightforward?

•Super easy! You just provide your number and which IRS department you need to reach. They handle the endless phone tree and waiting, then call you when they get an agent. Saved me hours of frustration and hold music 🙌

My transcript had the same 810 code for like 5 weeks 🤦♂️ The IRS is such a joke right now. If you've claimed certain credits like EITC or CTC they're doing extra verification this year. I eventually got my refund but it took way longer than the 21 days they claim.

Myles Regis
•No EITC or CTC for me... just a standard return. That makes it even more confusing why they're holding it.

•they're randomly selecting returns for extra scrutiny this year. my brother had a super basic return and still got flagged. the system is broken

Did you check your transcript for any TC 570 codes? Sometimes they show up along with the 810 and indicate an adjustment or issue they're working on. If you see a 570 followed by a 571 later, it means they resolved whatever the issue was.

Go ahead and pick up the phone and call them asap. Don't wait any longer. If it's been 21 days they'll talk to you. Request a taxpayer advocate while you're at it. The 810 code usually means they need to verify something. Could be anything from identity verification to them double checking your W2 amounts. Don't panic but definitely be proactive.

•lol good luck getting through to them. I tried calling for 3 weeks straight, either got hung up on automatically or waited 2+ hours only to have the call drop

I had an 810 code earlier this year. It was removed after about 3 weeks. No letter, no explanation, nothing. Then my refund was processed normally. This seems to be their new standard procedure for a lot of returns. Unless you get a specific letter asking for information, you probably just need to wait it out.

Myles Regis
•That's somewhat reassuring. Did your WMR tool ever show any updates during that time?
0 coins
Ryder Ross
•Nope! WMR just had that generic "still processing" message the entire time. Then suddenly one day it showed approved and my refund came 2 days later. The WMR tool is basically useless.

i was in this same situation but worse! had the 810 freeze for TWO MONTHS. i finally gave up and used taxr.ai to figure out exactly what was going on. turns out there was a simple income verification issue. the tool told me exactly what to do and even predicted when my refund would come - it was within 2 days of their prediction! i've recommended it to everyone i know dealing with irs problems - https://taxr.ai saved my sanity for real

•honestly whatever it costs it's worth it. I spent HOURS trying to decipher those transcript codes and taxr explained everything instantly. it's basically like having an irs insider explain exactly whats happening with your return. not just what the codes mean but what you should actually DO about them.

•Doesn't sound any different than just googling the codes 🤷♂️

•WAY different than googling. Google just gives generic info about each code. taxr.ai actually analyzed my specific situation, saw the pattern of codes, and explained exactly what was happening in MY case. it even caught some issues I completely missed. it's like getting personalized advice from a tax pro who knows all the irs secrets

The 810 code is a freeze that stops any automated release of your refund. The IRS is using it a LOT more this year as part of their fraud prevention. It doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem, just that your return was selected for a manual review by an actual human instead of just their computer system. Unfortunately it means waiting. If you have financial hardship, emphasize that when you call.

same exact thing happened to me. stuck with 810 code for weeks. after trying to call a million times i used claimyr.com and finally got through to an agent. found out they just needed to verify my identity and once i did that my refund was approved within 48 hours. talking to a real person was the only thing that got it resolved!

Bro the IRS is WORTHLESS this year. I've been on 810 code for 58 days now. 58 freaking days! I've called 35 times. I've mailed letters. I've begged. Nothing works. This tax system is completely broken. Last year I got my refund in 8 days. This year? Who knows if I'll ever get it. 🤬

Lurker here, but had to comment because I had the EXACT same situation last month. I also had the 810 code and WMR stuck on processing. Spent hours reading IRS gibberish trying to understand what was happening. Then I found taxr.ai and uploaded my transcript. It instantly told me it was a random review that should clear in 14-21 days, and showed me exactly where in the process my return was. Sure enough, 17 days later my refund was approved, just like they predicted. Saved me so much stress not having to guess what was happening!

Check if your AGI from 2023 matches what you entered when e-filing. That was my issue with a similar freeze. The IRS couldn't verify my identity because I misremembered my AGI from last year. Had to call and verify my identity before they would release the freeze.

Myles Regis
•I double checked that before filing and I'm sure it was correct. But good point - I'll verify again just to be sure.

I finally got thru to the IRS yesterday using claimyr.com after trying on my own for weeks (seriously the regular number is impossible). They actually told me my refund had been approved yesterday morning but WMR hadn't updated yet! So sometimes their systems are just behind. The agent was able to see that my 810 code was released two days ago and I should get my deposit by next week. talking to someone who could actually see my account details was a huge relief.

Have you tried contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service? They can sometimes help if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay. Just google "contact taxpayer advocate service" and your state.
