2024 IRS Refund Stuck on "Received" Status for Over 21 Days - Filed January 27th with Tax Topic 152
I filed my 2024 taxes and was accepted on January 27th. When I check my refund status on the IRS website or IRS2Go app, it's still showing "Return Received" with the message "We have received your tax return and it is being processed." The exact status I'm seeing is: Refund Status Results: - Return: Received ✓ - Refund: Approved ? (not checked) - Sent ? (not checked) And below that is this message: "We have received your tax return and it is being processed. If you filed a complete and accurate tax return, your refund should be issued within 21 days of the received date. However, processing may take longer under certain circumstances. Please check here or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go, to check on your refund status." Then there's a section called "Helpful Information" that shows "Please read the following information related to your tax situation: Tax Topic 152, Refund Information" At the bottom it shows "Your personal tax information" and "Tax Year 2024" I can see this is from the sa.www4.irs.gov website. It's been over 21 days now, and I'm still stuck at the received status - no "Approved" status yet. The bars haven't moved at all from the first check mark. Starting to get worried since we're well past the normal processing timeframe. Anyone else in the same situation or know what's going on? The IRS website just keeps showing the same status and referring me to Tax Topic 152, Refund Information. I've checked multiple times per day and nothing has changed at all.

The IRS "Where's My Refund" tool is showing your return in the initial "Return Received" stage, which is indicated by only the first progress bar being filled. The message confirms they have your 2024 return and it's being processed, along with a reference to Tax Topic 152. The presence of Tax Topic 152 is actually a normal reference that appears for most refund cases - it's not an indicator of problems or delays. What's notable here is that you're still in the "Received" stage after 21 days, but this is increasingly common in recent tax seasons, especially for early filers. The system is showing the standard 21-day processing time message, but as many 2024 returns are subject to additional verification steps, processing times are frequently extending beyond this window. While the "Approved" and "Sent" status bars remain empty (?), this doesn't necessarily indicate an issue. For more accurate status updates, consider checking your IRS transcript instead of relying solely on the WMR tool or IRS2Go app, as transcript updates are typically more detailed and frequent. The website address shown (sa.www4.irs.gov) indicates you're on the official IRS portal, so you're checking in the right place.

•You can access them at irs.gov/transcripts - you'll need to create an ID.me account if you haven't already

Hey, instead of playing detective with WMR and transcripts, try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. It's only $1 and way better than guessing. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

•Yeah I was skeptical at first but it's actually amazing! It found delays in my transcript I didn't even know about and gave me the exact dates to expect movement. Worth every penny fr fr 💯

Pro tip for next year - file in mid-February. Early filers always get caught in the verification delays fr
