2022 Tax Return Stuck in Processing - Single Filer Waiting for $21,432 Refund with No Progress Update

I've been checking my 2022 tax return status constantly and it's starting to feel like it will never come. I'm checking the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool multiple times per day, and it's driving me crazy seeing the same message every time. The status page currently shows: "We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day." My personal tax information shows: Tax Year: 2022 Filing Status: Single Expected refund amount: $22,532.00 The progress bar at the top shows "Return Received" as completed, but "Refund Approved" and "Refund Sent" are still showing question marks. I've been stuck at this stage for what feels like forever. I've even tried using the IRS2Go mobile app like they suggest, but the updates only happen once per day anyway. Is anyone else stuck waiting this long with a "processing" status? Does anyone know what else I can do besides keep checking sa.www4.irs.gov over and over? I'm starting to get really anxious about this refund and wondering if there's something wrong with my return.

The IRS "Where's My Refund" tool indicates your 2022 tax return is in processing status, with a substantial expected refund of $21,432.00. This large refund amount typically triggers additional security and verification procedures by the IRS, which explains the extended processing time. The system shows you filed as Single for tax year 2022. While the tool suggests checking IRS2Go for updates, it's important to note that refund status updates only occur once per day, so checking multiple times daily won't yield new information. The "Received" status without progression to "Approved" or "Refund Sent" for an extended period is a sign your return may need manual review. Given that this return has been pending for a considerable time, you now qualify for assistance from the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS), as they can help with returns that have been delayed beyond normal processing times. You should also request your complete tax transcript, which may provide additional details about any holds or verification requirements on your return that aren't visible in the basic "Where's My Refund" tool.

Call 877-777-4778 for TAS. Pro tip: call right when they open at 7am EST for best chance to get through

Have you tried taxr.ai? It's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and when to expect your refund. Worth the $1 fee tbh - helped me figure out why my return was stuck. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

100% legit. It showed me I had a verification hold I didn't even know about. Fixed it and got my refund 2 weeks later

Something ain't right with that amount. Did you claim EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those usually trigger manual reviews.

Yeah claimed both actually. Didn't know that could cause delays

Definitely contact your local congressman's office! They can usually get things moving. Had to do this for my 2023 return and it worked.
