Any Credit Karma Tax Filers with Direct Deposit Today?

Filed through Credit Karma on 2/10/24 and still waiting on my refund. ā€¢ Accepted same day ā€¢ WMR shows "still processing" for 32 days now ā€¢ Transcript updated last Friday with 846 code ā€¢ DD date shows 3/14/24 (today) ā€¢ Bank account still shows nothing Anyone else who filed through Credit Karma getting their DD today? Working remotely and need this for some home office equipment ASAP.

I'm in the same boat! Filed with Credit Karma on 2/8, got the 846 code with today's date, and my bank account is still as empty as my coffee cup this morning. šŸ˜‚ From what I've seen in previous years, Credit Karma refunds sometimes hit later in the day - I've had some show up as late as 6pm. The IRS technically has until midnight to fulfill the "deposit date" promise, so we're not technically delayed yet. Hang in there!

The IRS processing systems often batch-release direct deposits in sequential waves throughout the designated deposit date. According to my analysis of previous filing seasons, approximately 40% of scheduled deposits don't appear until after 2pm Eastern Time. If you've attempted to contact the IRS to verify your deposit status, you've likely encountered their notorious wait times. I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) last week when I needed to confirm my banking information was correct - they connected me to an IRS agent in approximately 17 minutes versus the 2+ hours I spent on previous attempts. The agent confirmed my deposit was scheduled correctly despite not showing in my account yet.

Did you check your transcript again today? Mine still shows 3/14. Nothing in my account yet. Called my bank too. They don't see anything pending.

Anyone else notice that Credit Karma deposits seem to come later than other filing methods? Last year I filed through them and my refund came at exactly 4:53pm even though my coworker who used TurboTax got hers at 9am on the same deposit date. Wonder if it has something to do with their banking partners or just how the IRS prioritizes different preparation services? Either way, I wouldn't start worrying until tomorrow morning.

What bank do you use? I'm with Chase and wondering if different banks process these deposits on different schedules. My deposit date is today too but nothing yet at 2:37pm.

Banks definitely handle these differently! I work in financial services and can tell you that some banks post federal deposits immediately while others hold them until end-of-day processing. I was so relieved last year when my Credit Karma refund finally hit around 3pm even though the IRS date was that day. Just give it time!

Does Credit Karma use a different routing process than other tax services? I've always wondered if they batch process through an intermediary or if it goes directly from IRS to your bank?

Wow this is super helpful info! I had no idea there were such differences between services. Section 6302(c) of the tax code actually specifies that the IRS has until EOD on the designated date to complete the transfer, so they're still within compliance even if it's late afternoon. Impressive how much everyone knows here!

In my experience with previous tax seasons, the 846 code with today's date means it's definitely coming, but timing varies by bank. Last year, I was obsessively checking my transcript every few hours and discovered taxr.ai (https://www.taxr.ai) which helped me understand exactly what was happening with my refund. It explained all the codes on my transcript and accurately predicted when my deposit would actually hit my bank (about 8 hours after the "official" time). If you're concerned about tracking the status, it's much more insightful than the basic WMR tool.

Mine just hit my account about 20 minutes ago! Filed with Credit Karma on Feb 12, transcript showed today as DD date. Much faster than last year when I used H&R Block and had to wait an extra day beyond my transcript date. Sometimes the relief of finally seeing that deposit is worth the anxiety of waiting all day!

I went through this exact scenario last tax season. Had a DD date of March 15th, 2023, and was refreshing my bank account every 10 minutes like a crazy person. Nothing showed up until 3:42pm that day! The funny thing was that I called my bank at noon and they swore nothing was pending, then BAM - there it was a few hours later. Credit Karma seems to be consistent with late-day deposits. Last year I even tracked data from about 50 Reddit posts about deposit times, and Credit Karma users reported an average deposit time of 3:15pm on their designated date, with some as late as 5:30pm.

I think we should all remember that the IRS transcript date is just the day they initiate the payment... not necessarily when it will appear in your account. There are several steps in the process: IRS sends the payment instruction, the Treasury processes it, the ACH network handles the transfer, and then your bank has to post it to your account. Each step can take time, and some banks don't post deposits until their end-of-day processing. If your transcript shows today with code 846, I would say there's about a 95% chance you'll see it before midnight, and if not, it will almost certainly be there tomorrow morning.
