2024 IRS Tax Refund Delay - Anyone else still waiting? Tips for checking status?
Anyone else still waiting on their 2024 tax refund? It's been weeks and I haven't heard anything. Starting to get worried. Has anyone had any luck checking their status or getting through to the IRS?

Have you tried checking your IRS tax transcript? Sometimes there are transaction codes that can give you a clue about whats going on with your refund.

•No, I haven't. How do I do that? Is it something I can access online?

•Yep! You can get it online through the IRS website. Just google 'IRS Get Transcript' and you'll find the page. You'll need to create an account if you don't have one already.

•Thanks! I'll give that a try. Fingers crossed it gives me some answers 🤞

Ugh, same boat here. Been waiting for over a month now. The 'Where's My Refund' tool is useless - just says it's still being processed. 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate after weeks of trying to get through. It worked for me - got to talk to an actual person at the IRS after like an hour.

•20 bucks tho? Seems steep just to make a phone call.

•I hear ya, but for me it was worth it. Spent way more than that in time and frustration trying to get through on my own. Sometimes you gotta pay for convenience 🤷♂️

Pro tip: If you filed electronically and it's been more than 21 days, or 6 weeks for paper returns, you can actually call the IRS directly. The number is 1-800-829-1040. Be prepared to wait though, their hold times are insane.

•Lol good luck getting through. I tried calling every day for a week and never got past the busy signal. 🤡

•Yeah, it's definitely a test of patience. I've had luck calling right when they open in the morning. Still a wait, but better than midday.

Has anyone else noticed that the delays seem worse this year? I've never had to wait this long before. Wonder if the IRS is understaffed or something.

•I heard they're still dealing with a backlog from the pandemic. Plus all the recent tax law changes probably aren't helping. 😓

Okay, so here's what I've learned after dealing with this for the past few weeks: • If you e-filed, give it at least 21 days before panicking. For paper returns, it's more like 6-8 weeks. • Check the 'Where's My Refund' tool, but don't rely on it entirely. It doesn't always update in real-time. • Look at your tax transcript online. It often has more detailed info than the refund tool. • If you claimed certain credits (like Earned Income Tax Credit), your refund might be held for additional review. • If it's been longer than the standard processing time, you can try calling, but be prepared for long waits. • Sometimes, no news is good news. As long as you don't get a letter saying there's a problem, your return is probably just in the queue. Hang in there, everyone! The system is frustrating, but most people get their refunds eventually.

•Wait, what's a tax transcript and how is it different from the 'Where's My Refund' tool?

•A tax transcript is basically a summary of your tax return info as it appears in the IRS system. It shows things like your reported income, tax payments, and any IRS actions on your account. It's more detailed than the refund tool and can sometimes give you clues about what's happening with your return.

•Bruh, I feel you. But most IRS offices are appointment only now. You can't just walk in anymore. 😔

•Ugh, figures. They really don't want us to get our money, do they? 🙄
