Filed 2023 taxes in April, no IRS update yet. What to do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my 2023 taxes. I filed back in April, but I still haven't heard anything back from the IRS. It's been months, and I'm starting to get worried. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay? I did receive a letter from them, but it didn't really explain much. Any advice on what I should do next or how to check on the status of my return?

Ugh, welcome to the club. I filed in March and I'm still waiting too. The IRS is slower than molasses this year 🐌

Guys, have you tried checking the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes it has updates even when you haven't gotten a letter.

Yeah, I've been checking that thing daily. Still says 'processing'. Starting to think it's just for show lol

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The government should do better.

I get the skepticism, but after waiting for months, it was worth it for me. Got my issue resolved in one call.

How long did you have to wait once the call connected?

Only about 5 minutes. The service did all the waiting beforehand.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check 'Where's My Refund' on IRS.gov 2. If that doesn't help, call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 3. Be prepared with your social security number, filing status, and exact refund amount 4. If you can't get through, try early morning or just before they close 5. If all else fails, contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service Remember, patience is key. The IRS is dealing with millions of returns and they're understaffed. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely try these steps. Have you had success with any of these methods yourself?

Yep, I've used all of these at different times. The Taxpayer Advocate Service was particularly helpful when I had a complex issue last year.

Pro tip: If you owe money, they'll find you real quick. But if they owe you? Suddenly it's slower than my grandma using the internet for the first time 😂

Have you considered that there might be an error on your return? Sometimes that can cause delays. Double-check everything, especially your math and personal info.

I hadn't thought of that... I'll definitely go back and review everything. Thanks for the suggestion!
