No IRS letters received - How to check tax return status?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to check on the status of my tax return but I haven't received any letters from the IRS. I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone been in this situation before? What should I ask when I finally get through to an agent?

I've been there before. Here's what you should do when you get an agent on the line: • Have your Social Security Number and tax return details ready • Clearly explain that you're calling to verify the status of your return • Ask if there are any issues delaying your return • Find out if they need any additional information from you • Get a timeline for when you can expect your return to be processed Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

•This is great advice! I'd add: make sure to write down the name of the agent you speak with and get a reference number for the call if possible.

•Solid tips. I'd also suggest asking if theres any way to expedite the process. Sometimes they can if you explain any financial hardship.

•Same here! It's so frustrating. I've started calling right when they open and that seems to help a little.

•Pro tip: I found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/wkiD-dusWE0

•Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•Yep, I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•I get the skepticism, but when you factor in the time and stress it saves, it was worth it for me. To each their own tho!

Have you tried checking the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes that can give you an update without having to call.

•It's not a joke for those of us who need that money. Some compassion would be nice.

Have you considered reaching out to your local Taxpayer Advocate Service? They can sometimes help if you're having trouble getting info from the IRS directly.

•I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how to contact them?

•Sure! You can find your local office here: https://www.irs.gov/taxpayer-advocate Just be aware they usually only take cases where you're experiencing significant hardship.

Plot twist: what if the reason you haven't gotten any letters is because they lost your return? 😱 Happened to my cousin last year!

•Actually, this isn't as uncommon as you'd think. Always keep copies of EVERYTHING you send to the IRS, just in case.

Anyone else notice how the IRS is lightning fast when you owe them money, but slower than molasses when they owe you? 🙄💅

•Facts! They should have to pay us interest for these delays smh

•They actually do pay interest on late refunds! But it's not much...
